How did you view my little pony prior to FIM?

I did not have much of an opinion on it except that it was some really girly thing. To be honest, that's still how I see it.

I can't get into this without telling the story of how I became a brony so my thoughts prior to FiM are there but I've included my brony story as well.

Prior to even knowing of FiM, I thought it was terrible as a show and it was good for making guys my age feel insecure of their masculinity. When I discovered FiM in 2011 and it was taking over the internet, I was confused. Very confused. Historically, MLP had been awful to me. Of course, all I'd been exposed to was G3. I never saw the original MLP or Pony Tales (G2), and I actually have heard that G2 MLP handles the slice of life better than G4, but I've yet to test this myself. So as I became more confused that these guys were watching what was (in my eyes) a horribly written show (because I had that bias only having ever seen G3 that any MLP was bound to be badly written because it's all a low budget toy ploy), I became more curious...

I started off by doing some research on it. Why were ponies taking over the internet? Eventually I discovered what The Hub was. Basically what I read was, "The Hub is a network owned by Hasbro that airs shows based on its toys that are fun for kids and not painful for any adult with more than 3 brain cells to sit through."

I got more curious...What I was getting is that the shows are aimed at making it entertaining for adults too? This I had to see for myself.

So around February or March 2012 I checked it out. I said I was going to watch ONE episode just to see what all the hubbub was about. Just to see if it was worth it. Because there had to be a reason it was all over the place....But I would only watch JUST ONE episode. Then never, ever again.

I think I watched Bridle Gossip. And I'll admit. It was hilarious. But I had a promise to keep to myself. One episode and then never again.

And I stuck to it....

Until about late June/early July. I was just curious. And ponies were everywhere. And now that the seeds had been planted, I knew what all the fuss over the interwebs was about. Why ponies were everywhere.

So I marathoned the whole series (which was just the first two seasons) in four days.

52 episodes. 4 days. I only left my computer to eat, sleep, and excrete.

And that's when I realized I was a brony. So then I started my account here.

Never gave it much thought before FiM. I always hated the commercials that would come on while trying to watch Saturday morning cartoons, with the darn theme song playing as ever annoyingly. I used to mute the TV or change the channel, such silly girly things didn't at all appeal to my 12 y/o self, and I was perfectly content to keep it that way.

Oh, how funny it all seems now in hindsight.. :please:

Well may as well tell my story, simply put I knew next to nothing about it (outside of the fact it existed), I even remember how I found out about this franchises existence, I was like 7 or 8 years old and someone mentioned it and I asked "what's my little pony" to which they responded "girls toy line", the moment I heard that I immediately wrote it of as dumb and not for me. And that's pretty much how I viewed it until early 2012.

No matter how hard I try these ponies will simply never leave me.

I didn't really have an opinion. I never thought about it. I only saw shirts and stuff about it about once every two years. When I did, I disregarded it because the people wearing the shirts were 6 or so.

This is your average, everyday annoying signature.

Are you seriously reading this?

Really?

Wow. I didn't think you'd actually waste enough time to get to the fourth line.

Or the fifth, for that matter. What, am I interesting or something?

My sisters had a few of the toys when we were growing up.

I may have seen one of the films back then at The Ritz, but I'm not sure. I can definitely remember being taken to see a film about some girly toys that my sisters liked, but that may have been the Care Bears. Who knows? I probably saw both.

I had a similar interest in colorful equines before FIM and actually owned a number of MLP figures.

I had very little conscious exposure to MLP before FiM. (Sorry... I've told this story before) The first time I really found out about it was around a decade ago when I had an online friend who collected them. I honestly had no opinion over it at the time. I was in my mid-teens, had no money for myself, and was not open to trying many new things at the time... So a toyline that I never even played with during my childhood just wasn't even on my radar at the time.

Nevertheless, I always had a slight bit of respect for the brand just because of that friend. So when FiM started popping up on the internet I thought it was neat that MLP had popped up in my view again.

I didn't have a firm opinion on it, but being a young eight-year old boy, I sort of felt inclined to hate it. I remember even telling myself in my mind once "I will never watch that."

...Yeah. Need I say more.

I never really hated the prior generations.  I respected them for what they were and, frankly, none of them struck a chord with me.  Even the G1 cartoon, despite having some merit didn't really catch on.  I watched it out of curiosity because MLP was another Hasbro franchise and they were made by the same studio and voice actors as the contemporary GI Joe, Transformers, and Jem cartoons.  But I saw enough of the G1 cartoon to know that Megan would always find the solution and save the day.  The other MLP series I watched, My Little Pony Tales, came across as a sitcom for children.  The only episode from MLPT I truly enjoyed was Shop Talk.  That was one one big belly laugh after another.

Definitely not for me, never went out of my way to look into it or anything.

I only started watching FiM out of morbid curiosity because of how everyone was saying it was great

I like the FIM before it was cool.

I used to have a My Little Pony VHS when I was little with about 4 episodes from the 1980's that I used to watch over and over again. I also had a few G1 and G2 toys.

For many years I hadn't really thought about it until I was browsing through Netflix and came across the Bronies documentary and the rest is history!

Blazing indifference. It was my younger sister's show, and she outgrew it fairly quickly.

I had M.A.S.K, Transformers, Action Force (G.I Joe in the UK), Banana Man and Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles (which was just like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles only with every hint of danger and ninjas cut out to defend my fragile little mind).
