*Gasp* AWESOME!! :pinkie:

Wait.. Eevee isn't playable in this one? Aww.. :(

Well.. Still pretty hyped ;) and its cool i can play as Riolu again like i did in PMD2: Explorers of Sky :D

Though it's not gonna feel the same with protecting Eevee when she gets scared and runs away when she's low on health..

I'm sure this new one will never replace my favorite which is PMD2 (The only game that actually made me cry because the story was that good and sad at the end), but this new one is worth a look :)

I'm very hyped!! I love the Pokémon Mystery Dungeon series, and I'm really hoping it'll be better (and longer) than Gates to Infinity.

It's out today! Got it, and it's great so far; i'm a Riolu (calling myself Undyne) and my partner's a Snivy (Lyndis (After Lyn from Fire Emblem)). It's a really fun game so far, worth the hype.

Also Story and OST is god tier as usual. Better than GTI by far.

Holy banana, it's garbage.

-The graphics are too saturated, I can't see anything

-The mini-map is pretty rubbish, I keep getting lost

-Your partner is a Naruto copy

-japanese school anime cliché (And I hate anime)

-I can already see that this game is aimed toward childrens

-controls are rubbish

-They still kept the dem 5 damage cap on the neutral attack (A)

-You start with too many moves (I mean, my Charmander tried to learn Ember, but it wasn't worth it because I had a better fire type move)

-The menu is confusing

-The sprites are not really great either, but it's better than the Charizard sprite in Blue/Red lol. Still not good

-I keep forgetting to press B when I back up, pushing my partner around, and it drains my belly. They could have reversed it, like press b to push.

-The music is pretty bad so far too :( One of the best features from these games...

And I only reached the School Forest so far, so I still have hopes that it gets better... It's better than Gates to Infinishit tho, which is great, but it won't reach Rescue/Explorer's greatness. I guess my favorite series officialy ended here... gg ;_;

I would have got it if it came out yesterday, it doesn't come out here in Europe until late February and i don't think i'll be getting it right away because  Digimon Story CyberSlueth, Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm 4 and Megadimension Neptunia V2  are all coming out in the same month this comes out. I might get in March or April, I liked the other ones but i prefer the mainline Pokemon games where you're the trainer instead.

I have a question for anybody that has it and played Gates to Infinity. Are those weird angles better?
I miss the old MD games..
Gates to Infinity was horrible, the angles were weird and the colors are mushed together..
NOT a 3D game IMO.

They fixed the angles so it's less zoomed in, so it looks like previous PMD games (not top-down, but not really zoomed in). The colors look fine from what I can see.

You are literally at the third dungeon in the game. There is no plot right now. In Explorers, was there ANY plot to speak of besides the opening on the third dungeon? I'm on Chapter 14 and the plot doesn't look to be little kiddish from where i'm standing.

I like the mini-map, they disn't change it at all from Explorers, or GTI, or Rescuers, so I don't see the problem. The graphics/sprites are very pretty from what I can see, and I really love the OST. God, my most recent plot boss had god tier music. Also, in regards to OST, you're at the third dungeon. It's like judging PMD:S's music using only Beach Cave, Drenched Bluff, Town, Wigglytuff's Guild, Generic Boss (you haven't even had that yet) and Waterfall Cave. I will agree the pushing is annoying, I always push when I want to switch. The menu takes a bit getting used to; the Alliance and Move Selection buttons are far too similar. Neutral attacks being gone is rather annoying, but I can live. I personally like the controls a lot better than Explorers, to be honest.

Tl;dr: You're at the third dungeon in the game. Isn't it too early to review a game? It's like going through Rescuers and only playing 3 dungeons and saying the plot is awful, and that the music is awful. You've only seen a fraction of the OST, plot and gameplay.

I've been replaying Mystery Dungeon Blue Rescue Team lately to see if this is a game I would like...

I'm really good at dungeon rpgs! I really want this! Its $10 over my personal price limit, so I think I'll wait for Christmas...

*is probably going to spend the $10 on Etrian Odyssey

Because i'm far into the game, i'm just going to list everything that has changed so far in regards to gameplay. I'm not talking about the plot.

- Recruiting's different; you complete missions and the Pokemon who you completed the mission for gets recruited. If it's an outlaw/rescue/etc mission, you also recruit the rescuee/outlaw mission. This means that in order to recruit all 700-something characters, you will need to do a LOT of missions. Also, some plot-related characters are recruited as the story goes. This also means only 1 Pokemon of each type (there are exceptions like Unown, Pyroar, and Combee) can be recruited.

- You're unable to nickname recruited Pokemon, besides you and your partner.

- No IQ system.

- Moves power up as you use them; there's different levels. For example, since my partner, Snivy, loves to spam Energy Ball, it's Level 8 or something. I still have Vacuum Wave (it's a reliable fighting-type ranged move) after all of these levels, and it's Level 7 or something. This affects all Pokemon; say Virizion gets Leaf Blade to Level 3. All Pokemon who have Leaf Blade will have Level 3 leaf blades. The move levels increase power, accuracy, and most importantly, PP.

- Moves miss a LOT in this game. I don't know why. It's not uncommon for 5 different moves to miss in a row, even if it has great accuracy. Ironically, Focus Blast never seems to miss for me.

- You can only have 3 Pokemon at a time, unless you have escort missions, in which the escortee will be the 4th member. You can have a lot of guest characters at a time; this means you can have multiple escort missions at a time.

- The (Sky) Jukebox makes a return, and there are a lot of great tracks on there.

- Wonder Mail and Pelipper Island return.

- Hunger's back! ...not with a vengeance.

- You can change your name, your team's name or your partner's name, at any given time through the menu. This is great because I really regret the name I gave to my Skitty in my first Sky playthrough.

- Difficulty is amped up; enemies are more powerful and you're more weak.

- Money is more difficult to get because you don't always get rewards. However, to balance this, prices in the shop are much cheaper.

- Tiny Reviver Seeds (A type of reviver seed that doesn't restore your belly and pp upon use) are (un)commonly found in dungeons instead of rarely being found in dungeons, and god knows you'll need them.

- A new gimmick called an 'Alliance' is here; it's the new linking moves. You select one move per party member to use on one enemy, you activate it, and then you all use up your turn to gang up on the enemy with your moves. They're all powered up during an alliance, but the accuracy is decreased. Protip; no matter how much of a good idea it sounds like; don't use Focus Blast in an Alliance. It will never hit. Oh yeah, Alliances decrease hunger, and are great against bosses.

- Neutral attacks will always do 5 damage.

- If you walk towards an ally, you'll push them to an adjacent tile instead of switching. This decreases 1 belly point. It's good for pushing your allies into a monster house to assist you. If you want to switch, walk towards an ally while holding B.

- All held items are gone. Except things called Looplets. Looplets give bonuses to you off the bat; such as not being affected by weather, raising attack, more exp, etc. They also have slots that can hold Emeras; little jewel things you can commonly find in dungeons that give bonuses like attack up, you can attack twice in a turn, higher crit chance, better accuracy in an alliance, you know where enemies are, etc. You get them in dungeons and put them on the Looplet for bonuses. Better Looplets have better slots. But Emeras do disappear after the dungeon's over.

- There are different 'continents' with towns, and some of these continents are based off of previous games. Each continent/town has its own dungeons, missions, characters, etc. The difficulty is altered based on these continents; for example, the Water Continent (one you start on) is easier than the Mist Continent (a continent later on). You can travel between them via Lapras.

- You can see cameos of people from past games; for example, I met Corpish from sky, Persian from Rescuers, Hydreigon from GTI, etc. There are so many references, and I really appreciate it.

- You can't save in the rest stops in plot important/long dungeons, but you can save using this thing called a Progress Device. They're useful for saving right before the boss.

- Deposit Box is back, functioning as the bank and storage.

- Blast Seeds do 100 damage instead of 20.

- There are these things called Wands; basically stackable orbs that affect one enemy. Examples are Slumber Wand, Confuse Wand, Warp Wand, etc. GREAT tools for bosses and outlaws, they've saved my butt more than one time. They're also pretty common and damn useful because they can stack.

And that's pretty much everything that's changed.

I loved playing Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Darkness. I never played Gates to Infinity, but hearing about this game I wasn't sure if I was going to pick it up or not. Seeing a couple gameplay videos, the game got me interested and I might pick it up sometime this week coming up.

I went further, still garbage. But yea, you are right, maybe it was too early - I'll review this when I finish, if I can get that motivation. But still, most of my points above still stand.

Another thing: They kinda changed the gameplay regarding the "difficulty" I'd say... in Rescue/Explorers, you could deal tons of damage, easily 2 hit ko any pokemon, but while you were powerful, you could get anihilated easily too. In this new one... well... I guess they kinda wanted to make it more like those main pokemon games battles or something. It takes ages to kill anything, same thing for them, and your moves keep missing. It's just so annoying, I want to reach the stairs geez. Also, pokemons seems to be less common to compensate. But well, just rack up on oran berries and you're fine, easy as that.

Is this game only for that newer DS?

It's playable on all 2/3DS systems if you're asking us. I had a friend who asked me that same question and I gave her the same answer

The game is a lot tougher than the previous games. It's hard to make money and grind levels.

Oh, okay. Good.

I only own a 3DS and I wanted to be sure that this game worked on it!
