Fluttershy's parents were shown to be even shyer and less assertive than their daughter. How would they have reacted to Spike? Fluttershy herself was shown to be terrified of adult dragons, but gushed over Spike like crazy when they first met.

Interesting... Personally I think they'd react the same way as every other pony except Fluttershy did. I mean, Fluttershy is really into animals whereas her parents don't really seem to be.

 

Mr. Shy says in the opening scene "I have my clouds, you mom has her flowers, you've got your animals..." 

 

What I'd take from that quote is that Mr. & Mrs. Shy wouldn't be as interested if they saw a baby dragon because they have different interests. I mean literally every other pony except Fluttershy didn't care much so I don't see why her parents would care much either. (Unless my mind is just blank from S1 and everypony made a fuss about Spike...)

 

 

Probably still terrified of adult dragons however.

I'd say it would be a kneejerk reaction on their part. Something tells me that they have never interacted with a dragon before, not even a baby dragon and given that they have no obsession with other creatures like their daughter, I feel like they would freak out at first, even over a baby dragon in this case. They would quickly warm up to him though, I definitely could see that happening. Spike is just too awesome not to love. <3 Now if only DHX would treat him like that all the time...

The fear of dragons isn't exactly irrational. They are physically superior and stronger, they are a predatory species, their teeth are strong enough to pierce diamond, and an assortment of other abilities not to be reckoned with. That being said, I think Fluttershy's phobia is uniquely her issue and not her families problem. My ongoing head canon until it is disproved is Fluttershy once attempted to control a dragon with her Stare and it didn't work, and the subsequent events whatever they were made her traumatized about dragons. Spike being a baby dragon doesn't bring back those memories in her like full grown ones do.

I doubt they would be scared of him. No offense to Spike xD but he is much smaller than them, and even Fluttershy was fine with him. Actually they might seem interested.
