How would YOU punish Starlight Glimmer?

OFF WITH HER HEAD!

No in all seriousness, while I Don't dislike her. (I Just hate her weak flank backstory)

And yes its kind of weird/crap that she didn't get punished for what she did (I mean she basically destroyed the world a few times over)

I think the ideal/point was kind of like Discord.

#1: She's to powerful to leave to her own devices to some extent.

#2: She's to valuable a ally to be left to her own devices.

It's less that she was not punished and more that her explanation for what she did was just SO DARN WEAK...

I seem to be alone in the thought that no punishment is needed. Starlight Glimmer learned her lesson before things went beyond her ability to reverse them. In effect, she actually didn't do anything.

Actually several of us don't feel any punishment is necessary. Welcome to the club. Have some "Not Guilty Cake".

But Starlight is still a sore point for a lot of members apparently, so dreaming of punishments helps ease the frustrations for some I suppose. The ponies of Equestria have moved on, everyone else should to. :P

I'm going to take a page out of my own book here.

I'd send her to Tartarus, and in hopes that she learns her lesson and reforms thanks to the Magic of Friendship, I'd ensure she was able to observe the world above, but not interact. Essentially she'd be watching the episodes like we are but non stop, until the lesson is cemented into her personality. :D

Friendship is Magic o.o

Thank you for the fine cake! A lot of people don't agree with my outlook on the time travel aspect, but I really do see it as none of the events actually took place. She had a bad idea, and thankfully was able to learn from it before destroying everything.

Well, yeah...time travel is a funny thing since it can be presented in so many different ways across different fictions. Since it is not a real thing (that we know of) there is nothing to point to and say "This is how it works", so in essence all variations of it, and none of them at all are correct. It really just comes down to head canon. Personally, I feel when Twilight got through to her and made her stop, and the spell was nulled, those alternate futures ceased to be. She did not destroy any worlds or wreck anything, because it all no longer exists, the timeline was corrected. At least that is my viewpoint on it... others really have to decide for themselves using their own personal ideas and head canons. I am not saying she is not guilty of causing problems, but there are people (and characters) who do far worse with much larger ramifications that people feel deserve a pass, and yet she was forgiven by those that were wronged and is working towards being a better pony, and yet everyone wants blood. It is really not about the acts anymore, it is just about general dislike for her character for the majority.

  • 1 year later...

use magic to make her see her tyranny from someponyelse's eyes, see how wicked she was, there is no greater punishment than living out the results of your own deeds

(Though i personally don't believe in punishing those who see they have done wrong and want to change, i see that as petty revenge for the sake of the punisher to make them feel better. And last time i checked, inflicting pain on someone trying to do right is wrong and has always been wrong.)

Force her to admit something really embarrassing in public, no matter if it really is true. Like have her say she cleans herself like a cat or that she really DOES love Fluttershy ¦D

I would send her to a gulag and force her to do hard labor for the next five years, after which she will be sold as an indentured servant to the rich and nobility of Canterlot, where they may do as they please to her for another five years. When she has completed her in total ten year sentence, she shall be released but only on supervised prole for the rest of her life, being forced to walk around with a collar around her neck and be escorted by an abusive guard pony for the rest of her miserable life :mustache:

I wouldn't. I mean, people have done much worse things than she ever did and gotten away without consequences (*cough*Discord*cough*) so it'd kind of silly to punish her at this point.

The punishment should match the crime(s).

...

So, first of all, she should make absolutely sure whether or not all those dystopian Equestrias still exist. If they do exist, she should be sent on a quest to repair the alternate timelines she created. (Perhaps she'd go with the mane 6 or with Celestia & Luna, or with all of the above) I think this would make a great miniseries, even if it's not a punishment, btw. Since she created all those alternate timelines, she should be responsible for repairing them.

Next, we now know why she did what she did. She thought cutie marks were the cause of her problems, when the true cause/problem was that she lacked confidence to speak with or reach out to her friend, Sunburst. Instead of writing him a letter or pushing her way through the crowd to congratulate him, she just left. (What we don't know yet is exactly how she got her own cutie mark. Did she get it when she learned how to remove them? If so, it's a strong reminder of her past mistake, and maybe changing her own cutie mark would be a proper act of redemption.[This looks like a job for the CMCs!])

Since her first and foremost problem was her lack of reaching out, a proper punishment/rehabilitation process would be putting her on stage as a motivational speaker. "I thought cutie marks were the problem, but really the problem was my own fear. Face your fear, because it's not the monster you think it is." That would make her face her own fear, which would partially be a punishment (because she'd be very scared to face her fear;) and, it would be rehabilitating because she's actually growing ethically and morally by honestly admitting what she did and learning from it.

Oh of course I would. Her brainwashing and enslavement of a group of people, practically kidnapping them. Those are very heavy charges. Think of the charges that cult leaders get here in thsi world. And certainly after what she did to Twilight and messing with time and history?! That's beyond dangerous and could have easily (and realistically) killed  so many others!

I would definately have her prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. I let what happened in MLP slip because well... it's MLP and a kids show, but I would have adored more realism in the terms of her actually  have been arrested the next time she was caught (or caught the first time) and sentenced by Celestia and Luna and spent a lot of her dreary days paying for her crime.

Twilight would keep visiting her and questioning her... and then I think during those visiting periods they'd start to get through one another as they did, and then Twilight would either ask to teach Starlight, or would begin teaching her in secret when she went to visit her in the prisons.
I think that would have been an excellent redemption story, while also giving out the message to children that you still  have to be responsible for your actions. I don't think Starlight taught that very well, she just "felt bad" about it, which to me was a bit of a cop out.

First, make her work in hard labour for six months or one year, mining gems with Diamond Dogs.

Then after that, film her in many embarrassing scenarios, such as getting tickled, being Twilight's maid for a month, being given to a dysfunctional human family for a week, and showing her horrible videos of cringeworthy stunts and fails to drive her mad. And then film her again in all of her insanity as a birthday present to Rarity. And then make her Rarity's slave.

Oh thats  easy... first id put her in a gimp suit, get ariding crop and... oh, not THAT type of punish... FINE... you're no fun.

Well since magic is kind of a thing in equestria, why not go for a bit of psychological torture?... Create a spell that puts  her in the hooves of one pony that would have been drastically affected by her actions.... Make her live and relive the horror that she would have created in the point of view of another....

OMG YES

Here's a different twist to the Cutie Re-Mark for anybody who hates Starlight and felt she didn't get her comeuppance.

The timeline has been restored. Twilight talks about the entire ordeal with her friends. Starlight comes into the room prepared for whatever punishment they think is fair. And then, when Twilight offers to take her under her wing (no pun intended) and teach her all there is to know about friendship, the royal sisters come crashing in. Celestia more or less says "FUCK THAT! This bitch needs to be punished!", then she creates a magical force field around Starlight to keep her from running.

The Mane Six demand to know what's going on, and that's where you come in. Luna introduces them to you and says you've been given the honor of deciding what punishment Starlight really deserves. Any pony who argues with you or interferes with the pending procedure will be thrown in a dungeon, deep beneath Canterlot Castle, for no less than a week.

Anything goes. Even death.

What do you do to her?

HOLY SHIT, I LOVE THIS.
