My favorite BG pony is easily 'Tavi, for all the wonderful reasons mentioned above (character design, cello, personality, cello, and and Earth pony to boot!), but Colgate and Berry Punch are also some that I particularly like for their fanon personalities. And in Berry's case, there's so much possible humor you can have with the town's "official spiked punch taste-taster" to be explored.

I voted for Derpy, Octavia, Lyra, Berry Punch and Aloe/Lotus. With the exception of Aloe/Lotus, all of the ones I listed ooze personality. Not to mention that most of them are lively and are a joy to watch.

 

If I were to pick one, it'll be a tie between Derpy and Octavia. While Tavi is cuter and makes an interesting pair with Vinyl, Derpy feels like an official character, from her relationships with many ponies (most prominently Dr. Hooves), to her job as a mailmare. Not just that, but her quirky eyes and personality are what make her Derpy.
