What's so bad about 'Slice of Life'?

I don't think of it as pandering to the Bronies. I think of it as a GIFT to the Bronies. Frankly, the episode shouldn't even be taken as canon. Think of it as the "Hot Spring" episode found in many anime. It was purely just for fun, and did nothing to advance any plot lines. I don't see why so many feel the need to rip it apart. I thought it was mighty nice of the writers and animators to give us this 22 minute treat. I am not talking about any specific Bronie or member of this site when I say the following.

 

It just strikes me as odd that for the past few years many Bronies insisted the show should cater to them, and then call it "Pandering" when one episode is devoted entirely to the adult fandom. Why not just accept the gift in the spirit it was given?

Except those beach and hot spring episodes are canon  , they just don't advance the plot. From an objective standpoint, it was far from the best episode ever, but from a more sentimental standpoint, it should be a gem with all appreciation well deserving, as the writers took a spot off to thank and have a laugh to us, and despite that not all of us follows nor care about fanon (myself included), it should be appreciated the effort the writers made regardless. I loved the unexpected agent Sweetie Drops though

Even though I liked the episode, I would have preferred to have an episode focusing on any or multiple of  supporting characters who don't get a lot of attention such as Zecora, Princess Celestia, Mr and Mrs. Cake, Cherilee, Big Macintosh (thankfully he finally got an episode this season), and others.

I would have rather seen any episode focusing on actual characters who deserve a chance to shine, than have an episode focusing on background ponies.

Heck, Fluttershy deserved an episode over the background characters seeing as she had only one solo episode that season and had to share her other episode with Twilight, and she generally didn't get to a lot in season 5.

 It was bad because as one who thinks Depry gets way to much attention (Yeah call the police, straight out of Toufort I get it!) It was kind of like it Doesn't matter how good the plot is, If they put in a Twicane or DJpon3 its the best Ep. ever It was a boring plot at best an eye-roller at worst. Bon-Bon a spy? sure.(I see Wright through you you little changeling) Derpy & muffins, NO God NO! Muffins eating muffins? Ok. Its just an excuse that's what it is.

Well, I for one don't understand why you can't criticise a gift. It's still a horrible episode regardless of it being a gift or not.

Howdy all!

 

I thought the episode was fantastic.

 

Dunno what the big whoop dee doo about it.

 

Only disappointed that Vinyl Scratch didnt talk.

 

Im surprised the producers didnt get Rena Ankwe to voice the DJ Pony.

Rena is a DJ herself she goes by DJ Lady Lane & voices Sapphire Shores as well.

Maybe in Season 6 she will we'll see.
