Dark Horse 12,964 February 28, 2015 Share February 28, 2015 I'd say they're more tomboys then anything, especially Dash. But as peeps have said it's not like they don't show any feminine traits, they're just not as girly as the others. Nothing wrong with that and tbh I prefer them that way. It adds more diversity to the gang. 2 "Always watching - Always lurking." Signature by @Kyoshi
Cloud Strife 928 February 28, 2015 Share February 28, 2015 what does having eyelashes have to do with being feminine? Boys also have eyelashes. It's a necessary body part to keep crap out of our eyes. Longer eyelashes are a sign of estrogen, which is a feminine hormone, and there's a clear difference between female and male ponies in the show when it comes to eyelashes, being that male ponies barely have them. So yes, definitely in the show it's a feminine trait. Rainbow Dash would never wear a dress unless she had to. It's not a bad thing that Dash doesn't express any stereotypically "feminine" traits. Fluttershy doesn't exhibit any "masculine" traits and that is okay. She seems perfectly fine with it for the Gala. Heck, she even demanded Rarity make her dress for her. And yes, I saw your post saying she supposedly "didn't want it", but that's not true. She, like the other ponies, simply didn't like the initial design that Rarity made for her because it wasn't "cool enough". The dress afterward was still a dress. 7 AVATAR | SIGNATURE
Silver Letter 1,832 February 28, 2015 Share February 28, 2015 Heck, she even demanded Rarity make her dress for her. It makes more sense that the gala wouldn't let them in without formal wear rather than Dash actually liking dresses. She will only wear one for a formal event like the royal wedding. Silver Letter!!! She will only wear one for a formal event like the royal wedding. If you watch it again, there were plenty of ponies in the background that weren't having anything. Plus, in Suited for Success, she thought having a fashion show was gonna be really fun
Cloud Strife 928 February 28, 2015 Share February 28, 2015 She will only wear one for a formal event like the royal wedding. 's post supplemented with this point: this goes for all of the ponies except for Rarity. How many times have you seen Twilight wear a dress outside of formal occasions? I would hardly say that Twilight is against feminine things, either. Applejack even said "uh, we don't normally wear clothes". VitalSpark 1,830 March 1, 2015 Share March 1, 2015 Applejack even said "uh, we don't normally wear clothes". Ironic given that Applejack is the only Mane 6 who is almost never seen without an item of clothing on. USGC 16 March 8, 2016 Share March 8, 2016 I say they are both very girly tomboys. They are tomboys, but have a bunch of girly features. It seems like Dash is more of a tomboy at first, but as you watch more episodes, you can see that she can go fan girl mode, kissed a para sprite because it was cute, actually requested Rarity make her a dress, and more traits too. So I would say they are both equally feminine and masculine. Lets just say they're the manliest ladies in the show and call it a day. I'll buy you some cookies for just being yourself. Love ya. Maki 0 March 8, 2016 Share March 8, 2016 Applejack and Rainbow Dash are obviously tomboys, but they have their own, little girly moments like most girls do. You can think of them as Mion Sonozaki, but not as crazy
Gearbox10mm 794 March 8, 2016 Share March 8, 2016 It is a little condescending to suggest being athletic or a hard worker are inherently non-feminine traits.

Lexamena 391 March 8, 2016 Share March 8, 2016 In my opinion, they're the two least feminine in the mane six, if not all mares in the show. The only time I think they're really feminine is when they dress up in a gown of some sort and have their manes styled in an updo.
chili 120 March 8, 2016 Share March 8, 2016 Yes, there isn't just one type of feminine, after all. They are a bit rough, but that can still be feminine. In a good way!
Ponies4Bronies 394 March 8, 2016 Share March 8, 2016 They aren't really that feminine, they show that girls don't have to be, which is great. But in contrast, my Honey will wear a dress sometimes, but she doesn't like it when I tell her she is...that pegasus can get confusing sometimes, which is why I accept her logic. Rainbow Diamonds 282 March 8, 2016 Share March 8, 2016 Rainbow Dash would never wear a dress unless she had to. It's not a bad thing that Dash doesn't express any stereotypically "feminine" traits. Fluttershy doesn't exhibit any "masculine" traits and that is okay. Wrong. Absolutely wrong! Rainbow Dash enjoys wearing dresses and even considered being in a fashion show fun. She didn't protest wearing a dress like Applejack did. Also, in "Swarm of the Century" Rainbow had no problem wearing a dress for princess Celestia. Her problem was that she had to sit still, which she hates doing. Rainbow doesn't typically go around wearing dresses like Rarity does, but there was never any indication that she had to wear a dress. If she didn't like wearing dresses, she would have told Rarity in Suited For Success. In that episode, Rainbow was blunt. I'm sure she would have been blunt about her dislike of dresses if she didn't like them.

Miles 2,513 March 8, 2016 Share March 8, 2016 Like many have stated already of their opinions, I think Rainbow is more of a tomboy and Applejack is more of a cowgirl/country girl. I think they both have about the same levels of femininity. However, I would say that Applejack seems to have more masculinity. In any case, I think both are more masculine than Braeburn, hehehe... ~ Miles ~ Rise And Rise Again, Until Lambs Become Lions ~
Starlet Harmony 128 March 8, 2016 Share March 8, 2016 Honestly, I think they are neither! Obviously, compared to some pony like Rarity, they are not feminine, but you could really ask that about the rest of the mane 6... I mean, Twilight doesn't really act "feminine" she has her feminine moments, but all of them (except Rarity haha) don't really fit into a category in my opinion. I think that between Aj and RD tho, Aj is definitely the less girly one. I mean, I wouldn't say that she is "masculine" because there are plenty of girls out there that aren't masculine, but they aren't super girly either. She doesn't like wearing makeup and dresses but I just think that makes her natural, not less feminine.
AtomicStone 724 March 8, 2016 Share March 8, 2016 They have moments when they show their feminine side, but are probably the least so out of any pony that I've seen so far.
Steve Piranha 29,449 March 10, 2016 Share March 10, 2016 No person lacks traits commonly associated to the opposite gender. AJ, she's in the middle ground, she's a bit girly sometimes, but hates being too fru fru, but she's far from afraid to get dirty or doing hard work. Dashie, she's a professional tomboy, it's safe to say she's not feminine Sig by Discords

Jest (Inactive) 875 March 10, 2016 Share March 10, 2016 I think both are pretty tomboyish, rainbow dash for sure. Sunny Fox 5,952 March 10, 2016 Share March 10, 2016 Yes, all of the Mane Six were designed to be feminine in different ways. That's kind of the point. Girls can be competitive and sports orientated, girls can be hard workers (ala Rosie the Riveter). Where tradition tries to constrain females to be a certain way, FiM has always been about allowing characters to be feminine on their own terms. 1 Happy minion of The Fabulous One!
