Does Starlight Glimmer sound different in S6?

As I have been watching S6 SG sounds quite a bit different to me. I checked and she has had the same VA since the beginning yet something seems different. Anyone else noticed, or just me?

Compare this:

to this:

Maybe I'm crazy but SG sounds significantly different in the ways she sounds in S6 to S5.

You would be surprised, how different people sound when they have confidence, compared to people who are unsure.

The VA actually does show a good job here, with Starlight sounding different, because of her unsure and sometimes dorky nature.

Thank you Randimaxis for this Wonderful Avatar. smile.png

Please, don't be afraid to talk to me. I am not as unapproachable, as you might think.

Is she does, I certainly didn't notice it.
Though I must admit, after reading a certain fic, I had kinda been looking forward to her fanon over reactive personality making for some good jokes in the show.

But she kinda just talks normally.

at first I was like;

"come on, where'd that big personality I loved so much before go? She was like the only pony to yell at Twilight like that, it was bad ass!"

Then I kinda got over it.

I think it was a nice note for Starlight's actress to find and works quite well.

One moment that sounds off to me was actually last season: to me her singing voice in the season 5 finale sounds quite different than her Our Town Anthem, but that could be style of song too.

She's a completely different character now. In the first scene you referred to, she's a controlling, emotionally unstable cult leader. In the second one, she's the Princess of friendship's reformed student.

It's mostly that her tone of voice is less smug.... and especially compared to the S5 finale she's not YELLING HALF OF HER LINES

I actually read that last part in Starlight's voice. xD

It seems like more of her has changed than just the mane style... Her actions seemed to change too.

Yeah... one thing is, in the upcoming episode she's sperging out over "making a friend"/

but this is a Freaking CULT LEADER, she should be very used to social interactions and be pretty cagey about social interaction, not just an over reactive child about meeting new people. You don't build an entire community without being very suave and charismatic, and her being so seemingly clueless about social interactions that she gets super excited to make a new friend just seems really weird

She DOES sound a bit dif...o.O

Aka "LadyPKchu".

I changed my name again cuz lately fluttershy has been more my favorite pony :3 I like her innocence, and I think I may get active in the fluttershy fan club. I really like a lot of the other main 6 too though.

I'm also a FlutterDash supporter.

I still love Korrina from pokemon a lot and plan on keeping my Korrina profile for now :P

Finding the ability to form friendships is bound to change one's point of view. I like how her new found emotions reflected in her much more expressive voice.

Check out the link down below. Starlight's voice actress Kelly Sheridan answered this question when the Season 6 premiere aired.

I for one like the voice change. She sounds much more warm and natural. I think Glim Glam is slowing creeping her way up to best pony status now  :proud:

Like most people have said, she is saying the lines differently, and that contributes to it. But what also makes her sound different is the lines themselves.

Someone who used to be a serial killer, and is now a scientist that works to cure cancer is going to sound a lot different just because of the context.

Have you ever thought about how much different Luna sounds than Nightmare Moon? Same deal.

Its interesting little brain science.

  • 3 weeks later...

A couple weeks old, this thread, BUT, I just have to point out:

I was just watching The Cutie Re-Mark again, and Starlight changes her voice immediately after she does her reformation. Her voice in the final scene is equivalent to her Season 6 voice.

Great skills from the actress here: because it's the 'same' character, but it's higher pitched, less sure, kinder. But yeah, the change happened at the end of Season 5.

Winner winner chicken dinner. Also to that point, in Heaths Warming Tail Kelly Sheridan lowered her voice again at times when the character was written to express annoyance or malevolent shades. When Snowfall Frost 'softens up' she sounds closer to reformed Starlight. When she is in 'bah humbug' mode she sounds like Cutie Map Starlight. This is a learned trait in many cultures. We consciously and subconsciously alter our voice and speech mannerisms depending on mood and intent.

I noticed this as well, and I was caught a little off guard about it. Having reflected and allowed myself to become more accustomed to it, I have come to appreciate that it perhaps understandably represents a shift in her character. The fact that it's noticeable to use shows that the VA has achieved what she set out to do (according to that linked tweet).

She sounds far more innocent and chilled out now, which I highly prefer. Her sounding really harsh, while being appropriate for her evil nature, really not only made her sound evil, but also incredibly arrogant. Now she sounds far more humbled and thus, likable. Makes it much easier to actually like the character, for me.
