if you want to, yes, but I would strongly suggest no. The old my little pony is nothing like the one we know and love today. And the characters are so ugly and creepy!

You could if you want, but don't get your hopes up as if you do watch it you will see very quickly why it is considered by many to be the worst MLP generation. If I were to recommend watching any previous gen it would be G1.

G3 is pretty damn good... any review or rant you see about it is usually overly exaggerated... don't listen to what the others say you should watch it for yourself and decide whether its good or not...

It has a decent amount of "so bad it's good" moments, but they're too few and far between, and don't exactly reach the heights of The Room. Everything else is just the groan-inducing kind of bad.

 

I guess one reason to watch it would be to make yourself appreciate FiM more.

G3 is solid. Generations before that I really don't like, but 3 is decent. Definitely give it a shot. The art, voicing and stuff is all quite nice and its got a few characters I really wished they'd carried over into G4. Still, FiM is undeniably better in every way, it's just worth a look.

If you're curious about watching it, then just watch it. There are a lot of similarities between G3 and G4, just that it's usually done better in G4. At worst it's dull and overly sugary. It's not as bad as it's made out to be.

I've gone and watched all the previous generations animations, out of curiousity. Although there were a good number of cringeworthy bits here and there, it was mostly harmless. Heck, if you include the MLP:FiM live-action thing of a couple of years back there's stuff in G4 that is considerably worse than G1-G3.5.

 

G3 was difficult for me to watch though, but for a different reason than what many would say. G3 wasn't a series. Each animation was either a 'stand alone movie' or was packaged on a mini-DVD/VCD/whatever along with a relevant toyset. So they're not exactly consistent with each other. Characters aren't kept from one to another, something considered astonishing in one is commonplace in another, exactly what order they happen in is confusing, and so on. It doesn't help that part-way through G3 there was a marketing shift in the toy line and they dropped everything but seven set characters. There was also an artstyle shift, but that didn't occur until some time after that. So exactly when G3.5 starts is kinda confusing. And then there's the webcast episodes... we don't speak of the webcast episodes.

I'd try out a ep to see why people hate it so much but its kinda like if you Satan and rainbows into a blender,  add in some way to much little plot and bright colors to kill and melt you brain,  turn it on high mix and than throw it onto TV.....

As crazy as it sounds I would recommend watching all previous shows once, though not more than once. Each one shows the origin of certain ideas or at least basic concepts that were later incorporated into FiM. I recommend viewing them all through that lens. G3 is my least favourite, especially as it gets into Core 7 and though I never did watch G3.5, I got the sense that it's even worse. However, I do think all series up to the beginning half of G3 have at least some merit (though not enough to want to rewatch any of it).

all else fails do a reaction vid blind on it to see how many jokes you can make over how bad G3 was. im doing that with a casset G3 tape a buddy of mine gave to me as a joke of shame im now doing it to spite him  that's if I can get the proper recording equipment. :okiedokielokie:
