Did YouTube's related/suggested videos "get you" ?

So just over a year ago (Christmas '13) I found out that Tara strong was in "My Little Pony" :o:lol: .

I just had to see this crap and laugh at how dumb her part was. I somehow knew NOTHING about the fandom and thought it was STILL the old show. So I watched the first two episodes on YouTube. I was very surprised that it was actually quite......Normal? :wau:  Oh- and the flash animation was actually well done too. For me that would have been the end of it. It was better than I expected, but I had no further interest.

Well, you know what happens when you type anything MLP into YouTube. :umad: You might as well have downloaded a virus. :smug:

So for 2 or 3 weeks after, I kept noticing pony things showing up on the side. I was just like, "what the heck, WHY?!?!" and ignored it. Finally I saw a thumbnail with some video with Vinyl Scratch by a DJ Turntable and it made me curious enough to click it because of "Its" hair and weird glasses.

I think it was this:

All it did was confuse me more. So I clicked on a few pony videos, getting more and more confused. I thought there was some joke going on making fun of the show somehow that I wasn't getting. Then I saw Children Of The Night.

It reminded me of Disney type stuff.:o

Now I just HAD to get to the bottom of whatever is going on. I watched the third episode...then fourth... and then all of them over a couple weeks until I caught up with the show by Rainbow Falls.

During this time I learned about the fandom, Lauren Faust, and the cast/crew on the show also.

So did YouTube do you in also? :umad:

Rainbow Rocks... at least how it could've looked... in a stranger, more interesting dimension

I didn't even realise the show existed until I saw a related video (probably Fluttershy saying 'yay' or something), and after seeing one I decided to check the other related videos out. Soon enough, I was looking for full montages, and by then, there was no turning back.

Yes, YouTube suggested videos actually did play a huge part in drawing me to the fandom. I also thought Friendship is Magic sucked like the older generations and that bronies were silly and dumb. But I finally decided to check out some clips of it on YouTube because they kept coming up on my Google searches. That's how I discovered all of the works of this fandom and what led me to change my mind about bronies and become one myself.

Absolutely.  Youtube related videos changed my life.  I was watching Good Mythical Morning, which I only discovered by accident from related videos, and one of the related GMM episodes was "The Brony Controversy."  I watched it and became intrigued about the show.  About five minutes later, it was "welcome to the herd."

As a tangent, I love to play the youtube related game.  Just keep clicking related videos and see where it takes you.

The first MLP video I ever watched was the "You're Gonna Go Far Kid" Rainbow Dash parody. I'm pretty sure it was in my suggested videos.

It was what got me interested in MLP.

I found about mlp after watching some parodys and seeing comments about bronys on both youtube and 9gag.

what i mostly saw was hate but my curiosity grew and i forced myself to watch it,  it was worth it and i love mlp now.

Stumbling across bronys and mlp on the internet is pretty much inevitable.

Nope, but it did help.  I believe one of the first pony videos I ever saw was Fluttersy saying "Yay!".  I at the time had no idea what episode it was from, who the characters were, or anything.  But seeing that clip made me even more curious than I was already.

All the related stuff eventually brought me to watch an episode; they seemed to be popular, so I checked them out :).

No, I did use youtube to when I first watched the show but not through suggestions. Although, after I watched my first episode, I didn't get back into that again for a while since I just wanted to check it out. But the suggestions reminded me to watch more of it.

Well... Sort of, I'm actually here because of YouTube I guess however I saw it through a video mocking bronies. Then I saw the ponies and wondered what's all the fuss I suppose, so I watched the show and now I'm the one that video is mocking :P Soooo sort of YouTube, but I'm not sure if that counts

Yep, the first bit of MLP I ever watched was Epic Pie Time :P

That was one of the first things I saw too.

I was like Ummmm....that was. ...something......   What the hell did I just watch?!?!?!

It is a lot funnier when you know the show/characters. I didn't notice the Applebloom part until I watched it again few months later.

  • 4 weeks later...

Sort of, yeah.

My friends and I were watching music videos on YouTube (online friends, since I'm kind of a loner now ) and I came across a PMV in the YouTube suggestions. I decided to watch it, and I actually liked it.

http://youtu.be/c0ftndHZq3g

I liked it because it was very simple, not overflowing with effects and pans like many other PMVs out there. Plus, I loved the scenes the creator of this video picked out. FlutterDash is clearly best ship. :proud:

I thought the scenes in the video were interesting, so I decided to marathon the show. I honestly thought that I would get uninterested after watching a few episodes, but I started to love the show.

I knew about MLP before I watched the PMV and marathoned the show. My friends recommended it to me in 2012. At first I thought the show was stupid, but I eventually watched it (since I found out Tara Strong was in it, and I was a huge fan of her and The Fairly Odd Parents back then) and thought it was surprisingly good. I didn't think the show was a major thing to me, just a show, and forgot about it until I watched the PMV.

Yep, that's my story. Sorry for the huge novel. :P

That is exactly how I got drawn in. I saw the GMM episode about bronies and then watched SaberSpark's documentary. The rest is history.

It was TV Tropes that got me into watching the show. I liked the first two episodes so I kept watching. After finishing the season I looked around for stuff related to the fandom but aside from Ponychan at the time most of it didn't really grab my attention. This was between seasons 1 and 2.
