What do you think or want the message to be?

This is a pretty big aspect of how the movie will turn out. Any specific or even general outcome and takeaway that the movie gives. Wouldn't be surprised if is something relating to today's issues.

...some of these are already touched in FiM but I'm not sure what the movie would likely want to portray maybe something we've never seen before I prefer.

It would be impossible to say without knowing some things about the plot like the villains goal to say what fits. But if this plot is really about uniting word of Equestria against the villainwith a Lord of the Rings style feel then I would say something like, always have hope, together, we are strong and should out our differences aside when there is a great need, and really Friendship is Magic, that is the point of the series truly. And film should have a universal moral.

Juxtapose the mane six having all reached their goals in life and being dragged slowly apart as their lives have changed over the years, only to be pulled back together as a team by the conflict and rekindling their friendship to be just as close as before.
