I have to admit, its lyra, and just for the fact that:

You have to say that was awesome and she its also really damn cute! I mostly love all the background ponies but lyra, you became my favorite

That video is exactly why Lyra is one of my favorite background ponies, lol (Although Lyra still does tie with Derpy and Vinyl)

I'd say Derpy Hooves, mainly because of her eyes. Sometimes, you'll see her with those goofy eyes, and some, her eyes are normal.

That and her clumsy nature.

    I feel like sometimes the background ponies don't get enough credit for their awesomeness.  Luckily, this site generally gives the background ponies such as Spitfire and Vynl Scratch, but I'm still curious as to others that you guys like. 

 

By the way, Big Mac is my favorite  :3

Still, to stay on topic, i'm going to say that my favourite background ponies would be Colgate, Lyra and the Royal Guard ponies . I like Derpy on occasions, same goes with Octavia. My least favourite would be Vinyl Scratch.

she maybe doesn't has a great character development  but i love her for what she is, and i think she is cute and friendly.

i have known people who is like Derpy in real life, and i have taken affection to them.

My main favorite would have to be Vinyl Scratch (I'm not very subtle with my current avatar ...). Not only does she have a great look that shows from a first glance of her cutie mark with music production and she must love raves in some way (or at least how I saw her at first glance.)

 

My favorite thing with Vinyl is how the music community has adapter her to be an avatar of sort for a big portion of brony and sometimes non-brony music. Kinda of like how Derpy is a prime example now of the audience adding and effecting the show and the staff giving back to the community in there subtle ways.

Derpy is obviously a wonderful choice for best background pony, but I try to consider her on a separate tier. She's like...let's see, primary, secondary, ____, background...tricondary. She is best tricondary pony. As for background pony, Lyra. The fictions about her are good, but the song by AwkwardMarina was so great that my family of non-bronies know all the lyrics to it because I sing it that much. I was I exaggerating but they do. Not that any of us mind, it's such a great song. And then there's the unfinished storyboard, which got slightly animated on the DSi flipnote thingy by Klonoa and -

 

..what was this thread about again? Oh yeah, background ponies. Film Reel. She has an interesting design, cool hat, and cool camera. That's a heckofa lot more than most background ponies get.

My favorite background pony is Candy Mane. In fact, she used to be my avatar and in my signature... maybe I'll go back to her someday. I also kind of like Lyra for her coloring and her excited jumping in some episodes... I get the feeling she's a little like Pinkie Pie. For stallions, does Fancy Pants count as background? If not, then Snowflake (aka Roid Rage), just for the fact that his tiny little wings can lift all those muscles into the air. Just more proof that pegasus flight is an in-born magical talent, rather than a question of physics... anyway, tangent... ooh, shiny!

Gotta say, I'm a fan of Lyra.

 

 

It's not just the pony, but also the fanon surrounding her. I think that's what makes a lot of background ponies popular. If they have fanon, but not necessarily canon. Then people get used to ideas for characters that aren't actually in the show.
