music Why do people HATE Skrillex?

I've seen a huge amount of hate towards the EDM musical artist, Skrillex.
He isn't just hated for his music, but him as a person as well.
When interviewed to respond to haters he said, "I'm nice to everybody and I like people."

To be honest, I love Skrillex's music.

So what's your thoughts on Skrillex?

I don't know why people hate Skrillex. His stuff is amazing. Besides, he is the father of dubstep.

He's one of the posterboys of a movement in music that a lot of people dislike, using harsh aggro synth lines (ironically inspired by metal music) in dubstep. The funny thing is, he isn't even doing things in the style that got him infamous much anymore. He's become more of a pseudo trap/moombah producer as of late. People just don't like doing research into things they don't like, so they pick one or two bandwagon things and hop on in.

The reason people don't like Skrillex is that he and other people label him as a dubstep artist while what he does is not dubstep, it's brostep and since he is mainstream people who enjoy dubstep feel like their genre is being misrepresented

As an avid metal listener, I can attest to this. There's a lot of structural likeness in how dubstep and most harsh electronic genres handle some of their lines...

Still not liking it though, the selection of sounds is almost always unnapealing to me, even if the writing itself is not half bad sometimes cx

@, Hi, just letting you know that this thread has been moved to the Media Discussion subforum and has been given a Music tag. Thanks! :)

Personally, I don't hate Skrillex as I know so little about him. I just don't particularly care for his music.

He started the whole dubstep thing and the trend where people shave half their heads while wearing fake glasses and plaid.

*shudders*

That's my reason, anyways.

If I wanted to experience his music, I'd scrape a fork on a plate. I think that'd be more enjoyable, actually.

He's also a troll to bronies, so there's that.

I don't hate Skrillex. I think people who grew up on old school rock music will argue that a guitar takes time and skill to learn and that dubstep artists only have to use their computers to make their music and it requires little skill or talent. Really, I want to ask these types to use Fruity Loops. It's not easy to make good music in a music program. It's not that programs like FL are unintuitive or anything like that. It's just that it does take skill and talent to use these things. Just because one uses a computer to make music, it isn't any easier. I tried it before and never could make anything of it.

I did grow up on old school rock and roll myself. I love 60s and 70s rock. I used to hate dubstep too. Until I tried using FL. Then I kinda gained an appreciation for it. It is not easy to do.

I also think it's because of the way he dresses. Of course, I'm sure if he had a clean haircut and wore a really nice business tux when he performed, people would hate nice tuxedos because Skrillex performs in a tuxedo.

Personally I don't care for his music but most people I know hate him just because or just because they hate the dubstep genre. He's okay but I have heard some things about him but heck knows if they true. People hating him just because or hating the music basically.

I just don't especially care for his music, but then, I'm a lover of J.S. Bach and instrumental jazz.  Which are...  Probably about as far from what Skrillex does as it gets lol.  Don't know much of anything about him as a person, so I've no reason to dislike him personally.  If people enjoy his work, people enjoy his work; music / its appreciation is highly subjective, I'd say.  You either like something or you don't.

I guess is because some people don't like dubstep(including things like brostep)?I dunno.I have a pretty bipolar music taste, and I like dubstep honestly. And not everybody who hates him hates/dislike dubstep,I saw people who do despise the fact they like other dubstep artists,is more a personal taste(for example I love rock music, specially heavy metal, but that doesnt mean I like all artists.).I don't get the personal hate though, like sure, hate the music...but you know, don't judge him by that.Judge musicians as persons by their personality and not just because you don't like the music they do,I don't find sense in that logic at all,but that's just me.

And don't get me started on people who send death threads because you listen to it/you don't(not just dubstep, but any genre in general.I mean really,do somebody deserve to die just because they don't listen/they listen to something?Pretty much remind me of how some bronies will send you dead threads if you don't like/watch the show,or if you like/don't like some characters :eww: )

The father of dubstep? Come on! Do you know where dubstep originated? In south London, UK! Skrillex's music is about as far removed from original dubstep as it's possible to go!

I preferably alternate what I listen to between dubstep/ house/electro and rock plus some brony artists as well. if it is dubstep I listen two it. I don't often listen to skrillex but when I do I usually listen to songs that have a good sense of rythem. I don't hate the artist nor do I love him but I do enjoy the music... I guess you just have to have the ear for music that skrillex produces :derp:

I feel that Skrillex isn't a Dubstep artist, but leaning towards Electronica with agressive Techno influences. He also has a lot of random voices...it creeps me out. To me, people like Tut Tut Child, Droptek, Pegboard Nerds, and some of Tristam's songs are pure Dubstep. And please don't call Skrillex "The father of Dubstep", and I'm sure Skrillex is a great person as humans go, but he's no Dubstep artist.

People hate him because he's popular, as long as there's a mass that loves him there will be a mass that hates him. Also some people believe he didn't deserve his fame.

I on the other hand, hate his music. I don't know since when does a bunch of violent sounds put together with the same formula over and over again count as music, but it obviously became the norm nowadays. And if you really need good violent music take something like this:

Even though I usually like the more subtle kinds of dubstep, there are a few Skrillex songs I can remember listening to and really enjoying.

People probably hate him just because dubstep is usually an infamous genre of music, and they assume that they should send all their flame toward his way, since he's the one who pretty much started it off this big.

I don't mean to go crazy about correction and such, but dubstep began around the 1990's and Skrillex was born in 1988. He'd probably be better known as the father of brostep (the genre of music he creates), which came popular around 2011.

The difference is the harshness of the song. Brostep is more like "in your face and chaotic" and dubstep is more "chilled and orderly," so some people might hate him due to the fact that it just sounds like a bunch of electronic appliances making noise.

Personally, I am not a fan of his music, but I will listen to some of it.

**Edit** I just noticed some repetitiveness in my comment based off of what previous people have said. I am sorry if I am regurgitating some already stated facts.

I could just say "Because he's crap" and leave it at that, but I guess I'll elaborate a bit more. I hate most dance music, especially electronic. I won't deny that his stuff takes talent, but I will deny that there is any artistic value in what he makes.
