How did you view my little pony prior to FIM?

I thought it was a horrible abomination that should have died in the 80s when it began. At first I couldn't believe MLP could ever be good, but then I started seeing more and more references to it on TV Tropes, including a Crowning Moment of Awesome page (this was between seasons 1 and 2). Even now I don't like the older gens; G4 is the only worthwile gen IMO.

Around 2003, I remember seeing a commercial for the MLP toys at the time, but I'd literally forgotten all about it except the line "my little pony, my little pony". So yeah, it was a franchise I'd ignored until discovering Friendship is Magic.
