Will Starlight Glimmer become Twilight Sparkles Pupil?
UnknownFry replied to Mesme Rize's topic in MLP:FiM Canon Discussion
So far the signs point to yes. The Season 5 character poster, the book about Starlight, and also the details in the Gameloft game, and even details in the Art of Equestria. Twilight has already taken on a pupil and her name is Sunset Shimmer, and she also has taken to mentoring the CMCs as well with Twilight Time so she is more than ready for such a task. Starlight would be fixated on Twilight because of the differences in ideology, and they clashed over it in the first episode. Also Twilight is also a princess so she would be more prone to draw Starlight's attention than Twilight's friends would and taking her down first would leave the others for the taking. However if Starlight was truly out for revenge she would start with the ponies in Our Town first. However I am content to wait it out and see how the season 5 finale goes before without making much in the way of assumptions as there are a lot of things that could happen with all these time traveling shenanigans, and there may be details about Starlight revealed that makes her more sympathetic as a character as well too.- 41 replies

Scare Master Plot and Characterization Fluttershy is determined to spend Nightmare Night with her friends after being talked into it by Spike while out on some errands to pick up some supplies. Her first several efforts turned out lackluster as it killed the mood of the celebration while making things awkward with her friends, but she refused to call it quits with one last at a great scare. Fluttershy was successful but ultimately realized that she was uncomfortable doing such a thing afterwards as her friends were finally able to respect Fluttershy’s approach to Nightmare Night. Fluttershy was excellent in this episode even if the material explored with her in this episode was covering some old ground in part, but the episode showed what she could do when she really put her mind and effort into it as far as Nightmare Night is concerned. Nice to see Rarity participating in this one with her major contributions being the costumes. Twilight was reasonable supportive even if she was reaching at if for a couple of times, and she did give Fluttershy the idea of being the one to do the scaring instead of waiting to be scared. Applejack had some good moments sweating it out when tried to explain the surprise in the maze. Pinkie Pie per usual displayed her usual love and care when it goes into planning and celebarting parties. Spike actually had a decent moment when he was talking with Fluttershy in Twilight’s castle, even if he did not do a whole lot for the remainder of the episode. Rainbow Dash was skeptical perhaps even to the point of being insensitive at times in regards to Fluttershy and also the Apple family maze, but she soon ate her words. Granny Smith and Big Mac had some minor roles that tied in nicely to plot of the episode as well. Surprised Luna was not included, but I am not too upset at the lack of her presence as the episode worked just fine without her, and the episode did a nice job highlighting the other characters in a Nightmare Night celebration while keeping its focus on Fluttershy. Excellent. 10/10 Animation and Music I loved the atmospheric lighting of Ponyville throughout this episode and it really stood out while capturing the feel of Nightmare Night, and they did an excellent job within Twilight’s castle as well too as far as this aspect is concerned. The costumes were well done with Muffin’s, Rainbow Dash’s, and Twilight’s being the best of the lot, and another touch was the customized candy bags. It was also a nice touch that Twilight tossed some candy at Rainbow Dash in trying to prevent another insensitive remark displaying both concern Fluttershy and annoyance at Rainbow Dash at the same time. I also enjoyed some of the props used here as well including the Granny Smith Skeleton, and also the pit they all fell into it. The background music was appropriate to context of the episode, and added to the ambiance of the episode. 10/10 Voice Acting and Dialogue Voice acting was superb in this one, and it really captured the emotions of the mane 6 as far their reactions of the activities in Nightmare Night were concerned, and the Andrea Libman really did a great job conveying the range of Fluttershy’s emotions running from fear to acceptance of what she really wants. There were some pretty good lines in there well especially concerning Fluttershy’s attempts at throwing an awkward haunted party, and I thought her speech at the end of episode was pretty well done too. 10/10 Overall this episode scores a 30/30 netting a 10 again. Solid story, superb presentation, and excellent characterization makes this episode another winner.

Is Fluttershy the new background pony?
UnknownFry replied to Cleverclover's topic in MLP:FiM Canon Discussion
Not really, and it is rather premature to be having this discussion when there are still six episodes left to air (two of them confirmed to have some focus around Fluttershy.) The lack of screen time or episodes is not a sign that the writers hate a character, and anyone who has actually read comments about the process behind making the show would know this. The staff tells the stories they want to tell and they choose to use the characters that best serve their narrative purposes. Once again total character appearance or screen time does not equate into character focus. Total episode appearance count does not amount to much in the long run too as it does not account for the quality of appearance while counting the quantity. Quality over quantity. She played a major role in The Cutie Map, Make New Friends But Keep Discord, was the main focus in Scare-Master, and is set to co-star with Twilight in The Hooffields and The McColts. So it sounds like Fluttershy is going to wind up with about the same amount of attention as the other five, -
What could be the Species of Cadence's Child/en
UnknownFry replied to Mentis Soliloquy's topic in MLP:FiM Canon Discussion
The one major benefit to the kid being born an alicorn is that it could give the show another chance to delve deeper into alicorn lore. Perhaps it may crush some head canons in the process though. ponies aren't puppies - you don't just have a litter of ponies True, but we are talking about a cartoon show filled with magical talking ponies, and it is not like that their fictitious world operates under the same scientific principles as ours. In all likelihood Cadance and Shining Armor are going to have one kid for now.- 54 replies

Homesick of what? There is nothing in Equestria waiting for her. Sounds like some people need to watch the deleted scenes and audio commentary that goes with for themselves in order to gain proper context. It explains their reasons on why Sunset would be homesick. There is plenty waiting for Sunset back in Equestria. Homesick for equestrian magic working the way she is accustomed to, homesick for Princess Twilight, and also her former teacher Princess Celestia, and whatever family if she has one. There are plenty of things she could be homesick for to make it feasible. However the deleted scenes emphasized she was homesick for Equestrian Magic while she was struggling to prevent it to avoid the appearance of cheating. This likely implies she'll be joining the show after the next (and possibly last) film. The next film might not be the last one as Hasbro has plans to keep Equestria Girls running through and past 2017 if it remains profitable. Odds are pretty good that Equestria Girls could outlast the main show until G5 comes along too at this rate. Actually in their last business quarterly report Hasbro mentioned a desire to make Equestria Girls more of a regular thing instead of an annual deal, so it sounds like some of your assumptions are going to be crushed. Another film won't impact the MLPFIM movie in 2017 since another studio is handling that project. A lot of assumptions are being made here, and the whole Sunset is homesick subplot that was dropped resolved itself as Sunset Shimmer decided to stay with her human friends. If they bring it up again they can use the next movie to resolve without impacting the main show. If they introduce her in the show it will likely be done as a guest character so most of the other assumptions can be chucked out the door as well. This really is making a big deal out of a non-issue. isn't there a rule that you can't have 2 of you in the same world or it has the possibility to tear apart the fabric of reality? EVENTUALLY, ONE of the sunset shimmers is gonna have to go. The two Twilights have met and nothing bad happened, so you can kiss that assumption goodbye and throw it out the window as the franchise will do what it wants to do.

So you're saying that five seasons of mlp were a waste of time since Sunset Shimmer did a lot more in only the movies All I am saying Sunset has merit based on the movies to warrant consideration for possible inclusion in the show albeit a guest role at best. There certainly seems to be some consideration on the matter for the time being, so the idea is not out of the question, but I am of the opinion that her place is best suited to remain in the human world but there is also plenty of stuff to do with her should she decide to visit Equestria. Are you suggesting that Sunset Shimmer should replace the Mane Six because as you said, they never accomplished anything. Not at all, and that is not what I said. The Mane 6 have accomplished a lot in five seasons, and as such there no need for anybody to be replaced. All I am saying is Sunset would make for a nice addition to the Mane 6 should they go that route (as unlikely as it is.), she would be a supplement and not a replacement. Just another friend to the circle of friends. However a fair amount of resources would have to be devoted to exposition in order to include Sunset Shimmer in the first place which is the biggest hold up.

I see three short sighted and bad reasons all of these can be easily addressed but it will take time and effort to address properly as far as the show is concerned as there needs to be elaboration and additional exposition to make it work. 1. It's way too late for a mane seven No it isn't, but the assumption of the mane 7 might be a flawed one in the first place. The staff has been kicking around the idea of Sunset Shimmer being a seventh element and that would be empathy. That said I think Sunset Shimmer would be a guest character rather than a permanent addition so this point would be moot. I see no problem with having her travel across both worlds just as there is no problem for Twilight to do as well on occasion. 2. The mane five do not know her They would get to know her personally through various interactions with her, and they would know a little bit about her from Twilight. Celestia and Twilight know Sunset Shimmer though and that is a good enough of a starting point to work with, and frankly it does not really matter that the other five don't know her. 3. She hasn't earned what the mane six have earned And what is that the Mane 6 have earned exactly? Arguably Sunset Shimmer has accomplished the other five have not done within her three movies, so I would say she has earned a crack at it, Friendship or redemption is not about entitlement or exclusion. And not only has Equestria Girls not been referenced in the show, it's actually been flat-out contradicted as well. Might as well declare the show to be show non-canon as well since it has contradicted itself as well on occasion as well too. Just because the show does not reference the movies does not make it non-canon especially since it has repeated several times that the films are considered to be canon, and yes the films directly reference the events of the show suggesting it is part of the same canon and continuity. One good reason right there to include Sunset Shimmer in an episode or two is to put an end such nonsense by giving the naysayers irrefutable proof. A second good reason is to allow her to return to finally make amends and come to terms with Celestia, but both of these can be addressed in a movie without impacting the show.I don't care if it infuriates some people in the process as I think it would be a price worth paying. One more reason for why she should stay in the human world. She needs to face off against her human counterpart! That is assuming is she has one. However this seems like something they are setting up for Science Twilight to do so the cycle can be complete. Sunset has learned about the magic of friendship, now it is Science Twilight's turn to do the same.

spoiler What is Starlight up to?
UnknownFry replied to Silver Stream.'s topic in MLP:FiM Canon Discussion
I think she is stalking Twilight so she can enact her revenge on Twilight and friends, The synopses for the season five finale suggests she is doing this out of revenge, and she attended Twilight's lecture in that Season 5 animatic, and one of her first efforts will probably be trying to stop the sonic rainboom from occurring preventing the mane 6 from earning their Cutie Marks. As for why Starlight is targeting Twilight specifically? Twilight is the leader of the Mane 6, take her down first and the rest should eventually crumble, and the fact that Twilight is a princess makes a more notable target. I do believe Startlight is going after everyone but she has the biggest ideological difference with Twilight. Of course I believe Starlight's true motives will be revealed in the finale. -
According to the audio comments on the Friendship Games DVD they don't consider Sunset Shimmer an alicorn in regards to the transformation. Conversely Science Twilight is also not considered to be alicorn either. The biggest reason I think that is holding them back from including Equestria Girls into the main show had to do with viewer accessibility reasons. Hasbro wants people to be able to watch the show without having to watch the films in order to understand it. This is why if they are going to do a such thing the show is going to have to take some time and explain a few things instead of having Sunset pop through the portal without any exposition.
-
Ask the people who try to argue that it isn't because it is never brought up or referenced in the main show. I figure a direct connection or crossover with the main the show might help put an end to such thinking. As it is Equestria Girls has been stated to be canon several times already by the staff, and the events of such films are still tied to the events within the show.

If it is going to be Skyla than an alicorn is more than likely, but if it something else than I suppose the other races are fair game as well. There is not enough info to say one way or the other. However I think the gender and race is going to be decided by marketing as Hasbro wants to sell as much toys as possible.- 54 replies

I would be fine with it, and the reaction from the purists would be priceless. More importantly it would put an end to the idea of Equestria Girls not being canon, so the sooner they do it the better. Unite the two franchises as one making it one continuity and one canon. However it would require a considerable amount of time and resources in order to provide enough exposition to make things work, so it would be a challenge should they go that route but not impossible. I think it is a risk worth taking, and a crossover would be a welcome addition. given how sunset has more or less engulfed the series to be about her Actually it seems like Equestria Girls is going to be focusing more on Science Twilight as far as future projects are concerned at this point. The Equestria Girls series has always been about Sunset and Twilight.

Is Twilight Sparkle now eternal?
UnknownFry replied to Chronamut's topic in MLP:FiM Canon Discussion
There is no definite answer to this question, so maybe and maybe not. I doubt the show is concerned with itself on matters like this, and it is unlikely the show will ever reach a point where this becomes relevant to anything. Frankly there is not enough information on alicorns to say one way or the other and all we have so far is speculation and assumptions. -

The ending to Friendship Games pretty much hints at the outcome of the Season 5 finale, and also the character poster for Season 5 has Starlight standing next to Twilight. The Gameloft game hints at a reformation by stating that Starlight learns a valuable lesson in friendship as well. Starlight is more than likely going to be reformed when all is said and done.
