critique wanted Who would I be?

I think I would like to create a Ponysona, I tried to make one on a 'design your own pony' site last year but I couldn't get anything that felt like me.

 

I've stolen this advice from @butterfly on another thread, I'm hoping it will help.

Any advice would be amazing!! (I'm basing it on me, or rather the me I'd like to be)

 

 

1. Start with a description

-For this method, you start by focusing on personality and character traits, then you work on appearance

-You can either base this on your own traits, or make up something new and different

-What are your OC's strengths and weaknesses? What are their quirks? 

I'm not sure about my strengths, but my weaknesses are that I struggle with being alone and becoming emotional or attached to people and things too quickly. I can be very sensitive. Quirks, I love animals, cartoons, films and movies. Pastel coloured things are my favourite and I love cute things. 

 

 

-Is it male or female? Is it young, teen-aged, adult, or old?

Probably young adult? I'm 27 in real life but feel a little younger.

 

-What race is it? each race tends to have specific traits (these are trends, not rules)

---Earth: tend to be stronger, bulkier, dependable, more connected to the Earth, have talents/names associated with food

---Unicorn: tend to be more intellectual, creative, have talent/names that are more abstract

---Pegasi: tend to be athletic, competitive, have weather related talents/cutie marks

---Alicorn: tread lightly, as many people consider alicorn OCs to be OP or mary-sueish. think carefully about its backstory.

---non-pony: harder to pin down, definitely stands out

I really don't know, I don't feel regal or special enough for Alicorn, I'm definitely not competitive or athletic at all so Pegasi seems out. I definitely want to be pony, so maybe Earth - but I'm not strong either physically or emotionally, though I like to think I'm dependable.

 

 

I don't really know who I'd be to be honest, I struggle enough with that in life!!

I feel I have some of Fluttershy's shyness, but aroundreal friends can turn in to Apple Bloom and be loud and silly. I'd like to think I'm stylish like Rarity but my fashion sense probably ends up like a Pinkie explosion. Twilight's love of books and geekiness is how I feel about pop culture and TV/films etc. But then I love the style of Celestia and Cadence, especially Cadence's sweetness. But then I just want to be elusive and mysterious and wonderful like Luna.

 

I just don't know.

Same here. I have absolutely no idea of what my "OC"/ponysona would look like. I just gave up on it; it's too hard, haha! 

 

The only thing I know is that I'd choose to be a pegasus. xD

 

You seem like a pegasus kind of pony. Not all pegasi need to be athletic; Fluttershy is a perfect example of this. But earth pony would be perfect as well

The Internet needs more earth pony OCs! It sounds like you have some of the pieces already, but I understand how it is really hard to make a ponysona. There are so many things about your true personality that are highly varied or even at times contradictory, which I think is a side effect of being human. When you take that and boil it down to a cartoon horse, some things have to be simplified. pick some important aspects to your personality and start building from there, and If you aren't sure about your strengths, pick a strength that you wish you had (or strive to have), so long as it doesn't completely contradict the weakness.

 

Some other things that can help flesh out your character:

1- what is her job? where does she live?

2- what is she most afraid of?

3- Does she interact with ponies from the show? if so, who? why would she interact with them?

Of course you could always choose a bat pony as your ponysona.  Actually that seems closer than any of the three major races.

Oh wow, that's interesting, I had never thought of that. Halloween is my favourite holiday and I did used to be obsessed with Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Vampire films in general.

I'll have to do some research, but I loved the Fluttershy bat episode. Maybe I could be a cute unsinister one. Hmmmm. So many new thoughts!

I think my job would be the same, a Film Studies teacher. So either a teacher or professor. I think she would of tried to live in Manetropolis but found it a bit isolating and overwhelming so would want to live in Ponyville for the community elelment.

Most afraid of being alone or forgotten.

I think if she interacted it would be with Twilight or Fluttershy because of shared hobbies (animals and reading). Plus they'd seem approachable.

You could create multiple ponysonas instead. Each one represents an aspect of a composed, more complex personality.

Have them interact with each other, the same way it happens within yourself.

What do we think of this as a rough start?

I've gone with a sort of batpony earthpony hybrid, which I'm not sure is allowed but I had fun thinking about it.

I thought it could add to her sense of awkwardness and loneliness, as she doesn't quite fit in and probably tries too hard.

 

So. Backstory:

 

At the moment we have Kitty Lonely (will probably change depending on if I figure out a Cutie Mark).

She's a mid twenties pony, who grew up in Manehattan but has recently moved to Ponyville to make friends and connections.

She has worked as a teacher in a high school for a few years as a pop culture specialist (hoof culture?).

She loves animals (I may have to create a pet for her) and can be a little quiet, but loves films and tv and books. Anything involving a story.

She tends to believe the worst in herself and struggles to ask for help, but always wants to go the extra mile to help others and will always try to lend a hoof.

This is my first time logging in for a few weeks. I like what you've got going so far! I think a pet would be a great addition to your character. You could stick with Earth/Bat hybrid, or you could say that you are a specific species of bat pony, like werebat or something. I'm having a harder time envisioning the cutie mark with your current name, but I could see you having a cat companion.

 

If you are still trying to go for a cutie mark, perhaps you could go with something writing related, since she is all about story, or perhaps a cat's paw to tie in with the name. In the end this is your "baby", so feel free to do whatever.
