Does anyone else not like Rainbow Dash and why, if so..? >.<

I think Rainbow Dash is alright but I always felt like she possibly my least favorite. She was a bit too cocky and full of herself to me. >.< But I still like her as a character at the most. Does anyone else feel this way? I feel really alone in the fandom when I say I don't have a favoritism towards her. >.< (This post in no way is meant to be rude and I just wanted to know other's opinions on the topic)

To answer the question: She probably has some traits that would rub people the wrong way; being too cocky/prideful/has a tendency to overreact/etc.(she's actually my favorite btw)

I feel the exact opposite is true. Nowadays ripping on RD is pretty much "what the cool kids do", and the fandom always tend to flip their shit over pretty much anything she does

There are others who feel the same way. I applaud you for stating that she's your least favorite and not you hate her. As Squall said, some people seem to hate on her nowadays because it's cool.

Being on this forum made me realize more than before how much some Bronies seem to paradoxically love and hate MLPFIM.

I in no way hate her. >.< ;;; She simply isn't a favorite of mine.

I had no clue it was that way. o.o I had always been lead to believe Rainbow Dash was the face of the fandom.

@@ZapFirePrincessTo clarify I didn't mean you, but I've seen numerous members on this forum stating how much they hate something about the show more for what seems to be for the sake of hating it than having a justified reason or very odd reasons.

Rainbow Dash is my favourite pony, actually. I think within the fandom, Dash gets more hate these days because they think that hating the "overrated" thing is cool (which I find so ironic). And as you pointed out in the OP, some hate her for her arrogance. Now while I do understand that arrogance can be obnoxious at times, isn't it kind of a weak reason to hate Dash? Hating her because of only one single flaw that she has?

Yeah, her arrogance may be her most noticeable trait, but there is more to her than just that. She has done many things that I think are admirable, like proving the Sonic Rainboom exists, or getting a spot in both the Wonderbolts Academy and the Wonderbolts Reserve. Her tenacity and her loyalty to both her goals and her friends is what I find most appealing to her.

Not that I dislike your opinion, @ZapFirePrincess. If Dash is your least favourite, then I won't stop you. At least you see more in her, considering that you like most of her personality. ;)

I believe I may be going on an old belief now that I realize it. When I first was introduced to the fandom a long time ago, I remember Rainbow Dash being the most popular one that was glorified in a way. Although it seems things have swapped out and she's the "cool thing to hate." Which is rather sad. There's good in every character and they all have well rounded personalities with each having a quirk or two. Rainbow Dash might just be more on the devious side of things compared to the others from a far away perspective.  :rarity:

I don't really like her. There have been times that I have, but Tanks for the Memories made me dislike her again. How she got away with pretty much everything (unlike Twilight did in Lesson Zero). it seemed really unfair. I find her character to be a bit cocky one and I don't like her often selfish behavior. However, I got to admit, that she is an awful lot like my best friend, who is not a brony (but he took the pony personality test and even got RD as a result, like I knew he would :P^_^

I used not to like RD so much, but she has been kinda growing on me lately. First I saw her as one of those cool kid stereotypes that are popular at school and those, but as the time passed and when  I got more familiar with her character I saw that there is more than that.  Tanks for the memories episode wrote her name on one of my favorite ponies, it was an amazing characterization in my opinion and it really opened my eyes on her character.

I think her being a mascot of our fandom is what irks me the most about her. The character itself is a bit bland and stereotypical to me so she just falls a bit short in the fun and humor that I look for in the show. Almost every American Cartoon show has some tomboy girl who is cocky and has a chip on her shoulder. No offense to the RD fans, I know you have your reasons why you like her.

While the OP wasn't unkind, I do tire of seeing this sort of topic.  I don't see the point to uniting in the dislike (much less "hate") of a pony who's a major and inextricable part of MLP:FIM.  I'm using this as an opportunity to express my own feelings; it's not even necessarily aimed at the OP (who, again, wasn't being hateful).

Broners complain about Rainbow's cockiness, and I've begun to perceive that as a sort of jealousy.  Rainbow possesses something a lot of Broners sorely lack: Self-confidence.  Rather than admiring her for it, they seemingly resent her because of it.  They will also nonsensically draw parallels between Rainbow and human jocks; essentially pigeonholing her into an irrelevant stereotype.  Rainbow isn't a jock; the woman can fly.  She's closer to a jet than she is to a football player.  Nor is she a (making the leap some Broners make) bully; she's the anti-bully.  A hero.  Loyal and protective.

Rainbow Dash is more complex than most care to see.  A Daring Do aficionado.  A loving friend.  A "tough girl" with a vulnerable side.

I feel the exact opposite is true. Nowadays ripping on RD is pretty much "what the cool kids do", and the fandom always tend to flip their shit over pretty much anything she does

I find that to be a shallow perception.  Not to mention that any of the Mane Six could be likened to a stereotype if one simply ignores the things about them that make them unique.  Detractors also generally ignore any and all development that Rainbow has seen during the series.  Even referring to her as the "mascot of our fandom" sounds like an entry-level diss.  And I don't understand how such an enthusiastic, vibrant, and energetic pony - with a need for speed, love of adventure, and taste for aerial daredevilry - can possibly be mistaken for "bland."

Honestly I don't really care about her development, I don't keep an eye on her since she failed to make me laugh. I don't find any insight in a show about colorful ponies to be honest, I'm here for the humor because that is what brought me here in the first place. Any kind of adventure I want to see I get  more of that out of anime. I feel there's a lot of negativity in your post, I was only stating my opinion there is no need to raise your ire. I can't see Rainbow Dash the way you do, accept that. And I would appreciate it if your "opinions" weren't attacks on my personal perception or what have you think about what I find is a piece of art or not. Do you see me making opinions against fans of RD, I already know that's a flame war and I prefer not to ignite it. Don't take it so seriously for a character in a show.

You didn't raise my ire; nor did I "attack."  I expressed a point and an opinion of my own, and I provided reasons as to why I disagreed with your perception.  This is how conversation typically works.

Yes but calling it shallow perception is an attack. That calling another inferior or a bigot. You could have simply stated your opinion without need to call it shallow.

If you know how society works that is a call for war.

Relax. xD  I wasn't launching a flame war.  And said wars are generally characterized by name calling; something I didn't resort to.

So you're telling me you can't see when someone is calling you out unless they give you an insult from the book of A words and F words?

You either exaggerate or misunderstand me.  Shallow as in superficial; your perception of Rainbow Dash was concerned with only what lie on the surface.  Or with an initial impression; something that you more or less admitted to when you said you hadn't paid her much mind as the series progressed.  If you'd characterize my choice of that one word as an attack, I'd advise you to stay well away from most anywhere else on the internet.

So you're telling me you can't see when someone is calling you out unless they give you an insult from the book of A words and F words?

I'm telling you that neither the words "flame" nor "war" apply here.

What you mentioned is what would make a character bland since you did not mention the flaws, flaws is what makes characters interesting as well :comeatus:

I didn't claim that those were her only qualities lol; nor did I, in naming them, erase her flaws.  Nor do I agree that being enthusiastic and energetic somehow make an individual uninteresting.  Are you somehow equating the things I listed with perfection?

Superficial is still an insult either way. I did not exaggerate or misunderstand you I heard you loud and clear. And wait I admitted to... what is this courtroom drama? You are the one outlining this as a flame war than you tell me flame and war does not apply here?

I'm sure you picked up some obscure way of presenting your manners from the internet brother. I would say maybe you should stay away from places like that because you know we can have a proper conversation without conflict.

So okay enlighten me what is it that I didn't delve deep enough for Rainbow Dash? Because I can already tell my answer is going to be whatever I already told you on the quote I gave you before.

Omg yes.  Seems like if something becomes too popular, you gotta hate it to be cool.  E.g. Frozen.

Being on this forum made me realize more than before how much some Bronies seem to paradoxically love and hate MLPFIM.

I know, right?  I can understand not liking a show altogether, but I don't really understand how many bronies can be so...well, passionate in their hatred of characters, while still claiming to love the show.  But, you know, everyone is entitled to hate whatever character they want.  It just bums me out sometimes when I feel like this forum is turning into the The Mane 6 Must Die Club.  If someone just hates the show altogether , that doesn't bother me (as long as they don't hate someone for liking it.)  But it gets on my nerves when "fans" seem to do nothing but trash every character.

I love RD to pieces, just like all of the six, but objectively speaking, I do wish she'd show a bit more professionalism here and there, like Rarity for example.  We see Rarity filling orders for presitgeous clients all the time.  AJ manages the farm, and takes that job very seriously.  We even see Pinkie baking at the Corner fairly often.  It would go a long way if we had a scene here and there of RD directing her weather team (instead of sabotaging them).  That is her job, right?  But we never see her do it.  She's like the Cosmo Kramer of the group.  I know--I sound hypocritical.  I do enjoy analyzing and picking apart, but remember my thesis statement: I still love her to pieces.

That goes, then, to your opinion of what qualifies as "bland."  Do you find adventure and activity bland?  Need I always mention the flaws alongside either the virtues or what I personally find compelling?

What do you find interesting?  So help me if you say "a tragic past and a dark secret..."  xD
