Paper Mario. I rented that game so many times my parents bought it for me. I loved the graphics styling and the open world aspect. It wasn't like super Mario world where there was a level select screen or like Mario 64 where there was a level hub, the world was seamlessly connected together. I love games that create worlds like this.

For platformers though, it would have to be super Mario world as my 2D favorite and super Mario sunshine as my 3D favorite.

My personal favorite would probably be Super Paper Mario. It's a pretty underrated little gem. I really like the mixture between RPG elements and platforming. Plus, it had a pretty decent plot. Probably my second favorite would be Super Mario World. In my opinion, it is the best traditional 2D Mario game ever.

I'd say Super Mario World for my favorite 2D game.

I don't have a favorite 3d mario game, I've only played Super Mario 64 and hated it.

Even though I was born this millennium I still have an ever lasting love for Super Mario World and Super Mario 64.

I'm pretty sure everyone on this website was born this millennium XD

Super Mario Land on the GameBoy & Super Mario World 2 : Yoshi's Island on the Super NES.

Classic games.

Ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooh, difficult choices! This thread is like, gaming torture. :P

Okay, I will split it into two categories, 2D and 3D.

Favorite 2D Mario game is easy:

Super Mario Maker is basically a 2D Mario game paradise. WIth the sheer amount of tools, the 4 different styles, the infinite amount of levels, the fun Miiverse content, this game is just pure bliss. It is the game that made me buy a Wii U, it was totally worth it. :3

Favorite 3D Mario game, that is a tougher choice but...

This is a typical choice maybe, but this game is sooooooooo hard to beat. I have yet to fully experience Mario Galaxy 2 so there is that but Super Mario 64 is engrained into my subconscious. My childhood would not be the same without it. It truly was a masterpiece and still is.

Super Mario Bros. 3 is the best Jump n Run in the history of video games.

Everything in this world is very imaginative and the levels are challenging but not too challenging too suck the fun out of it. It's incredibly well crafted
