Hi, I'm here because, like you, I consider Luna to be the best princess and she is truly top shelf in my book: I've also recently changed the desktop of my gaming & music/video making PC to this: Original pic here: https://jakobthej.deviantart.com/art/New-Lunar-Republic-Flag-685634237 If I can get some friends to play Battlefield 1 with me, I'm seriously thinking about registering a "New Lunar Republic" platoon with this logo.... It would be funny to see how many non-bronies try to join/comment on how cool the logo is without realizing it's MLP-related.

That's actually one of the OTHER main reasons I never really got into 40K (aside from the whole 40K being the price tag for a reasonable army): I just can't get into any setting where EVERY faction are complete & utter monsters, because then I don't have anyone to root for (although I do kind of like the Orks' general "Eff Dis, we'z all gunna get krumped one way or da odder, so we's might as well 'ave as much fun seein' 'ow many of da odder guyz we can krump first" attitude). I guess that's why, in fan fiction I tend to prefer stories about the Orks or "joke" factions like the Angry Marines (Always Angry! All The Time!) or Reasonable Marines because they inject some desperately needed humor into all the grim darkness....

Personally I'd pick being a pony in Equestria over being a Spess Mehreen in the Warhammer 40K universe: I mean, aside from the 40K in Warhammer 40K being how much you need to spend in order to have a reasonably competitive army, one of the major reasons I was never able to get into the whole setting was because it's just too grimdark (In the grim, dark future of grimdark, there is only grim darkness!) and my life is depressing enough as it is: I'd rather be in the happy colorful land of ponies where friendship is the most powerful force & the cardinal virtues actually have real power, thank you very much.

gaming The Final Fantasy connected Multiverse Theory, is it canon?
DJ_Bonebraker replied to Scavenger Crow's topic in Media Discussion
Considering that Gilgamesh ALSO appears in Final Fantasy XIV, not to mention that Shantotto from XI and Lightning from XIII have appeared in the game, and there's a new raid called "Return to Ivalice" that's coming in the 4.1 patch, I'd say that the "connected multiverse" theory is pretty much confirmed.... -
spoiler Synopsis for Uncommon Bond.
DJ_Bonebraker replied to CastletonSnob's topic in MLP:FiM Canon Discussion
First of all, I'd like to congratulate you on posting this synopsis before TV Tropes (I swear: They are usually WAY ahead of anyplace else when it comes to posting preliminary info). Secondly: I'd heard a few other people posting theories about Twilight's "Crack Theories" being foreshadowing when Celestial Advice came out, and I considered it to be a fairly good probability considering that DHX likes to do that kind of thing (e.g. Rarity dropping hints about future episodes in "The Art of the Dress" or having kites hanging on the wall in Starlight's room a year before it's revealed that she likes kites). I'm also glad that Starlight seems to have finally graduated to being a full-on 7th member of the mane cast as well. Which brings me to my own thoughts on this episode based on the synopsis: I'm looking forward to this, not only because we FINALLY get to see more of Sunburst, but I'm really, really REALLY hoping that we get some more information on Starlight & Sunburst's pasts. I mean there's SO many unanswered questions about what happened between the time Sunburst got his cutie mark & went to Celestia's school, which left Starlight devastated, and when Starlight founded Our Town sometime between Maud Pie and The Cutie Map Part 1... I mean, how/when did Starlight get her cutie mark? What was magic school really like for Sunburst? Did Starlight go straight to her anti-cutie mark philosophy, or did other failed friendships cause her to finally snap & write that "certain manifesto" she learned that duplication spell to copy? Frankly, I'd like to know, and I'm reasonably certain that I'm not the only one who does either. Regardless, I'm really hoping it's another good episode that grows both Sunburst & Starlight as characters. -

I actually not only have the original DOS SimCity 2000 in my DOSbox games folder, but I also have all of the original installation floppy disks floating around somewhere.... As for one of my favorite games from the '90s that I still play sometimes, it's gotta be Raptor: Call of the Shadows. Loved that game.

While I'm only 1 year younger than Randimaxis, I didn't get into gaming too awfully much during the 1980's due to my parents not even letting me or my brother buy a NES or Atari even with our own money, because "those stupid video games will rot your brains!" They finally relented a bit around 1991 when they finally let us get an old Atari 2600 (I was a beast at Pac-Man & Asteroids), and I used all the money I'd saved up to that point to buy a 386 PC in the summer of 1994, between my sophomore & Junior years of high school, mainly due to the fact that I needed a computer for doing all the reports I needed to do for school. Conveniently, it also let me get into all sorts of PC games, like the original Duke Nukem and Duke Nukem II, Raptor: Call of the Shadows, Wolfenstein 3d, DooM, etc. As a matter of fact, Wolfenstein 3d and DooM were the first games I seriously modded, and I still have the modded versions of those games to this day (I also still have my full copy of Raptor: Call of the Shadows that I occasionally fire up DOSbox to play). I even discovered that I still have the custom intro & credits reel animations I made for my "Funkystein 3d" mod for Wolfenstein 3d. I even uploaded them to my YouTube channel for posteriority: I know this might not look that good, but keep in mind this was all created between October 1995 & February 1996 (so well over 21 years ago) on a computer with a 386 20 MHz processor, 2 MB of system memory, basic on-board VGA video card, 8-bit SoundBlaster sound card and an 80 MB Hard drive. I mean it's practically a miracle it turned out as well as it did.....

The main reason I'm single is because my ex-wife was all like this while we were dating & just after the wedding: But then about 3 months after we got married she went all like this: And even if I could finalize the divorce tomorrow, I'm too busy trying to get my own life back together & dealing with my mom dying from cancer to even think about getting into any kind of relationship in the near future....

Speaking as a 6-year Navy veteran who worked night shift before that, I can generally fall asleep anytime & anywhere if I'm tired. Sometimes, if I'm upset or have a lot on my mind, I might have trouble making myself go to bed and/or not be able to get to sleep for several hours, but otherwise, I'm usually out in 30 min or less. Once asleep, no sounds other than my alarm clock, certain types of fireworks or anything that sounds like a General Quarters alarm or Bosun's Pipe can wake my ass up, but if anyone touches me, I'm instantly awake (this includes my cats who sometimes like to wake me up in the middle of the night by jumping on top of me). As for dreams, I usually don't have too many that I can actually recall, aside from strange/stressful ones. The most recent one of those was a result of playing Battlefield 1 on the 4th of July & the neighbors setting off those fireworks that sound like rapid gunfire... Had a nightmare about defending a section of trenchline in WWI by myself with a BAR 1918 and having to hold of an entire regiment of enemy soldiers....

To answer your undoubtedly rhetorical question, no there isn't a style that Rarity can't completely & utterly rock. That's one of the things I like about her: She's not the stereotypical fashionista who is only interested in high-class fashions & styles, but can find the beauty & style in ALL forms of expression, and as somewhat of an unconventional fashionista myself, I can definitely appreciate that. And I'm really loving all these pics of !Punk! Rarity. I kinda hope we get to see it again sometime in the show.

least favorite thing about your sex/gender
DJ_Bonebraker replied to Zyrael's topic in General Discussion
As someone who is assigned male at birth, but on the intersex spectrum (more on that in a bit) and bi-gender, I have to say that even when I'm in guy-mode, I hate the fact that I'm supposed to be this muscle-bound Neanderthal that goes around leering & hooting at anything that's the opposite sex and/or is completely obsessed with sports (and the pointless sports team rivalry drama that goes with it) as well as over-powered, fuel inefficient automobiles, etc. I'm not into any of that crap, and ever since I finally came out, I'm SO done with even pretending to care or otherwise fit in with that general loutish expectation. I also agree 120% with everyone who said about facial hair: I'm fairly fortunate due to my being genetically/hormonally intersex (depending on whether my apparent lack of testosterone compared to the male norm is a result of low production due to being XXY or my body's mild insensitivity to it), so I can only grow a scruffy goatee along the lines of Shaggy from Scooby-Doo, but I still HATE it, and it is the biggest driver of my gender dysphoria when I'm in girl-mode, mainly due to having dark hair so that I can still see a bit of a "5 o'clock shadow" no matter how close I shave. As a matter of fact, one of the few transition surgeries I'm 100% going to do whenever I can afford it is to undergo electrolysis facial hair removal & never have to deal with it ever again! Now on to the other side of things: This! Again, despite being assigned male at birth, I've determined through research fairly recently that I either have Klienfelter's syndrome, which is having XXY chromosomes instead of XX or XY OR I have Mild Androgen Insensitivity Disorder (I'd need some expensive medical tests to determine which), but they both have almost identical symptoms, including appearing to be "normal" males at birth but developing a more feminine build later in life, typical female body hair pattern, relative lack of facial hair, and a few other things I'm not going to go into here. In my case (and I've found, a number of other cases of people with either of the above conditions who identify as transgender), one of the additional symptoms is that I, for lack of a better term, have a period: No bleeding (for obvious reasons), but I do have some bloating & during my "time of the month" (the week around a New Moon), I turn into a moody, easily-triggered emotional train-wreak, and I even searched back at least 12 years to forums that I used to frequent and found that in every case where I'd been either temp-banned or given warnings was during That Time Of The Month... And I agree with those who were assigned female at birth: It really, really sucks, even without the additional suckage of having cramps & bleeding. And even when I'm in guy mode, I also dislike even having my female-typical body hair, and I constantly shave/wax to get rid of it, so yay. -
Same here: I initially thought that the "40K" was supposed to be the year the game was set, but it turned out that's how much money you needed to buy enough miniatures to have a competitive army. Seriously, though, those miniatures make LEGO look cheap, however I do have the entire original Dawn of War (including Winter Assault & Soulstorm). I even created a custom Princess Peach order for the Sisters of Battle in Soulstorm (Sisters of Battle don't get near enough love, IMO):

Christian bronies: meet, greet, and mingle!
DJ_Bonebraker replied to Zach TheDane's topic in General Discussion
@SpookySpoop As an old fart aged 39, I'll say this: I agree 120% with what your friend told you, particularly considering the background you're coming from: I may have come to my beliefs at a fairly early age (13), but that was partially due to the fact that, as I pointed out in the "Are you Religious?" thread, for most of my childhood my parents were essentially anti-religious theists (my dad's exact quote about his views on religion, which both his brothers still share, is that all the different religions in the world were different facets of the same Creator, but were mostly just used by greedy/power hungry dictators as an excuse to kill and conquer), so I got a lot of that exploring out of the way fairly early, and even in the end, didn't make my decision lightly, and neither should you. This kind of thing is something that should be carefully considered, not rushed into, particularly since you're just starting out on your own path in life.- 3,320 replies

S07:E19 - It Isn't the Mane Thing About You
DJ_Bonebraker replied to Jeric's topic in Season 7 Discussion
Like many others, I wasn't expecting much from this episode, but was very pleasantly surprised. Overall good message, not to mention all the neat little background details (going to have to watch this one a few times to catch them all) plus all the call-backs to earlier episodes. I also wasn't really expecting Starlight to show up in this episode, but really liked how they had her interact with the rest of the Mane 6 and Rarity in a more natural fashion (not to mention the way the show seems to be developing her friendship with Twilight and how they play off one another), which of course gives this lovely little gem that really cracked me up: Zecora: "There's no magical cure to hasten us through it, unless you went backward in time to undo it." *Everyone in the room immediately looks at Starlight* Starlight: "Uh-uh! I think we can both say that's not a good option!" Anyways, I LOVED Rarity's punk look, and once I get back in the groove of drawing, I might have to do a pic of About Time Twilight, Apocalypse Dash from the Sombra Timeline & Punk Rarity from this episode all together. -
gaming Has anyone played the Age of Empires series?
DJ_Bonebraker replied to ZethaPonderer's topic in Media Discussion
I used to play Age of Empires II all the freaking time when I was in the Navy. In fact, I actually created a Random Map Script called "Endless Forest" that was inspired by a custom map my one friend made called "Woodland Wars". It is essentially Dark Forest turned up to 11 with scattered buildings (some pretty useful some not so much) and ruins in the various small clearings throughout the dense forests that the first player to discover them could capture. I even had 5 different modes for this map based on Mesoamerica, Scandanavia, the Middle East, Europe & Asia. Last time I checked this random map was still the most popular as well as one of the top-rated random map scripts on the Age of Empires II customization section of Heaven Games with over 11K downloads. More recently, though, I've tended to play Age of Empires III (and I'm still trying to figure out what happened to my copy of the Warchiefs expansion so I can get that re-installed on my current system), not just because I really like its visuals & gameplay, but also because the time period it covers (1500 ~ 1880) is, IMO, one of the more interesting periods of history (been working on leveling up my Dutch home city on my most recent reinstall). -
I'm not super obsessed with cars, but I do really like vintage automobiles, particularly from the 1920's - early 1950's. Those cars had a certain style that most modern cars just seem to lack (although Mini Coopers & certain BMW products have managed to generally capture that Art-Deco look pretty well). As a matter of fact, one of my ultimate goals is to get and/or fix up an old 1940-something vehicle & use it as my weekend road trip car.

Christian bronies: meet, greet, and mingle!
DJ_Bonebraker replied to Zach TheDane's topic in General Discussion
This is what I was leaning towards even before I finally made peace with my identity: After witnessing all the hate & vileness directed towards certain groups by some so-called Christians, I figure that, on the Day of Judgement, I'd rather have to answer for being too kind & loving than being too judgemental & driving others away from Christ... Anyways, there's something I wanted to say earlier, but didn't want to make my previous Wall o' Text™ longer than it already was: One of the things that I've noticed with My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic is how, not only do a lot of the friendship lessons & such jive well with Christian principles, but the Elements of Harmony also work pretty well for simplified versions of the Fruits of the Spirit/cardinal virtues: Laughter (Pinkie) = Joy/Hope Honesty (Applejack) = Truth Kindness (Fluttershy) = Gentleness/Meekness Generosity (Rarity) = Charity Loyalty (Rainbow Dash) = Steadfastness Friendship (Twilight Sparkle), the greatest of the Elements of Harmony = Agape Love, the greatest of the Fruits of the Spirit. Also, the entire season 4 finale had a LOT of parallels to the Easter story, especially how Twilight was willing to sacrifice everything to save even the one who betrayed her, and how that sacrifice ended up being what was needed to ultimately defeat the enemy.- 3,320 replies

I really do hope that the building it's in is the re-built Castle of the Two Sisters, because one of the things that has been kind of bothering me since the end of season 4 is how they built up this whole thing about how everyone was working to re-build Celestia & Luna's old castle, then they COMPLETELY drop it when Twilight gets her swanky new rainbow crystal tree castle during the finale, so it would be awesome if they re-visit that, but that's just me.
