technology Final call: Windows 10 (it spies on me?)

So it's December, it's snowing and that was the wake up call that I could change to Windows 10 now or have to pay for it afterwards.

I have thoughts on changing it but I've always been hesitant about it since anything that's been released so soon right after Windows 8.1 could end up faulty if one can remember the disaster that was known as Windows Vista.

From this article I became a bit less enthusiastic about making the change.

So... is it a good idea to swap to Windows 10? How is it any different than Windows 8.1? I'm mostly seeing this as how it effects gaming.

Its like win 8 but a lot more desktop like because a lot of users did't like how 8 was, and 10 is going to be the last windows it's just updates after that, so you're going to have to use it at some point.

If you're happy with your current operating system, don't bother. You'll eventually use it if you ever buy a new PC, but for now, enjoy the fact that you're on a stable and complete working environment with only one control panel instead of two (for some reason) and that you can pick and install OS updates as you darn well please.

There can be some problems with 10, so if you do switch, make sure not to get rid of your other OS's files so that you can revert if you need to.  That said, Windows 10 has been AMAZING for me personally.  Yeah some things don't make sense (like the 2 control panels), but I like that it doesn't have the "start screen," that there is a start menu, and I like Cortana, too.  Sometimes when my computer is having an issue that's slowing it way down, using the voice command to get Cortana to open the control panel or something comes in very handy.  Also I used to have trouble on Windows 8 and 8.1 with the charms bar constantly popping out when I'd be typing and just start opening random apps of its own accord, so I'm glad to not have that issue anymore.  Microsoft Edge is nice too, helluva lot better than Internet Explorer, although, of course sometimes Firefox/Chrome/Opera/etc. is still preferable.

In general, I like 10.  To be honest, I sometimes forget how to even use 7/Vista/etc. since it's been so long and 10 is a LOT better than 8/8.1 imo.  But, it's not for everyone, and some computers have serious issues because of the update... some have driver issues as a result, some just crash entirely, etc.; so it's a risk for sure, and you wanna be positive you can revert should anything go awry if you do decide to go for it.

As for the concerns about spying; I read the clause in question and to be honest, many services these days do the same thing, and if you're using an outlook email address Microsoft already has access to your email anyway (I personally have 2 outlook email addresses).  Considering you can opt out of the stuff, I really don't see an issue with it as it sounds like they're mostly doing that to protect themselves should you do anything illegal.

I have two laptops now - one with Win 8 and one with 10. It was really easy to disable what I didn't want ^^ and I don't have anything that would be incompatible with 10 right now so I've had no problems with that. It's a LOT better than Win 8 in terms of getting rid of some of the annoying features.

I once upgraded to windows 10, but then after some weeks I retrograded to Windows 7, for the reason that I though it was still unstable after having a problem with uninstalling something, leading up the computer to freeze completely. My reaction was ''NOPE'', and then instantly retrograded to windows 7. I was too afraid to cause other problems and damage my system in the worst of cases.

I have Win10 on both my desktop and laptop, and had no problems what so ever. The only problem I ever had, was not Microsoft's fault, but Netgear's fault, which they corrected. The only problems I'm seeing people have, has nothing to do with Windows 10, and more to do with their hardware or something that was wrong with their PC in general. And the freezing issue, has nothing to do with Windows 10, it's third party drivers, which is what happened with my Netgear wireless adapter, that they fixed.

And no, Windows 10 doesn't spy on you. It doesn't do anything that hasn't been going on in an operating system, since Apple started it in the IMACs back in 98. The system keeps track of your common search terms and file names, so make it easier to find shit faster. It's not recording your voice, reading your keystrokes, reading your brain, and watching your porn.

Feel free to add me on steam if you want to play something. Also don't be afraid to message and talk to me. I've had bad luck when I start a conversation, so I more then likely won't start one.
