... Is basically how the fandom will be like when MLP goes off the air except more empty.

/sadface its true.

the brony fandom has been dying bit by bit ever since S3... damn, I remember when pony sites were freaking jumping all the time :(

even comparing S4 to S5 traffic is insane.

To be honest I'm starting to lose interest in it. Although I'm not sure if that's because of the fandom or just me getting bored of it.

No matter how hard I try these ponies will simply never leave me.

Every fandom has that point where it begins to die out as it slowly loses the ability to capture our attention. I personally think that even after the show ends, the Brony community will thrive for a while after. I mean, this show has brought me out of depressive states of mind many, many times. I'm sure others can say the same about how much the show changed their lives.

I don't know.

You look at things like star trek and Transformers, and the fanbase sticks around because they keep producing more good content and reexploring the universe or rebooting it.

I'm not sure hasbro is going to do that, and the brony fandom just seems to be shrinking massively. Derpibooru is practically dead now; last season and the season before that it would explode with new art for the weeks following a finale. This season? Hell, there's barely a trickle of anything new coming out :(

that does not bode well.

I disagree. I think the brony fandom is still strong as ever, I mean, heck, I see a lot of new users on this forum in particular.

Maybe the fandom will die down a bit after the show ends, but I can't see it fading away completely. With the internet, it will thrive for a long time.

I am a regular user there and I know for a fact that's 100% untrue, I see tons of new art every day, and a lot of impressive stuff, as well. I've seen a lot of art from the finale alone.

Neither me or Unlikeable are saying it will be gone completely it will just be reduced significantly to many people not in the fandom could report it as dead though at the point it can get to. There is no such thing as being gone completely. People seem to be unable to see the grey area in that statement.

Its not like what it was a year ago though. Even if some is still coming out its not the quantity as it was in the past.

A year ago It'd take me quite some time to look through all the new art posted in a day on the site. Now I can click through up to the previous days art in about 5 to 10 minutes.

The fandom not being at it's peak does not mean it is dying. It just means that the insane hype over us is gone away. Remember when bronies were the talk of the internet? Now we aren't, we have been around for a good while and while there are still people who treat us like aliens, we are pretty much becoming completely accepted now. Not as much drama, not as much discussion, so things are pretty tame now. Much more quiet. Doesn't mean the fandom is falling apart or something.

After this show ends, the fandom won't. We know this. The show will live on in a different sort of way. Fan creations, in our discussions, in our theories, extended lore in books and whatnot, even long after the show ends, we aren't going anywhere. This hiatus for example does not bother me one bit. Not even 16-bits! (Ha! Video games) I am just enjoying what we have now and enjoying the community, that won't change after the show ends.

The hiatus is going to be so annoying!

But if I've learned one thing from Gravity Falls is that fan creations don't stop just because a show is on a break.

So while it won't be as active is at was if the show was on air with new episodes, I don't believe there to be any worry for the fandom dying during the hiatus.

I always just continue on going during the hiatus, though I'm always much more happy when there's more ponies.

I was thinking of watching S1-S5, an episode a day, to kill some time. It's been a while since I've watched the first two seasons, to be 100% honest.

If this forum wouldnt exist, i would think the fandom has shrinked massively. I mean, look at the discussion boards about the show on other sites. Almost dead. Some have problems to get three full pages for this season finale. :0

I think the fandom will continue to shrink, unfortunately. People are just slowly losing interest. New members are rarely created due to all the negative things they hear, and older people think this is wrong, while current members are slowly removing themselves because they get bored of it. We're stuck between a rock and a hard place.

Well, I hate to sound negative, but its also possible that these later seasons lack the spark of the early seasons to attract new fans too :P

Honestly, I don't think there's any really good showcase episodes for the mane six like how previous seasons had episodes like Suited for success, dragonshy and sonic rainboom.

It’s too early to tell what the majority will do once G4 is burned and buried. It can get tough since scrappy fan projects can’t keep such a fandom afloat. You’d need to pull an Icefrog and unite many under a single fan-made banner, and judging by the fact that fan artists get constantly pwnd by corporate avocados with c&d, I don’t think we have such a cunning creature in our midst. Mane6 & Lauren are the only ones right now capable of producing pony-like content with lasting effect independently of H-Bro and undisturbed by the state of G4. We’ll need more heroes to rally the herd and lead our people to their destiny.

Now if you’ll excuse me … Caw, caw, caw, caw, caw.

There's going to be no new episodes during it. :maud:

Like, seriously...what else can be said? Why do I keep seeing people talking about the fandom dying and it "wrapping up" because of Jayson Thiessen and Amy Keating Rogers leaving? Things are never as popular as they were during their peak unless given the right spark. People move on to other projects. The show didn't end when Lauren Faust left. People have been talking about the fandom "dying" since 2012. If that was true, wouldn't it be dead by now? Popular toy-promoting shows like MLP do not end until the company that produces the toys decides it's time for the franchise to move on to the next generation. They continue so long as the toy franchise lives.

I am not just saying this while forgetting my bias as a fan who wants the show to continue while it's good, I am also saying this while forgetting my bias as someone who wants to focus on the positive. I'm willing to accept the negative with the positive, but I'm looking at the negativity that's been going around about this hiatus that's started only a week into it, and I'm finding myself honestly not agreeing with it.

Like really, can't we all just wait for our ponies positively?

Fandoms rarely die. The Sherlock Holmes fandom has been around since the 1800's. People will lose interest and activity may slow down but total death would require some major change. The movie may bring about greater interest but Hasbro will probably kill the current generation soon after so they can approach the next generation of little girls with a 5th generation of toys. :squee:

TL;DR: Who knows what the future holds.
