  1. I'm disappointed in G5; it is meant to be a sequel to Friendship is Magic but doesn't seriously try to be true to the lore of the earlier series. On the other hoof, the show is definitely not aimed at me. It is very much intended for little girls who aren't going to care for the inconsistencies and aren't looking for the (relatively) more complex storytelling of FiM.
  2. Tokyo's GInza district. I was able to spend a day in the Ginza district years ago when I was deployed to Japan's Yokota Air Base for a joint USAF/JASDAF exercise. It was a lot of fun, though I didn't have nearly enough time (or money!) to take full advantage of it. Actually, there are several other tourist destinations in Japan that I could recommend such as Sapporo for their Cherry Blossom Festival.
  3. We have three ongoing mysteries in Tell Your Tail that have been brought up in Season 2: 1) Allura and her brother (technically from the end of Make Your Mark); 2) Skyros; 3) What happened to Sunny's mother? That last might even be connected to Skyros.
  4. Taken from The Compendium of Equestria (for Tails of Equestria - The Storytelling Game): Friendship Express Journey Information (departing from Canterlot) Destination / Ticket Price (per traveler) / Average Travel Time Ponyville / 5 bits / 30 minutes Hollow Shades / 10 bits / 40 minutes Appleoosa / 15 bits / 1 hour Fillydelphia / 20 bits / 1 hour Baltimare / 20 bits / 1 hour 10 minutes Dodge City / 20 bits / 1 hour 20 minutes Las Pegasus / 25 bits / 1 hour 30 minutes Manehatten / 20 bits / 1 hour 30 minutes Smokey Mountains / 25 bits / 1 hour 40 minutes Vanhoover / 20 bits / 1 hour 45 minutes Frozen North / 25 bits / 2 hours 30 minutes Crystal Empire / 25 bits / 2 hours 45 minutes Farthest Reaches / 30 bits / 3 hours Rainbow Falls / 30 bits / 3 hours 15 minutes Griffonstone Station* / 40 bits / 4 hours * Customer Notice: Due to infrastructural restraints, Griffonstone Station is not in Griffonstone itself. Customers traveling to Griffonstone should be prepared for a 3-4 hour hike preceding arrival at their final destination. Thank you. NOTE: I'm not sure how canonically we should take these travel times; a lot of them feel to me like they're too short. But maybe that's because Equestria is actually much smaller than North America? The only one for which we might have confirmation within the show is probably between Canterlot and Ponyville (I'll have to look into that).
  5. Greetings! I'll admit that RariJack is a cute ship.
  6. The worst movie I've ever seen in a theater might be The Curse (1987), based on "The Colour Out of Space" by H.P. Lovecraft. I saw it with some friends and I'm surprised that we all didn't just walk out on it.
  7. Robert E. Howard should probably be regarded as the father of modern Swords & Sorcery fantasy. C.S. Lewis' Narnia was a very different kind of fantasy, a precursor (along with The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and others) to the Isekai genre infused with a heavy dose of allegory. And J.R.R. Tolkien basically invented modern high fantasy.
  8. Nice! I discovered ElfQuest back in the early days of the comic, also around the time I found Cerebus the Aardvark.
  9. Do you have a favorite hobby or interest? A tabletop gamer might have a dice set as a cutie mark. A filly in FiM got bones as her cutie mark and she found she had a talent for archaeology. My Captain Fetlock OC has a Jolly Roger (skull & crossbones) cutie mark that represents (for him) swashbuckling and his family heritage.
  10. So...The Canterbury Tales on an alien world?
  11. Admittedly, Spike as a younger, adopted brother would have been more fair to the character. In-universe, we can explain it by Human Twilight's Spike being a dog.
  12. You're right, the rules for Tails of Equestria are more simple but that makes it a very easy game for beginners and younger players to learn. Personally, I think it plays much like a streamlined and kid-friendly version of Savage Worlds. It's worth noting that there's home-brewed rules out there for Fallout Equestria using ToE.
  13. Tails of Equestria (River Horse Games) is also quite good and still in print! The last time I checked all of the adventure modules and expansions were still available from River Horse.
  14. Tell Your Tale has had a story that's a little like this but on a much smaller scale with a version of the Rainbow Factory. I wonder whether all the ponies will be able to walk on clouds or it will only be the Pegasus ponies?
  15. Yoko Kanno (Macross Plus; Ghost in the Shell: Stand-Alone Compex; Cowboy Bebop). Joe Hisaishi (many Studio Ghibli films).
  16. Thestrals are those cadaverous winged horse creatures in the Harry Potter series. Some fans have co-opted the name for Bat ponies.
  17. I don't think Warners or eve Rowling would bother with fanfics, but it might be different if Hasbro tries to adopt the name Thestral.
  18. Maybe, maybe not. I guess the episodes are still being shown on weekdays.
  19. Not entirely, the Spring special with the yacht is airing this very morning.
  20. Fair enough! As for digits, I just like them for practical reasons, and to set your creatures apart from Equestrian ponies. But you'll do whatever you want; it's just an idea.
  21. You should check out Fetlock's inspiration, Space Pirate Captain Harlock, especially Harlock's origin movie Arcadia of My Youth (a.k.a. My Youth in Arcadia). In the movie we find out why Harlock wears an eye patch; it's connected to his tragic backstory.
  22. Thanks! I kinda wondered what you'd do if you let your imagination run wild, but I do like that you gave Fetlock some battle damage! At least you didn't give him an eye patch! That might have been too on-the-nose.
  23. Possibly, but who knows? Secrets of Starlight came out last November, just in time for holiday shopping, and toys connected to the special could have been in development early enough to be out right then. But it's many months later and still nothing! What we should be expecting from this year's Toy Fair is a Boardtrot playset and maybe a Destiny Seapony figure at bare minimum. EDIT: At least something new is coming out. New Pony Toys Appear - Izzy Rainbow Styles and Tell Your Tale Pony Wave.
  24. Given the cancellation of Make Your Mark, I don't think the plight of MLP animation is that bad yet. The franchise is, as well, still being supported by comics and children's books. The more alarming development, as I see it, is the lack of new MLP toys from Hasbro. It's especially notable that there were no Secrets of Starlight toys.
