your thoughts on starlight glimmer?

So what are your theories on starlight glimmer for the season finale? It seems to be established she will return and it will involve time travel.

It seems the fact that she came from the future and is cadence's daughter has been debunked as she does not know who twilight or the mane 6 are..

but what if.. she is not from the future, but from the PAST?

or an alternate dimension where cutie marks don't exist?

or is from a place where she needed more power and thus collected cutie marks to bolster her own skills, kind of like tireks absorbing magic to get stronger, but starlight taking cutie marks to absorb their abilities? What if she is actually a protagonist and is using this as a way to fight some threat?

and she clearly was aware of twilight, when she was spying on her in the restaurant.. so perhaps she was sent to find a way to absorb alicorn magic - using the other ponies as bait, knowing twilight would eventually come to the village?

Also can we take the wormholes made during the third movie to observe anything about the season finale? It seems to be hinted that that "issue" twilight was dealing with happened during this time at the end of the movie.. and we do see twilight flying by in one of the wormholes..

Nah. I think she's just an egomaniac who wants to control everyone and make them adore her. Her adoration for 'equality' probably stems from self-esteem issues with a twisted world view. There could be some explanation of her back story and why she's like that but we'll have to wait and see.

Well, as soon as I heard her name, I figured that she must be a foil for Twilight. Really, it's not hard to see it coming. At least Starlight Glimmer is a pretty cool name.

Although, right now, I'm not that interested in this character to be honest. Her actions in The Cutie Map are certainly unique and the fact that she interrupts Twilight's friendship speech is a interesting choice but that's about it.

What do we know about her aside from her personality of welcoming-at-first-then-suddenly-evil-and-grumpy? Not that much, actually. She obviously has something against cutie marks in which I can kinda see where she's coming from - having a specific cutie marks kinda locks you into doing what the cutie mark says. This is shown when the equal sign cutie mark prevented the Mane 6 from being their usual selves. That's interesting.

Maybe there's some envy, too? Being envious of someone's talent/cutie mark shouldn't be too out of the ordinary. Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon used to bully the CMC all the time about them not having cutie marks so I can't see it not being ordinary.

But that's not exactly related to Starlight now, am I right? She favors equality which is the extent her personality goes to. It's not very deep. I hope they can do more with this character in the season finale since she's gonna appear in it.

Wait, wait, wait! If she has a spell that can change time, that means that she can prevent Twilight from ever meeting Applejack and the others which would mean that Twilight would have either searched endlessly in Ponyville or stayed in Canterlot which could lead to Twilight forming a alternate Mane 6 with her Canterlot friends in order to get the Elements of Harmony again. Of course, that would probably not work due to it not being the main Mane 6. That problem could then lead into the next episode where she would be stuck in a situation she doesn't know how to handle.

In that case, Starlight's spell would be perfect. It would change everything and I can see them leaving Season 5 on a cliffhanger because this is a very hard situation to get out off without resorting to Deus Ex Machina which most likely will be the way out. If they do that, then my point would be even stronger since that would mean that the writers wrote themselves into a corner with no way out. This is the big problem with complex plots with hard situations because they're very hard to write well. This was the problem with A Canterlot Wedding in that Queen Chrysalis was actually a very great villain but lost to Deus Ex Machina,

...oh, my, I went a little overboard there. Geez, I take this show way too seriously...and I just stole Firebrand's (from FOB Equestria) ending line. Dang it...

'cause it's only knock and knowall but I like it...

I also think that this is the case with Starlight Glimmer.  The theory that she is Cadance & Shining's daughter from the future, plus a few others that I've heard, are all pretty spectacular.  But when it comes to story material for MLP, the fandom goes to much greater depths than the writhers of the actual show.  Older fans willingly construct these elaborate plotlines mostly to please themselves while the show's writers come up with stories suited to MLP's (intended) target audience; young girls.

Hence I think that Starlight Glimmer isn't going to turn out to have any more (or any less) depth of character than any other villain we've yet seen in the show.  And the season finale will likely be clever in its own way but fail to live up to a lot of the hype that the fandom has generated regarding it.

Without Twilight's humility and introspection, as well as a willingness to learn, she might have become someone more like Starlight, someone who is ruled by Pride and Delusion, an idealist who whose ideals don't work in reality since she needs to ignore them to make them work even in part, this is what I see in Starlight Glimmer.   Her idea is doing terrible damage to those she's persuaded to practice it, but she can't even see it... because she's deceived herself, so completely that she isn't willing to see the falsehoods within her own practices.

I like Starlight :)

She is sassy and overall an interesting character.

She's quite an interesting villain.

To be honest I have no idea what's going to happen in this episode, but it would be cool if she's working for Tereck since he is locked away and he us using starlight to get all the power and no one knows and starlight gets enough power to release Tereck and we seethe return of him. Unlikely villans duo, but you never know ;D

Maybe I'm just new to this whole Redeemed thing, I was wondering: I don't think Starlight gonna be redeemed because she might be a recurring villain. Won't you say so?

If she wasn't being redeemed, then what's with the stuff like the Gameloft game saying she learns a valuable lesson in friendship, the season 5 poster that has Twilight smiling friendly at what looks like Starlight in silhouette, and a book saying that Starlight is Twilight's "pupil"? Where's any indication that she'll continue being a villain past the season 5 finale?
