It's a show about multi-colored horses learning the values of friendship.

Well it's a cartoon and cartoons are allowed to be very strange. That's whats so interesting about cartoons is that you can create your own world, setting, logic, characters, atmosphere. Anything you want that's harder to do in live action shows.

And by the way Oz has multi colored horses too.

A game a lot of people seem to like is basically about shooting people. We have different forms of entertainment, and it's more than just multi-colored horses learning about friendship. That's the basic idea, but there's more to it than that. Do music lovers waste their time listening to music when they could do better things with their life? I think it's only considered wasting time if someone doesn't like it. If I want to act out in my bedroom or watch TV, no one should stop me. I enjoy what I'm doing. I may not be benefitting society or making money, but I enjoy it. I also enjoy drawing without money. Should I also stop drawing? Is something only worthy if it's beneficial either to society or financially? If so, then I am worthless.

It's never really occurred to me, probably because it's one of my more normal interests if anything. ._. But... I guess strangeness has its own appeal to me, and I doubt the show would have gotten the following it has if it was normalized and realistic.

It has occurred to me, but the more I think about it, the more I think about how much I don't care. Yes, it's about multi-colored horses learning the values of friendship, but it's also about complex characters developing in a rich and interesting world, filled with dangers and mysteries.

Did it ever occur to you:

"Why do I like a show about such strange things?"

This past April, I walked into a hotel in San Francisco, and this thought went through my head:

'I'm standing here, next to three people I've never met in person, thousands of miles from home, in a building filled with hundreds of men who have dedicated much of their free time devoted to a cartoon about ponies who teach each other about friendship. Life is weird ... and I'm OK with this!' :)

So I know exactly where you are coming from.

As one of those pony loving weirdos he mentioned, I second this.

I'm stricken by this thought on a daily basis. After being a brony for four years (as of tomorrow), neither the novelty nor the absurdity have worn off. This is a good thing, I might add. Nearly all of my leisure time and money spent on luxury items and travel have been related to ponies in that time span as well. No regrets, but every day I can't help but think how absurd this is.

I was only a few miles from home. I can relate to communities about cartoons and anime.

But it's all perfectly normal!

Like I said. normal.

I think life needs very weird things like this. Otherwise it would be kinda mundane. Oddities for the win!

And hey, being reminded of the values of Friendship is a win in my book, even if I am being reminded of it by magical equines that can kick clouds.

Huh.

Well, I watch Game of Thrones for eerie atmosphere, violence and boobies(!). I watch South Park for humor and parody of society. I watch Naruto for sad and the epic moments. And I watch My Little Pony for it's joyful atmosphere and uplifting morals.

Seem to have many emotions covered there. Many people seem to forget about the latter one.

Well, if you think about it, almost everything that is, is absurd. It's absurd for adult males, and even adult females to not only watch a show about colourful ponies for little girls, but to get so into it that we go to cons dedicated to it, and hop onto forums like this one to over analyze and debate finer points of a show where the writers probably haven't put that much thought. That much is true. However, isn't it equally absurd, if not more so, for one to let others decide what is or isn't absurd? Is it not absurd to devote our life to a world system that dictates our purpose in life and what meaning we may derive from it? As a Christian, I find it absurd to devote one's life to a system designed by humans in general, but that's a debate for another time. Let's not get started on how absurd a good portion of mainstream entertainment can be.

(edited)

Do you have this unidimensional perspective about yourself, as well?

Ignoring many aspects of the subject as possible.

Just imagine you're being labeled upon the very question you've just made, when nothing else is known about your person. What I've just done.

So, is it really a show about multi colored horses and friendship?

The answer might be easy to figure out, just imagine the show is exactly like what you've just said, take away every aspect that's not being reflected upon your words. Make it so it's as shallow as your question sounds.

Now, is it really like that, or there is a little bit more to it? About yourself.

Well, it you put it that way, Star Wars is just a bunch of wizard aliens hitting each other with glow sticks and floating around in tin cans...

The show isn't about horses or colors. Sure, it includes them, but that's only as a vessel for its topic. It's about friendship, and friendship is important.

Many adults haven't learned these friendship lessons yet. I know I learned a few things from MLP, I'm sure most people here have.

So, yeah. It's a show about friendship channeled through a rainbow of talking ponies. And it's great.

Sometimes a little voice in my head tells me that I'm out of my mind for watching a show about pastel ponies and the power of friendship. However, there is also another voice in my head that says, fuck that the new episode just came out.
