Just letting you know I moved this to Media Discussion as it didn't deal with MLP or the brony community. I also edited the topic title so that it is more descriptive of the topic.

Thanks. :)

I'm actually not that surprised. Even if Gravity Falls is a fantastic series, it really didn't do well thanks to network and merchandise issues. But really, I'd rather see this series have a satisfying ending instead of seeing it go on to the point where it gets stale.

This is not surprising really, the show's story is meant to take place across a single summer and it's been ramping up to the climax of the story for the last several episodes.  And I'm very OK with it.

Looking it up, it looks like following Weirdmageddon II on Monday there will be a 1-hour episode (no air date for that yet) to cap the series.  That sounds perfect to me.  We'll get the conclusion to the current plot and we'll have some extra time for the story's resolution.

Actually:

IHirsch went to lengths in his post to say that the tale of Mabel and Dipper Pines and their bizarre summer at the Gravity Falls Mystery Shack was being finished on his own terms, and that Disney XD hadn’t canceled the series. “This is 100% my choice, and its something I decided on a very long time ago,” he wrote. “I always designedGravity Falls to be a finite series about one epic summer—a series with a beginning, middle, and end.”

Hirsch also said that the decision to keep the show’s pending conclusion a secret wasn’t his, and that he was asked to keep quiet by people hoping that he’d change his mind. (The critically lauded show landed Disney XD’s highest-ever ratings with its mid-season premiere earlier this year.)

All I want now is a complete series blu-ray boxset.

I was partially predicting that. The Weirdmageddon multi part episode was looking like a series finale. It's at the end of the summer and...

It's right after Dipper and Mabel had a rather impressive character arc

So, while it's sad to see it go, it will still live on as an awesome cartoon and one of the best ones of the decade.

I'm actually really happy with his choice. He obviously knew what he was doing since episode one and how the final will be. Why would we want him to continue something that's finished? His story is complete, and I'm going to miss Gravity Falls. But in the end, I'm happy with this choice.

I kinda expected this. After all, that Summer can't last forever. :P

I really enjoyed the series, eventhough i only started to actively watch it in 2014. It was the only cartoon show besides MLP that i actively watched.

I am really excited for the big finale though and who knows what Hirsch is planning in the future.

Gravity Falls is probably one of the best shows of the 2010's (despite me not getting into it until around March this year), so it's going to be sad to see it go, but on the bright side, it won't end up like shows like Spongebob, Family Guy and The Simpsons at least.

Plus, after all, the story did start feel like it was going to conclude anyway, and especially with a show like this, it would be hard to keep it going for so long, so yeah.

Hey, but at least Disney has Star vs. the Forces of Evil. That show is becoming very good.

They also have Wander Over Yonder.

You should check it out, it's fantastic.

But yeah I heard about Gravity Falls. I'm quite sad. I'm glad it's at least getting some closure, since a lot of shows I've loved in my life have been canceled without a true ending. But at the same time I hope one day we'll get to spend another summer with the Pines Family.

Well, I guess it's better it ends on a high note than if it were to continue and go through seasonal rot and end up crappy.

Oh? You mean it's meant to be taken seriously? Oops.

Yeah.

Though I was hoping there was going to be Weirdmageddon Part 2, 3, 4.... oh well. The show will definitely be sung for ages to come since it is going to keep it's face till it's end. Being only 2 seasons it will leave a longer memory of remembrance.

Avatar the Last Airbender lasted about 3 seasons and is still one of the greatest for example.

It's so very upsetting to hear, seeing as Gravity Falls is one of the most popular cartoons for a great reason. :(  It's been a wild ride, but, honestly, I'd rather the series end now on a high note than carry on for much too long and end up as a show that just gets progressively worse. And it will always still be there for the fans. There may be no more new episodes after the finale, but it's not being cancelled as far I know.  :squee:

It's a bittersweet feeling, really; one of my favourite two shows of all time (the other being MLP) will be ending soon enough. But this series finale will stand out in the crowd, and I have a great feeling that it will be an hour-long special to top all other hour-long specials!!  :pinkie:

I haven't (yet) been a fan / follower of Gravity Falls, but it seems to me that if it ends, as long it does so while it's still fresh and good, and hasn't become a dead horse to flog, it will be a good thing in the long run. Telling your story and then ending is preferable to continuing on with filler plots, getting worse and worse until you finally just die an ignoble death, killed by the ratings and hankering for the old "glory days". Take the Calvin and Hobbes approach, not the Garfield approach, I say.

I have mixed feelings on this. For one side, while it's great to see the show ending on a high note and a satisfying story arc, it's kinda sad to see it go so soon, for an animated series, it's one of the best programs dealing with paranormal and horror. Anyway, summer doesn't last forever and the show handles it nicely, plus the fandom is big and greatly contributes to the awesome content.

I'm sure the finale won't disappoint.

With the way the show was going, I had a feeling it was ending soon.

The Weirdmageddon multi part episodes had series finale written all over it.

Plus the show was written to last over the one summer and seeing how in the show their is only one week left of summer, it makes sense for it to be ending.

I am a little bit sad that it is ending, but I am just glad that we even had a Gravity Falls in the first place.

It will always hold a special place in my heart as one of the best cartoons of this decade and heck even one of my all time favorite cartoons period.

It was one of Disney AND Disney XD's most successful shows. This is a bold move to let Alex Hirsch end it here.

GF is my favorite cartoon on air (and one of my favorites ever). Seeing it end is.....bittersweet. I don't like to see it going now, but I know after it ends, I'll be glad they decided this was it. Why? It will have run its course and not last longer than it needs to. It will have an amazing legacy. It will be remembered.

Shows like Spongebob and MLP are not going to be remembered very fondly if they're milked out.
