Don't count on that for long. Gamestop is going to stop selling new 360s and PS3s within the next 2 months at most of their stores. Next gen is here. The 360 may resurface as a "retro" console later, but you have to consider the numbers:

35+ Million PS4s are out there now.

19+ Million Xbox Ones are out there now.

12+ Million Wii Us are out there now.

We are looking at over 66 million next gen consoles available. That's enough to where developers are going "okay, there's money to be made here" and those numbers are only growing. I imagine the DX 12 update for the Xbox One will boost their sales and the PS4's major releases are going to boost theirs. Last gen is more or less over, it's just holding on for that last breath, but it'll more than likely breath its last breath this year.

That is incorrect on the DRM statement. The Xbox One does in fact have DRM. It's DRM is identical to the PS4's for digital titles, you need to sign into a primary account that holds the games to play them in order to download them. You can't just go to your friend's house, sign into your Live download a game and remove your live and he can keep playing your game. Your account needs to be linked to the Xbox in order to play the game, it's the same principle with the PS4.

The two consoles DRM is identical.

Plus no DRM means you could copy a game onto another disk and it would work in the system, which it does not. So yes, both consoles have DRM, but it's the most non-intrusive DRM in existence. :P

Well, yeah, THAT makes sense. That is making sure that you actually own the games on that console. If it is on your home Xbox though, there is no DRM. The vast majority of games I have for the system are downloaded and my internet was out for a while one time, no issues.

Yeah the PS4 works like that too. I can play all my digital games offline. After the big "OMG ALWAYS ONLINE SUCKS" fiasco that Origin pulled, game devs have learned people don't like that crap.

People most certainly do(Not a console gamer anymore), however for those that play a lot online staying on the 360 may be problematic if those you play games with are moving on to the One. Bit anecdotal, but my brother had this same issue, couldn't get a One for over 2 years when all of his friends had switched(Less than a year after release) to the One, until this Christmas he has been unable to play with them unless they come over and play couch coop(Or take turns) or he goes to their house.

Doesn't Steam have a DRM on most of its games?I could be wrong there.

Many do and many don't.  Most of what I play does not.  The majority of my Steam library comes from Humble Bundle, which is always DRM-free.  And if the internet is down, you can just enter Steam in offline mode and play your DRM-free games as you please.  So, if the super volcanoes erupt and The Day After Tomorrow happens and the grid goes down, you could just hunker down and play humble bundle games all day with a deep cycle battery.

Super NES

Genesis

Dreamcast

Wii

Wii U

Gamecube

PS1

PS2

PS3

PS4

Xbox

Xbox 360

Xbox One (Still disappointed it wasn't the 480, or 720)

And various emulators on PC, because Ms. Pac-Man is best.

The world of console as we know it is dying.

I highly doubt that, consoles have one distinct advantage the PC will probably never have; ease of use and convenience.

Stick that disc in the console and it'll automatically install and play for you, no worrying about possibly tinkering with the damn thing for hours.

Or not...

How many times have folks had to tinker with their consoles for hours, uninstalling and reinstalling games and dlc and updates when things don't cooperate?

I do love consoles for convenience, but imo, things are beginning to reverse themselves.  In the days of yesteryear, you just popped a cartridge in, no loading screens, no updates, no downloads, no drm, no signing in, no flim flam whatsoever.  Then you'd had old PC games coming on multiple CDs, fraught with compatibility issues (this sound card doesn't work, this game hates your graphics card, wrong .NET framework, etc.)  But now, as consoles get more and more advanced, we're seeing the same kind of problems and inconveniences appear that we had on PCs.  At the same time, Steam, Humble Bundle, and Good Old Games are making PC gaming more convenient than ever.  With those three services, we have every PC game ever made at your fingertips, all with more portability and compatibility than ever before.  Sure, there will still be problems such as graphics driver incompatibilities that you don't see on console, but imo, PC is actually more convenient now than console.

Even though I have a gaming laptop PC and a Wii U for more current games, the Xbox 360 is still relevant to me especially if there are full games on there that I still like to play and finish.

For instance, I've just started AC IV: Black Flag and I still have a long way to go before finishing it before continuing on with the series because of how engaged I get whenever I play stealth-action games like the Assassin's Creed series.

Some of these haven't released yet but definitely worth owning a PS4 for when they do:

Lords of the Fallen

Star Ocean 5

Gravity Rush 2 (with the first being remade for PS4 as well)

Final Fantasy XV

Kingdom Hearts 3

Tales of Zestiria

Fallout 4

Horizon: Zero Dawn

Death's Gambit

Dying Light

Hellblade

Nier Automota

Nioh

A few games worth looking into as well:

Exist Archive

The Forest

Tales of Berseria

For Honor

Resident Evil 2 remake

That's not even to mention all of the games that have versions on both PS4 and PS3. Why not go for the better version anyway and use that as a reason to fuel a PS4 purchase?

Looooooooooooooooooots of games, yo.

Like i said.... i rest my case :)

I'd imagine such problems exist with current consoles is because the eighth generation platforms are trying tooth and nail to deliver that same kind of versatility their PC counterparts has. Otherwise, I get what you mean though.

I don't understand how none of the games I just mentioned could interest you, honestly. lol

And that's just the games I'm interested in. There's at least three or four times that on the PS4.

I'm still playing 360. Most of my friends have upgraded to Xbox One, so it isn't as fun to play online anymore. I have an Xbox One as well, but not a headset.

Additionally, I noticed that there are fewer and fewer pony emblems popping up on Black Ops 2 (I have yet to see any in Black Ops 3).

  • 4 weeks later...

I have mine just because I'm still a huge SSX geek. Despite having gold in every challenge, I still like to compete in world records. I also have banjo tooie that I still need to beat.

Either wise, I don't really need/care for it much anymore.

To be fair, the PlayStation 2 was only officially retired at the start of 2013, 6 years after the PS3 was released and 7 years after the 360.

I'd say both consoles still have a few years left in their lifespan at the least. It's a cheaper alternative to those who might not be as hardcore into gaming but still enjoy their entertainment value as a way to relax after a hard shift at work or such, or just to have a good time with a few friends over.

Hit me up on 360, we can play some black ops. My tag is the same as my username on here, as for the 360 itself i still do a ton with it, although the xbox one does feel silky smooth by comparison.

Dude are you kidding?!? 360 will always be the best Xbox console no matter how "next gen" the future Xbox consoles will be.

Let us never forget the 360...

I still use the 360 mainly because it's the latest console i have available to play on. I still play Fallout 3 on it. I play Falout 4 on my little brother's computer, however, until my brothers B turns into an A, i have to resort back to 360. FYI, my gamertag is U83R R47 1337 if you wanna add me. I also play Mass Effect 3 and Dragon Age Inquisition and Dead Space 3 and Borderlands 2 and Black Ops 2. I know, im a sad gamer who lives in the past. It's not my fault, though. My parents never let me get the latest generations of consoles until it's been around long enough that 95% of people have one.

360 was the one original platforms that assassins creed was on, so me being the huge fan of that series, Xbox 360 will always have a place on my entertainment system, but I'm mad at ubisoft for not releasing "Unity" on 360, it really pisses me off. Also, since were on the topic...I found epicness,

forgot were though.

I'll send you a request once I get home from school. My GT is also the same as my username. Also, I don't have to work today, so yay.  :yay:

BTW, which Black Ops do you have? I have both, so I can play either.
