SFyr 1,982 November 1, 2016 Share November 1, 2016 Honestly, I think it's one of the fundamental appeals to people as a whole. It's pretty instinctual, and you can find "cuteness" in many popular things. I mean, look at Pokemon, Digimon, Anime, Cartoons in general, a good chunk of Japanese product packaging... All of it has a pretty nice focus on cuteness. As for MLP being the definition of cuteness... nah. I think we're just comfortable focusing on it pretty hard, haha. 5 Commission Thread | Deviantart | Poniverse Tumblr | Art Tumblr
Steve Piranha 29,428 November 2, 2016 Share November 2, 2016 I don't think I was so invested in cuteness before becoming a brony . I think the cute things I was more invested on before were my aunt's yorkies :-P Sig by Discords
They call me Loyalty 1,948 November 2, 2016 Share November 2, 2016 Not necessarily. But this pursuit is sometimes the result of hypocrisy. Due to the rejection of personal insecurities, which create this idealized view.Such as it happens with my view of reality. It's built upon the fear of those aspects I reject.Light is defined by shadow. Truth by lies, and so own. I don't like to be selective when it come to life, which is why destroying my own pillars allows me to taste the bittersweet ground.
Kyoshi Frost Wolf 41,632 November 2, 2016 Share November 2, 2016 What,s wrong with loving cute stuff? I mean, just look at me. c: Nah, I'm not cute. Be 'obsessed' with cute things isn't really a problem. It is a lot better than being obsessed with far more negative things like death and politics. And brussel sprouts. Yuck.
Flutterbattyyy 331 November 2, 2016 Share November 2, 2016 (edited) It is one of the biggest appeals of the show, for me. However, it is certainly not the only reason. Fluttershy appeals to the cute side especially. She is the cutest pony, creature, etc.,–real or fictional, to ever be in existence. Fact. But I also tend to like other cute stuff–mainly kittens, cats, some other animals, Eevee, and Pikachu. I don't see myself as someone who looks at everything and thinks "Oh, how cute!" For me, "cute" is reserved for special things. Luminance 2,186 November 2, 2016 Share November 2, 2016 G4 ponies are obsessively cute so I think it becomes natural to just love them all whether someone's a Brony or not.
SaburoDaimando 1,196 November 2, 2016 Share November 2, 2016 Yes, and not just with Ponies. But with characters from other franchises. In fact, I've taken an interest in drawing these types of characters.

That Guy with the CMB 5,873 November 2, 2016 Share November 2, 2016 My idea of cute seems different from that of other bronies' (and people in general's) ideas...like, people might agree with me on what we think is cute, but they'll probably find young ponies with big eyes asking for hugs cute whereas I find it cringey and repetitive. This is cute to me. (I OWN NEITHER IMAGE BY THE WAY. ) See, other people find that cute, but people find those images of young fillies (and maybe colts) with "hug me" signs cuter. I think it's mostly because I'm not obsessed with cute stuff and it's more of a passing pleasure to me if it comes my way, but meh. Oh dear, hope I don't sound emotionless or something. o.o' Have some emotes to display emotions. 1 Romans 10:
Ganondorf8 11,322 November 2, 2016 Share November 2, 2016 When you look at something cute, your mind tends to drift towards that and ignores everything else that has to do with any negative thoughts. Granted, some in the fandom do take the cuteness angle a little too far, but most are pretty reasonable about it.

Justin_Case001 4,896 November 2, 2016 Share November 2, 2016 For me, I'd say it's a healthy obsession. I've always loved cute things, but before FIM I had never found any franchise to fill this niche that was actually well written and intelligent. Most cute shows I've seen are either dumb, cringey, way too young (like pre-school stuff), or just doesn't keep my interest because of flat writing and characters. So, FIM definitely filled a void, there. It's nice to finally have something cute in my life that I can get excited about, but also feel like it's a quality franchise for all ages. I could leave it there, but I just want add how there's nothing wrong with liking dark or adult stuff, like Game of Thrones, as well as cute stuff. The problem is that for an adult, there's no shortage of dark or violent things, but there's almost no cute stuff to satisfy that desire, because cute is usually seen as childish. It's so easy to get my fill of violent games, movies of things blowing up, sex, etc, but it's tough to find something to satisfy the desire for cute, funny, cheerful, and wholesome. That's why bronies get so excited about this stuff, I think. That's definitely how I feel.
Nightfall Gloam 18,265 November 2, 2016 Share November 2, 2016 I've always been a fan of the cute, heck even my own art style has been called "cute" by a lot of people I know. I don't think cuteness is an obsession to be worried about. 2 Aspiring animator/illustrator, founder of MLPF's Lighthoof and Shimmy Shake fan club! True, it's hard to take seriously excessively cute works because few attempted to appeal audiences with anything else. In fact, I was one of those skeptical when I was told that FiM was good, but the brony fanbase (which I thought it wasn't THAT big back then), made me check to see what the fuzz was about. Previously however, I shied away from cutesy works, sans a couple of videogames here and there. Like Hamtaro, which I though back then it was another shallow saccharine show back then . Well, chance not given, too late now. Not easy for a show clearly intended for younger audiences to appeal to a dude like me, even if the critters are voiced by ponies (Hamtaro is Daring Do, DARING FUCKING DO) 1 Sig by Discords
