What Should The "Earth Ponies" Be Called?

The term is a bit weak. That's like calling Pegasi "sky ponies or cloud ponies" or Unicorns "magic ponies or horn ponies" or calling Alicorns "all of the above ponies". So the Earth Ponies deserve their own title that doesn't involve their species name in it. What do you all think that should be?

 

I've come up with a few ideas. Feel free to contribute your own and I'll add them to the poll.

Personally I like "Earth Ponies"

"Earth" refers to the fact they're farmers, and that they can run fast and are strong etc., I think it fits them well...

"Earthbound" sounds negative-- like they're stuck to the earth rather than in tune with it. Plus, that'd technically include the Unicorns too, so now it kinda sounds like something a Pegasus would say to the other two races because they can't fly. Sounds mean, you know?

 

I did laugh at Broncos but Thoroughbreds and Steeds didn't sound that great. Now, a Mustang on the other hand, is a great vehicle. If I were an Earth Pony, I'd rather be called a Mustang.

I just want to point out that some of the choices you have do actually have meanings behind them.

Steed - A horse being ridden or ready to ride.

Mustang - A feral horse, more specifically of the north american plains.

Thoroughbred - A breed of racehorse but also used as a term for any breed of purebred horse.

Bronco - An untrained horse that is prone to bucking.

Personally I like earth pony. Simple and its what the show calls em.

Though it IS a strange way to name them.

 

EDIT: the Earthbound though... I wouldn't complain.

You need to remember that unicorns and pegasis are existing mythological creatures. Earth ponies are not. If you want to be fair just say Pegasis Ponies and Unicorn Ponies. Now we don't commonly due that because unicorn and pegasis says everything you need to know-horned and winged equines.

 

Sorry but only Earth Ponies works.

They should be called earth ponies because that's what they are, pegasus aren't called cloud ponies or anything because they live on the ground and air. Unicorns are just called that because of their horn.

I'd say Earth Pony is the best name as it just really fits. Outside of just flat out calling them "Horse," there really isn't a much better name that could fit them. The terms Unicorn and Pegasus come from mythology, so the names fit naturally, but with Earth Pony...there isn't much else to use.

 

I mean the name fits perfectly! Earth ponies, by tradition, are great farmers, builders, and are very good with things in relation to earth, if you will.

A quick example could be Arion

A mythical Greek horse, just like Unicorn and Pegasus, known for immortality and speed. Not the most fitting qualities, but there might be some quite fitting in there
