spoiler What has been your favourite FiM scene so far?

Looking back over five seasons of ponies, what single scene stands out in your mind as being your favourite?

There are many strong contenders for me, for example, the prologue scene in 'Sonic Rainboom' in which Rainbow Dash is coaching Fluttershy on the art of cheering.  And who could forget Pinkie Pie's Smile song in 'A Friend in Deed', a single scene (and song) which sums Pinkie up so beautifully as a character in a way that no other character has yet enjoyed.

However, to answer my own question, I think I would have to go for the fight sequence between Twilight Sparkle and Lord Tirek in 'Twilight's Kingdom, part 2'.

In terms of action there is no other scene that can match this for its sheer epicness.  This fight would not look out of place in any good anime series or 80s action cartoon, and to my mind, this scene more than any other was the final nail in the coffin of the 'its a show for little girls' argument (as if such an argument ever held any real validity).

So how about you?  Did the CMCs talent show entry do it for you?  Or did you shed a tear of joy when their crusade finally reached its conclusion?  Or something else perhaps, so give me your favourite scene and what makes it so special for you.

I have to join on the fight scene in twillights kingdom, that scene just made my jaw drop to the floor and I was like they didnt

My reaction was pretty similar, its not something I would ever have expected to see in My Little Pony.  Even though the fight did end in a stalemate Twilight kicked flank!

I think I have to go with the scene where the CMC got their cutie marks. That scene was a long time coming, and was just so amazing to me when it finally happened.   :rarity:

Good choice, I'll confess to my eyes getting a bit moist during that episode, particularly the little interaction between Rainbow Dash and Scootaloo during the song at the end.

I also concur with the "Twilight vs. Tirek" and "CMC finally getting their Marks" scenes.

Additionally, there's this:

1. Sombra never holding the Idiot Ball, having to be legitimately caught off-guard for once.

2. Spike's greatest moment ever.

3. Wife-toss. Enough said.

I'll go with the Twilight vs Tirek scene too, I liked that a lot and some others I like are that I can think of now are the ones where CMC got their cutie marks and the King Sombra scene in the Cutie-Remark.

It's always nice to see a villain being defeated by positive action on the part of the good guys instead of the all-too-common defeat through their own complacency, endless monologueing (not that I have anything against a good monologue) and the dreaded deus ex machina.  Sombra was defeated fair and square and the good guys won because they deserved to.

I did like the alternate present where Equestria was at war with the Crystal Empire, but for me I think seeing Rainbow Dash as one of Nightmare Moon's guards just topped it a (tiny) little bit.

I liked the Flim Flam brothers song scene, about the Super Cider Squeezer 6000, the best.

Daniel Ingram has definitely pulled his weight and more throughout the run of the show.  The contribution that his songs have made to the success of FiM cannot be overstated.

Super Speedy Cider Squeezy 6000 is a great example of the sheer range that he can bring to bear.

I'm going to pick two, and they're in order:

  1. From Wonderbolts Academy:

Rainbow Dash hasn't always been written in a positive light, and season three struggled. But during its four-great-episode stretch, this scene apexed Rainbow Dash's character. Being a Wonderbolt was her lifelong dream, but it interfered in her morals. For Lightning Dust to be rewarded for it was too much, especially when she nearly killed her friends.

  2. From The Cutie Re-Mark:

This whole episode is seriously underrated. Starlight's redemption even more so. But this scene works so well.

Everything, from The Cutie Map to showing the wasteland to Starlight's flashback, culminated here. Every single villain up to this point tasted a blast. One of them, Sunset, was completely reset. Starlight's redemption is Sunset's antithesis in terms of execution and method. Rather than forcing a redemption through brainwashing, Twilight gave Starlight the opportunity to change and become a better pony. Start giving the true Magic of Friendship a chance. Starlight chose to redeem herself. The fact that she chose to change makes Starlight's redemption is so much better than Sunset's: It's more genuine.

But this is also just as great a moment for Twilight Sparkle. Since her ascension, her execution as Princess hasn't always been the best. This scene epitomized why she's the Princess of Friendship and why I now support the Twilicorn. It's her best characterization as an alicorn yet.

I've always liked Rainbow Dash, she was my favourite pony when I first discovered MLP.  I think that  when she acts in accordance with her element she carries it off better than any of the others of the Mane 6 do.  We saw this in both 'Wonderbolts Academy' and also in 'Rainbow Falls'.  Although maybe that's just bias on my part.

As for 'The Cutie Remarking', I loved that episode.  I would certainly agree that Twilight's realisation that she couldn't defeat Starlight by might alone marked a big step in her development, and in backing down and appealing to Starlight's better nature she definitely earned her wings.

This right here

Now, I don't normally pay much attention to the musical numbers in the show, it's mainly when it's damn good that I like it, but that segment was possibly the best song and a great ending to Keating Roger's time on the show.

This is a fantastic song, and I don't mean fantastic for a kids cartoon, I mean fantastic, full stop.

And if you haven't seen this version, you should watch it, the longer it goes on, the harder you'll laugh.

1. A confirmation of my headcanon that he lives in some kind of trippy pocket dimension.

2. According to the "Discord And The Ponyville Players Dramarama" book, it's officially called Chaosville.

I just love the fact that the mail pony (which isn't Derpy, grrr), seems relatively nonchalant about the fact that he's delivering a letter in the chaos dimension like it's just another address on the route, albeit one that he's not entirely familiar with.

Twilight's Kingdom fight scene.

It's still my favorite scene of the show but season 5 threatened to dethrone it more than once and almost did it when the CMC got their cutie marks, I still cry when I see that scene. But I still choose the fight scene from Twilight's Kingdom cause It's something I never expected from MLP.

Honorable Mentions

Coloratura's Song at the end of The Mane Event

The end of Tanks for the Memories (I may have shed a tear)

Moondancer's breakdown near the end of Amending Fences

Twilight becoming an alicorn at the end of Magical Mystery Cure

The reveal of Chrysalis in A Canterlot Wedding and the changeling invasion that follows

This Day Aria also from A Canterlot Wedding (I personally don't like it all that much but its still a scene that sticks out to me)

The entirety of Slice of Life

The Entirety of Slice of Life

All good choices.  'Slice of Life' was a great episode, yes it was outrageous fan service but that was what it was always intended to be, and it did it very well.  It was a lot of fun to watch, I particularly liked Gummy's monologue, the bizarre juxtaposition of the thoughtful speech and Gummy's vacant expression was so funny, and finished off perfectly when he licks his own eyeball.

My favorite Friendship is Magic scenes is the best and great ending part in all episodes overall. I do is the best scenes that Twilight Sparkle transformed from a unicorn to an alicorn during the third season finale; defeated the Great Lord Tirek and Princess Twilight Sparkle got her brand new castle in Ponyville during the fourth season finale; the Cutie Mark Crusaders finally got their cutie marks as their successful reward; and Starlight Glimmer redeemed as forgiveness during the fifth season finale. :)

Princess Twilight Sparkle always do legendary stuff with magic in Equestria. Time to blast from the past.
