My Little Alicorn - Awesome Comedic/Slice-of-Life fiction about Luna playing a trick on her sister that gets out of hand. It has many hilarious, and emotional parts.

 

Anthropology - Hilarious Comedy fiction about Lyra and her obsession with humans.

Fallout: Equestria- very long, but it's just so damn good... you got post-apocalyptic Equestria, great characters, humor, action, crazy plot twists, and an overall very emotional storyline- I highly recommend it to anyone who has the time to read it and doesn't mind mature themes in their ponies.

it is worth the long read, imo. Probably one of the best fictions I've read, and one of my favorites.

 

An awesome FO:E sidefic is Pink Eyes. The main character is so clueless and adorable it's impossible to not love her.

Oh absolutely, as someone who read the whole thing I certainly think the long read was worth it. And yes, there are many unrelated sidefics(the author encourages people to write them, after all), but I wouldn't worry about those unless you finish the original(which is the best anyway).

The only thing that ties most sidefics and the main fiction together is the environment. So, no you don't need to read the side fiction to understand the main fiction, and vice versa.

Veiled Enigma already recommended it, but Anthropology is probably my favorite FiMfic, it's hilarious but also touching, very well written, and captures your attention immediately. Very highly recommended. Fallout Equestria is very good too but you have to be free for like half a year just to finish it :/
