What I loved about this episode was that it had an MGS reference, Discord hiding in a cardboard box. Which is awesome, and the Hippy Tree Hugger, she is so awesome, because she's like ''I Don't care what you do to me, It's just nature''. Only problem was, everyone was treating Discord nicely, shouldn't they have known that he betrayed them a year ago? And where is Shining Armor? When will he appear in an episode? I also LOL'd when I saw the CMC excited about the gala. I was like ''It's not that exciting, don't get too excited CMC!!!''. Not to mention the Wilhelm Scream!

What I loved about this episode was that Discord's moment of friendship in the season 4 finale hasn't been retconned.

Everyone is a lot more patient and understanding with him, instead of simply telling him to GTFO.
This is progress, and I'm very happy about it.

Season 5 Fluttershy continues to be consistent, too.
Her past lessons are still sticking, as could be seen with how she asserted herself to put Discord down and make him realize the moral.

This was undoubtedly the best episode of the season so far.  I've mostly been underwhelmed by some of the episodes this year.  Most of them have been good, but they haven't jumped out at me or really made me laugh.

This episode was everything I enjoyed.  I always love Pinkie's randomness, but she definitely wasn't the funniest in comparison to Discord.  I love how he set the postal pony adrift and loved seeing that other creature grab him in the background, unknown to Discord.  I also love how only Princess Celestia laughed at Discord's joke.

And please never show Tree Hugger again.  They should have let her go into the other dimension.  She was so freaking annoying.

Another positive is getting to see Maud again.  She's great.

All in all, in my view, this episode is a 10/10.

Loved this episode. It was very funny, Discord was great, and actually pretty threatening at the end, and the jokes were all great. Plus the jokes aimed at older fans like Discord's cane having the mark of chaos on it were funny and the MGS reference. the smooze was actually entertaining, the mane six had some nice moments, and they FINALLY tried to explored Discord and fluttershy's relationship more.
Plus that mailman scene XD

The one thing I didn't like was Treehugger. GOOD LORD do I dislike tree hugger. "Stoner joke, stoner joke, stoner joke" gets old REAL quick, and I just didn't care for her. I really hope she's more or less a one shot and NEVER shows up again.

8.5/10.

I absolutely loved this episode, and it was pretty cool because for a while... I was actually mad at Fluttershy.

(Oh Celestia, please don't let this get flamed)

But seriously, I felt as if Discord was put on the sidelines for someone who Fluttershy was only barely friends with. Then again, that observation sort of imposes my own personal views of 'friendship'. Fluttershy doesn't seem to be affected so much by how long she's been friends with someone so much as the quality and nature of the person she calls a friend. And that is good news for Discord, because as she states near the end, it would be the same difference as if Discord had someone he could discuss chaos freely with.

This was a well-orchestrated episode that certainly felt tailored at times for the fans. I loved the little references they added in, like when Discord was hiding in a box from Pinkie Pie. Very good stuff, altogether fun, and you just can't go wrong (or, maybe right) when Discord is involved.

I was actually sort of mad with Fluttershy too.  I don't think the writers in the episode meant her to be insensitive to Discord, but that was the impression that I got as well.  It wasn't really that she was putting Discord on the sidelines for Tree Hugger, but she seemed completely oblivious to the fact that he was hurt.  She knows more than anyone how new he is to all of this and if she would have just acknowledged his feelings in the beginning, they could have saved a lot of trouble.

And I agree about the likelihood of being flamed.  However it's my impression and I'm not going to get into a discussion about it with anyone.  That was the impression I got from Fluttershy and no one else's impression is going to change that.

I liked the episode, but I thought the whole episode was a awful like "Bride of Discord", a Fluttercord fan fiction on FIMFiction and Fanfiction.net. After all, in this Fluttercord episode, we get our second Grand Galloping Gala, the Cutie Mark Crusaders are going with their big sisters (except unlike Bride of Discord, the CMC don't have cutie marks yet but in the fan fiction they do when they go to the Gala), and a lot of scenes are similar to some art in the autoseries of the fan fiction. I hadn't finished the whole story however but you can't argue if you read and/or heard the autoseries that the episode has a lot in common with it. I'm not saying this as a bad thing, but I've noticed the episode is quite a lot like Bride of Discord. The few similarities are actually quite funny. Also, I was surprised they included that puppet scene in the portal Discord was going to throw Tree Hugger in. I wouldn't expect MLP:FIM to do something like that in the show.

And I love how Maud Pie is in it!

This was such a good episode. Me being the kind of fan that I am, I instantly fell in love with Tree Hugger. I love her design and once you get past all the exaggerated new agey spiritualisms she spits out (it's a cartoon, I get it, it has to be funny), she just sticks with you. How appropriate to have her as Fluttershy's friend. I can just imagine the things they would smoke together...... oops, I meant to say, the things they would SMOKE together....... yeah, that's it.

Other than the introduction of the best pony ever, Discord was hilarious in this. I love the 80's comedians references and the MGS box reference. If Kojima tweets about the episode i will die. Maud tho... ouch! She didn't just call him basic. She didn't just call him a joke. She called him the most basic of jokes.... daaaayyuuuumm.....

I honestly think Celestia was drunk ("I am quite looking forward to just ENJOYING the Gala for once"). She laughed at Twilight when Discord took a jab at her. Celestia, a good mentor doesn't laugh at her student's sucky skills. Plus I'm sure if she REEEEEEAAAAALLY tried, she could've stopped the Smooze. Discord did it with ease. She can control the sun for goodness sake! Also she was the one who invited Discord this year. Tia wanted to Turn Up. Too bad Luna couldn't get off from work.

Bleh, this episode was so so. Celestia's return to the silverscreen wasn't all that triumphant. And Tree hugger? Really? A stoned out pony? Jeesh. This episode felt like Washington State.

beginning of the third act: YES, IT BEGINS, YOU ARE SCREWED EQUESTRIA, THE SMOOZE TAKE OVER BEGINS. SING WITH ME! "NOONE CAN STOP THE SMOOZE!!!"

3 minutes into the third act: noone can stop the smooze... except Tree Hugger..... *eye twitches*

no smooze takeover 0/10

Ok in all seriousness I did like this episode, I lost it at the metal gear reference. The inclusion of the Smooze was nice and all I just wish he was a threat for more of a grand total of 2-3 minutes. Tree Hugger was a nice character... I guess... I like hippie ponies... they are cool.

stupid people will make jokes about how Fluttershy likes to get high with her.

and kinda clever (but not really) people will take about how Flutterhugger is OTP cause Fluttershy wants to be a tree.

and some complete moron will make jokes about people making stupid jokes about this new character

If you cant tell I'm real bad at this

good episode 7.6/10

Fave episode of season 5 so far. I mean, where do I start? The references towards games and comedy, the new characters, everypony was funny (even maud? wow!) I just loved it so much, and I really cant think of a bad thing to say about the episode.

First off, what's up with the hate of Treehugger? She could have been written in an annoying passive-aggressive-ish hippie way, but she was simply relaxed and in touch with her own feelings and thoughts. Something I'm personally striving to be myself. Maybe a tad too much on the spiritual side, but not overwhelming, charmingly much perhaps.

The puppet dimension... I laughed more than I should have at that scene. I first thought it was a portal to the human world. You know the actual human world, our world, and that we would see her banished to us for a moment before being pulled back.

The episode was hyper predictable only 15 seconds in, which was a bummer, and the awkwardness that followed was unfortunately mostly in the negative variant.

Nothing too much more to point out except for the moral, which had a nice little twist to it.

It wasn't just "Allow your friends to have their own spare time and other friends"

But also "One of your friends might not share all of your interests, and you shouldn't expect them to do. Therefore you should have multiple friends with diverse interests".

Something that I felt was underlined by the amount of characters at the gala. Discord, Fluttershy, Trehugger, Maud, the-slime-guy, Pinkie Pie and Twilight is really a diverse group of people, showing that interests go across different people.

I agree to the idea that Fluttershy was oblivious to Discord's feelings from the beginning of the episode, but not so much being oblivious in the complete sense - (well I'll try to explain later).  The whole episode's premise though, does hinge on this tiny detail, which if she noticed at the beginning, would mean that this episode's shenanigans wouldn't have happened and it would have resolved itself very quickly.  Just my thoughts, but I see it more like that Fluttershy is lacking the skill to interpret and understand sarcasm in terms of body language, tone of voice, eye contact etc.   I don't think that's far-fetched for her character because she seems to lack cynicism or skepticism and takes sarcasm at face value. Looking back at the original opening sequence of the episode - Fluttershy thought that Discord had gotten his ticket.  Discord (pretending to not be hurt/jealous/envious) shrugs it off and says 'it's no biggie'  (of course he's being sarcastic, but Fluttershy takes his response at complete face-value and continues on her merry-way without giving it second thought).

I really loved this episode - to be fair, I love any episode with Discord :D I despise Treehugger, she's easily my least favourite pony of the entire show, and I was also a little angry at Fluttershy. But I adored this episode, Discord was awesome as usual :)

How come it felt weird that everypony's date was with the same gender?

Or a sibling filly... Yaaaa

Ya this was one of the few things that drove me nuts. Not a single male date invthe bunch at such an importent event.

And here i was thinking that Hasbro was finally growing a pair

She just grated on my nerves.  I generally see the characters who are of a certain persona embracing the persona in a positive way.  Tree Hugger's very name is a jibe at hippies or environmentalists.  She came across to me as the show mocking people like that and in my view that goes against the basis of this show.

Didn't feel weird to me at all.  They were all referred to as guests, not dates, although it wouldn't have bothered me if they were dates either.

This episode was simply amazing. I loved the metal gear solid reference they used and I was freaking out for a good few minutes because I didn't expect them to put a video game reference in the episode . Pinkie breaking the 4th wall was great to see as well and seeing Discord's home was interesting to see, as we haven't seen where he actually lives since season 4 I think. It was great seeing familiar faces such as Maud and Tree Hugger was an interesting character as well. I also liked how they talked about a past episode from an earlier season. The comedy bit was pretty good and Maud's comment was pretty funny. Fluttershy's oblivousness was cute and adorable in my opinion, however I'm surprised that she didn't catch on Discord's feelings, even though they consider each other best friends. The smooze, now that was the life of the party and it was great to see the smoozinator doing what it did best at the gala. Celestia in this episode reminded me of how she was at the end of "The Best Night Ever" and that was great to see again. All in all I really loved this episode. "Castle Sweet Castle" was my favorite episode of the season so far, but I think this episode has now become my new favorite episode of season 5 so far.  ^_^
