Where does Princess Luna Live?

We know for a fact ...

- Princess Celestia lives in her castle in Canterlot

- Princess Cadence lives in the castle of the Crystal Empire

- Twilight Sparkle lives in her castle in Ponyville

But where does Princess Luna live?

To our knowledge Princess Luna doesn't have her a castle to call her own. She did share a castle with Celestia (The Castle of the Two Sisters in the Everfree Forest) until she became Nightmare Moon. Does this mean she shares living quarters with her sister, Princess Celestia?

Although there are many chambers to make accommodations for Luna to live in at the castle in Canterlot, I can't help but feel that Luna lives somewhere else. Somewhere she has lived for a long period of time...the MOON! Bellow are some video clips that back up my theory.

The majority of the time when we see Luna enter a scene she comes from the direction of the moon. When the mane six defeated Nightmare Moon and Luna was her normal self again she claimed that she had missed her older sister a lot. This tells us that Luna was able to think in her time of banishment. It would make sense that Luna either built a place to live on the moon during her 1000 year banishment or Celestia made sure she had accommodations on the moon to survive a 1000 years without setting hoof on Earth. Not to mention that Luna can be seen using the moon as a common portal when helping the cutie mark crusaders in their dreams.

I think she lives in the castle with Celestia. Even after everything, they're still quite close, and it'd be a lot more sound politically speaking to have the two rulers of the diarchy in the same place should an agreement be made that needs both of their approval. It isn't even hinted at whether she has somewhere else, so all evidence I have would point towards the Canterlot Castle

Bamboozle the established system!

Or don't

I can see her living with Celestia when she is needed for canterlot but then there is the unanswered question of where do her guards (bat ponies) live, if not where Princess Luna is? If she really does live in Canterlot, then why don't we see her guards at all? You don't see bat ponies walking around Equestria.

I see this as being a case in which there's no reason to assume anything other than Occam's Razor unless new, strong evidence is shown.  I'm sure she lives at the castle with Tia.  However, I think it's very likely that she spends a lot of time away from the castle.  I see her as being a pony who values solitude and time to herself.  If she's able to, I could see her teleporting herself to the moon regularly to meditate.  Failing that, perhaps she has a secret cave or grove in Everfree for such a purpose.  I see Tia being a ruler who stays at the palace all day in order provide the public with that constant face, the one's who's in charge, like the president of the U.S.  I see Luna as being a pony who disappears randomly and reappears when she's needed, which obviously makes her much cooler than Tia.

I like tot think the bat ponies live in the caverns under Canterlot castle and only come out at night (just like regular bats would).  That would explain why we don't get to see them that often.  After all, when was the last time you saw a regular bat IRL?  Even so, they do show up every once in a while (like how they were just casually walking around Canterlot Castle in "it's about time").

Very good point about the bat ponies sharing the same characteristics as real bats. I last time I saw a bat was at night, so point made! I'm not sure sure about them living in the underground caverns but that does seem like a logical place for them to spend their time. I re-watched "It's About Time" and I didn't see any bat ponies. All I saw were normal canterlot guards that were grey. The last time I saw a bat pony in any of the episodes was in "The Cutie Re-Mark Part 2" when Nightmare Moon was ruling Equestria.

The answer is simple:

On the Moon!

Just kidding!

She probably lives in Canterlot with Princess Celestia.

Those weren't bat ponies?  I thought they were.
