Who's your favorite villain from season 1-5?

 

Mine personally is the Mane-iac from season 4 "Power Ponies" because of the comic book kind of style episode. It just gave me that edge of your seat kind of feeling and i love it

Best Villain Overall: Discord. He was a fun and awesome villain that few in the series can match to overall performance as he is stellar all around.

Best villain plot/concept: Starlight Glimmer: A villain that's not motivated by power or to be a dick but by ideology. This clearly separates her from the rest of the pack in a good way.

Worst Villain: Sunset Shimmer. Not only was she your stereotypical high school bully that attracted her few fans, but with how her resolution to good was essentially brain wash her till she reformed for good not only essentially replaced Sunset Shimmer the villain with someone else completely but it added an air of moral issues with the Elements of Harmony essentially mind wiping foes. To make it even more obvious, very few folks like Sunset Shimmer the villain but far more like Sunset Shimmer the reformed heroine.

Most Overrated Villain: Dazzlings. This is a case where I feel they owe everything to one character (Sonata Dusk) due to how many folks love her. I honestly believe you remove her from the group, you will kill 80% of the fandom for them as not only are the other two not that popular but looking at their background, their motivations as being villains is stereotypical or a case of author favoritism depending upon which source you believe in either the show or comics.

But anyway, my favorite is actually a 3-way tie between Discord, Sombra, and Tirek.

 

And my least favorite is, without a doubt, Sunset.

Well said. Starlight is my favorite for two reasons: her design, and her motive. Out of all the villains, Starlight was the one that mirrored reality the most. The way she had a bad childhood and formed the wrong understanding of cutie marks and everything reminded of the kind of people I've heard about and seen in the real world.

Probably because she was just there to be the Starter Villain for the Mane 6's development in the pilot.

 

Most of her threat back then was more of an Informed Ability than anything else.

 

Thankfully, later episodes as well as the comics made her more bad@$$.

Best villain overall: Either Discord, Tirek, or the Dazzlings, even if I can't say that any of these villains have complex motivations or backstories.  At best they have entertaining personalities and can provide a great challenge for the mane 6 to overcome.  The Dazzlings get brownie points for having the best climax out of all the villains, and having some really great musical numbers.

Most overrated villain: Starlight Glimmer. While the concept of a main antagonist in this show who wasn't motivated by world domination, but by her own ideology had some pretty good potential, I don't feel like she ever fully lived up to it. Plus I've seen way better well-intentioned extremist characters than Starlight, such as Ramses from the Prince of Egypt, as well as Amon, The Red Lotus, and Kuvira from the Legend of Korra.  It doesn't help matters that I feel the Cutie Map was somewhat underwhelming for a season premiere and that it is pretty overrated in general.  

Also, while I was starting to like her more as a villain in the Cutie Re-Mark, her terrible character redemption and unsatisfying and weak backstory killed that, and ended up making me like the season premiere less as a result.

Pertaining to the OP, Chrysalis would be one of my favorites. She's underrated and It's a shame that she didn't have more time.

Best Villain Overall:  Either Chrysalis or Tirek. Both are immensely powerful, powerful enough to fight the princesses one-on-one and win, and both are so dastardly in their personalities. Tirek can destroy all magic essentially and Chrysalis, well, she can be amongst all the other ponies and they wouldn't even know it. 

Best Villain Concept: Chrysalis. The fact that she can copy other ponies makes her so mysterious and sneaky.

Worst Villain: Starlight Glimmer. She was overpowered, I hated her motivation and she was let off too easily. "Nearly destroyed the entire timeline itself? Here, be our friend!"

Most Overrated Villain: Starlight Glimmer, see above.

Best Villain Overall: Tirek. Powerful, was a threat that had a purpose. Manipulative and ultimately very smart until he got hit by the idiot ball at the end.

 

 

Best villain plot/concept: King Sombra. Pretty much his only redeeming quality. Starlight would've been here but at least Sombra had a resolution.

 

 

Worst Villain: Starlight Glimmer. Is the first filler villain in the series and has zero impact as a villain as any of her villainous actions mean nothing in the end. When you have less worth than Sombra as a villain something's wrong.

 

Most Overrated Villain: Starlight Glimmer. Not certain how a villain whose actions are worthless to the entire series in general is "good". At best she's entertainment and that's it.

Hmm, tough choice. I'm torn between Discord, Sombra, Tirek and the Dazzlings.

 

They were all really fun and had great personalities, as well as pose quite a challenge for the Mane 6.

Sombra gets bonus points because I like "good guy becomes corrupt and then is redeemed" stories, similar to that of Arthas and Darth Vader, and the Dazzlings get bonus points too because they had great chemistry together. Though the topic said Season 1-5, so I guess they don't count in the first place.

Best villain: Discord. He was a very competent villain who actually managed to succeed in his goals by the first half of his two-parter storyline.

 

Worst villain: Sunset Shimmer. Her demeanor and goals are rather typical and sort of cliche plus she seems to be a combination of existing villains prior to the first EG film.

 

Best villain song: Queen Chrysalis/This Day Aria. Mostly because she's the only villain out of the four major ones of he first three seasons to have any songs lol.
