Did you expect the community/fandom to be as it is? and did that change?

As the title suggests, did you expect the community/fandom to be as it is?

And did that change once you got into the community?

I mean things like:

 

• The size of the community
   
• Everypony`s personality
   
• The way we interact with each other
   
• The reason people like the show

 

In my case I did expect the community to be as big as it is, I was expecting everyone to be nice and kinda the same interests as me (liking the things about the show that I like) as for interaction I was expecting everyone to get allong well with each other.

 

Once I got into the community I was pleasantly to see how nice everypony is, and how we all go allong with each other!

I am amazed at how insightfull someponies are and see the little references in episodes that I don`t, and I learn more about the show every time I`m here and that in turn makes me like the show more and more!

 

I`m really interested in hearing what everypony else expected!

First impressions of the community were great for me, friendly ponies, happy people, fun pony time. It looked like a dream come true.  So happy place no hatred and i can be happy pony.

 

Though when i looked deeper into the fandom i saw that its not as perfect as I excpected it to be as a whole.  

 

But as for me the idea behind the show is beautiful and friendship truly is magic.

I really did not know what to expect. However, I will say that this community has been a wonderful experience in my time here. I have been a Brony since season one was airing and I will gladly take the few hiccups and heart aches if it means I can keep the overall positive and nurturing environment that this is.

I did expect the community to be rather large and why they like the show. However, I did not expect everyone to be so friendly and welcoming . It was a big change for me .

I like it as is but During the Hiatus there is always a lot of slamjams and drama going around but you know... We are humans and we make mistakes and we need to learn from our mistakes

I expected the fandom/community to be rather large as i joined when i had a total week of pony related stuff, in a week where i wasn't a brony yet! However, i did not expect the people to be so........nice. I've been on the internet a long time and have met a lot of terrible excuses for human beings (like 1500 of these to every half decent person) and expected people on here to be simmilar, if not the same, but no one was! Everypony was nice and welcoming and still are today, which gives me some hope for our spiecies in the future (if ignorent jack a**** stop making stupid steryotypes out of us!)

I came into this community knowing that this forum will grow very large (it was already at 15 thousand when I joined!). I knew why Bronies liked the show, so I wasn't confused. As for how the members would act, well I didn't know what to expect. I thought I would have to deal with mean spirited people on here, but I was wrong! Everyone here is nice and helpful. This community is the best community I've been in and I have no intention in leaving anytime soon!

When I first came into this community, I was pleased by how friendly everyone was and how even though there were so many members on this forum, it still felt like a tightly knit family.

 

However, as I went deep into the fandom, I encountered many.....interesting things. It's not completely perfect but we have such a happy and friendly community so it is easy to overlook some of the weirder things in this fandom.

You're factually wrong. The brony fandom is a great fandom. We've got millions of people, and 99.999999% of them are fantastic. There are numerous charities, great art, great dedications to characters they adore. Best of all, they're a community despite its vast size and never relented. If the fandom was terrible, then you wouldn't see bronies respond by responding to how society often sticks to gender roles like when a kid wasn't allowed to bring his backpack because "it was a trigger to bully," bronies donate to charities to both help pay for Michael Morones's medical expenses and confront the cancer that Kiki Havivy had to tirelessly battle.

 

Is it perfect? No. No fandom is. Me being a veteran of fandoms, I know firsthand. But look around, and you'll see the hundreds and thousands of positives this fandom has.

I did not expect to have a love/hate feeling with this fandom. Sometimes I meet people who are some of the coolest, and sometimes I meet people that almost make one of my blood vessels pop

My initial first impression was positive, even before I got into ponies I was actually impressed by the quality of a lot of the fanworks and liked the creativity that the fandom inspired. I never had any unrealistic expectations of the brony fandom being perfect as many seem to which of course leads to inevitable disappointment and butthurt. That is not to say that there haven't been some things about the MLP fandom that haven't annoyed or pissed me off as both the white knights and the people who take the show way way too seriously by expecting these unrealistic expectations of perfect fandom purity still baffle and annoy me just as much now as when I first found out about them. Sometimes though you have to take the good with bad and remember to keep things in perspective.

I wasn't expecting so many before i joined the community, but i guess i should have considering all those fandoms out there. But other than that, i'm happy. Those who i consider friends are the ones i talk to the most, even if it becomes a little awkward sometimes. But then i got to see the one thing i wish i could forget; Clop fics. I hate them with a passion, but i only read romances that are nothing like that.
