movies/tv Do you like Peter Capaldi as the Doctor?

Not my favorite, but YES! His accent is something that makes him amazing and he just feels really, really insane. Not the Tennant-Smith insane where they did crazy shit and got away with it, but he feels really insane as in he just got out of an asylum. AND I LOVE IT.

I only love you platonically.

As in plate tectonics.

As in two bodies sliding against each other.

I think he's gonna do a great job as the Doctor.  He's definitely different from any of the newer doctors, I think, which is nice.  I can't wait to see where this series leads us, and this first episode reminded me of a question I hadn't realized hadn't been answered......who gave Clara The Doctor's number?

Just got out of watching Deep Breath for the first time....he's definitely blown me away. Deep Breath was a fantastic start to what is looking to be the best series yet and I can't wait for more.

He is refreshingly different, I can but hope the writing picks up in quality.

It's been far too long since we've seen a cantankerous old man as The Doctor. As a fan of the older series, I heartily approve! Capaldi seems to be heralding a nice change of pace and tone. Plus, he has ATTACK EYEBROWS.  :fiery:

Now if we could just have the lead writer regenerate, that would be fabulous. I respect Moffat's ability, but he does far better as a writer of singular episodes than he does as a show runner. Though I must give credit where's it's due; while the plot was a little thin at times in Deep Breath, the emotion in the acting and writing was spectacular, and the tone of the episode was trending toward something dark. The Doctor's raving to the homeless guy was as frightening as it was humorous, and those robot things were pretty darn terrifying. (Helped in no small part by the quality of Jenna Coleman's acting.)

I feel very positive, and I absolutely cannot wait for more!

While he spent most of the first part loopy thanks to being freshly regenerated, what we did see was a welcome change. Peter Capaldi seems much more serious when compared to Matt Smith's almost zany antics, and has a hint of Ten in him that he was hesitant to personally kill the clockwork android (which was a nice call back to Girl in the Fireplace) . Though apparently Twelve is also part bloodhound now...

(Note, I'm only on season 3 of the new show)

My worry from his statements is that his Doctor is going to be a Knight of Cerberus  with a major attitude problem that sucks all the fun and humor out of the show and reduces the Doctor to cliche dark Anti-Hero like sci-fi and fantasy is already bloated with as it is.

Right when Capaldi was announced as the next Doctor, I already knew he would do great, and he is. Calra/the die-hard smith-fans were even given a sentimental goodbye....I wasn't prepared for such feels....MOFFATT!!!

OMG YES. I am actually too excited about it to really put it into words!

I think he is going to be fantastic. I love that fact that he is older than what this younger generation of Doctor Who fans have been exposed to. I love his personality. I feel like it's much different from the previous Doctor's. I'm excited to see where this season takes him. Moffat is gonna frickin' rock this. And Capaldi will do it justice.  ^_^

Nope, and I have no shame saying so.  If all the "true fans" want to lecture me for saying he's too old, because in Classic Who they had Doctors just as wrinkled or something, that's just fine.  I don't care.  I only started watching DW for the contemporary stuff, which includes having younger, more relateable Doctors, and so I'm not gonna jump for joy over the Capaldi pick.

Still, I dunno Capaldi that well, so I haven't made my final decision yet, and won't till I see the show.  But I've a sneaking suspicion they picked a less exciting Doctor on purpose for number 12.5, so that when they reveal the most epic casting choice EVER for 13 it will be that much cooler.

"I'M SCOTTISH." He is Scottish. That should be enough reason to like him, but it was only the first episode. Let us see what next week brings us which should be great because we have Daleks.
