What subcultures do you think children should avoid?

If this were in another forum, other bronies would rage like a bushfire: but you are not afraid to say such a wise statement. I vehemently also agree with you: I also believe that my kids should not be exposed to such a thing, or people might treat them like freaks.

I congratulate you.

I think children should avoid must subcultures until they have a firm grasp on the main stream, and are fully aware of what consequences their choices have. I'd personally have children avoid sub cultures, as most lack the ability to successfully handle the normal culture, let alone sub divisions of it.

of course that is never going to happen, so as a secondary I'd promote a Darwinist approach, and just allow them to pick what they want, and if it ruins them it ruins them.

This should be pretty self explanatory...anything for "adults only" of course.

This probably goes without saying, but they should most definitely avoid any subculture that has to do with drugs/alcohol abuse; children are very easy to influence, and drugs/alcohol are among the last things you should want a child invested in. Not including pharmaceutical drugs, obviously.

Are violent street gangs considered subcultures? If so,then I highly recommend to stay away from these sort of things.

Someone always ends up dead.

I like Star Wars, but I would recommend children to avoid Star Wars subculture, it's always been an extremely toxic fandom, and now even more so.

Nothing. It should be of no one other's business what another person enjoys.

I can understand some cultures have some iffy momements, but we shouldn't make them stay away. Kids shouldn't be forced to live in a bubble their entire lives, they'll find it eventually, just as you and I have. It would serve better purpose to explain to your kid if they see something wrong.

I've seen children getting bullied and made fun of behind their backs by older people within various fandoms so my opinion would be that they'd be better off without fandoms in general. Or at least those that include the kind of weird adults who continuously make the children of the fandom feel bad. Though it's probably impossible to determine which fandoms have that going on so this post doesn't actually serve any kind of purpose.

Let's stir this pot.

Religion. Yes, organized spiritual belief is a subculture.

1000s of differing spiritual ideologies telling you they are right while everyone else is wrong and going to be punished, promising a bountiful eternity, as long as you follow their rules.

Someone who believes that some cosmic entity is going to punish/reward them for certain behaviors is not going to be taken seriously in this age of logic. The mere incositencies in what's accepted and what's frowned upon brings to question if any of these religions are the 'true way of god(s)'.

In addition to that, forsaking people who don't fit your criteria, or worse, mistreating them because your spiritual creed permits it, will garner you some enemies.

Plus, there isn't really any evidence or rational thought to promote one ideology as being more right and wrong than the other, let alone why such tenants are followed.

"Why must we follow these commands and live this life style or why must we judge others by not doing so, even if we believe in the same diety(s)?" the answers are usually:

-because this holy scripture said so.

-because this anointed holy person says so.

-because my family and community says so.

Rarely is there any objective stance taken on why one faith or variant or a faith is more sensible or logical or practical to follow than another.

And kids exposed to this go down one of two paths: reject faith as the grow into adulthood, seeing no reason to remain other than because someone tells them to, or they reaffirm their devotion without question, in which they'll get critisism for blindly following orders, and rejecting expirences and ideas because their faith demands it.

Am I saying don't consider taking a spiritual approach at all? No. As an adult, you can think more critically, have the option to take in more expirences. Have the liberty to choose what to believe. Kids don't get that. They're told to believe, not why.

I never considered Call of Duty to have a subculture. You shoot people, drink mountain dew and eat Doritos. I've never owned any of the games, mostly played zombies with friends and relatives. No one ever talked about the storymode part of it to me. I never hear about discussions beyond dislike for futuristic stuff or whether or not it's better than Battlefield. I guess there is a modding community, and I used to watch Minnesota Burns, a guy who trolled modders and hackers, so that's a thing. I don't know.

I think the problem with newer subcultures is that they target kids. They don't last long, produce a lot of cringe filled content, and the creators seem to be all about the money. Adult themes will leak into all subcultures eventually. I saw Phineas and Ferb listed as an example. I think it was yesterday I was going through some memes right, and I came across an image of an anthropomorphic Perry the Platypus with abs, next to a pregnant Phineas. WTF?! And I know that's light compared to some of the stuff that's out there. Kids can be fans of shows and games, but we need to keep them away from the cancerous environments that surround them until they're older.

It's not up to me to say what they should or should not do, it is up to their parents.

If I were in the parent's position, I'd really hope they avoid anything involving shooting, drugs, sex, and anything else. None of that is really appropriate for them.

children should explore subcultures to their leisure but come out respectful of others and without wanting to do harm.

We have two ears and one mouth, so we should listen more than we say.
