If you could get rid of one character....

Yea I'm gonna get hate for this.

But after a long time of thinking about it. After season 4 Celestia kinda became irrelevant entirely. Celestia's was only a messenger to twilight on what the problem was and what to go do about it. Even when she was relevent she still felt excluded.

I'll admit season 7 has made my problem with her way better (She seems way more like an actual character now)

Another character I'd get rid of is rainbow dash. She sorta suffers the same I don't care about my parents attitude as Zephyr but at least Zephyr changed Rainbow seems to just be too self absorbed for my taste (But I'm a bit biased)

I would get rid of Pinkie Pie because i never thought she was funny, destroys the flow of some Episodes for me, with her weird actions and fourth wall breaking and she is just annoying.

Did you watch Parental Glidance? She was supportive of her parents but just got embarrassed and overreacted, and then apologized. She never came off as "I don't care about my parents." And self absorbed? No. At least, not nearly as much as she was in earlier seasons, particularly 3 and earlier.

I'll admit rainbow too fixed her problem. But Parental Guidance, something about RD just left a bad taste for me. I really don't have a whole lot against her as a character but the line "There was a time that I wasn't the best at everything." Really tipped that opinion. Because that Implies she thinks she now IS the best at EVERYTHING

Then again. Rainbows Egotistical side is only a part of it. Rainbow has done a lot of good too like She did try to get bullies to leave Fluttershy alone and she helped her be assertive with zephyr. (Just offhand positives I can think of.) That's why I mentioned her second. 'Tia does have/get enough development for me.

Lots of characters:

  • Gabby
  • Gilda
  • Flim & Flam
  • Babs
  • Prince Blueblood
  • Stephen Magnet
  • Spoiled Milk /Rich
  • Grumble (the dragon)
  • Etc.

All these characters are annoying, boring or just useless.

I've got a few in mind, so why not?

  • Zephyr Breeze: The most unpleasant character to watch, one of the worst written characters in the entire franchise, and is singlehandedly why Flutter Brutter is one of the show's worst. Diva and freeloader stereotype. Completely selfish and lazy. Casually destroys his parents' prized possessions. The fact that he knowingly manipulated other characters to do even the simplest of tasks. And then at the end, "I'm afraid of failure"? ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME?!!! You're not afraid of failure, you're just a lazy, manipulative bastard! This sorry excuse for a "redeemed 'character'" doesn't deserve any praise and can go screw a thumbtack.
  • Feather Bangs: Oh, a character who didn't appear at any point in the series comes in to be the phallic obstacle in Big Mac's crush on Sugar Belle. Surely, he could be a worthwhile character. But nope! He's just a quarter-dimensional stereotype for the sake of being an antagonist! His whole pop culture parody is more dated than eye-bleeding psychedelic artwork.
  • Trenderhoof: "I'm a trendsetter/hipster stereotype who doesn't treat mares with respect and wants to do it with Applejack because she's pretty."
  • Lily Lace: Would've been fine had she not have the most ear-screeching, stereotypical valley girl accent I've heard.
  • Flash Sentry: A character in the series whose lone identity is to be Twilight's crush. Sure, he may be a genuinely good person, but he's a combo of three clichés, filler, and a sexist stereotype. He's the cornerstone of why EQG, its stories, and its world are so sterile, stupid, broken, and insipid. Like Zephyr, unworthy of any praise whatsoever.

I don't doubt a future episode could make Zephyr better (which, BTW, has been the same method that's enabled said "reformed villains who did so much worse" to be much better-received).

P.S.: Feather Bangs, however, was okay.

There are many ways to develop Zephyr further. He is a hair stylist after taking ownership and finishing his education. Babs Seed is a barber, right? Manehattan represents New York ... scary city with competition?

Applejack and Fluttershy map episode, tackling family loyalties perhaps? What if Zephyr becomes an unlikely role model for Babs.

....

Anyway, I don't blame anyone for disliking the character, and it is completely acceptable to have a negative emotional response to a character and not feel obligated to look for positive traits. People do get to enjoy a show the way they want. Just saying.

Can I nominate two characters? I think both Flim and Flam deserve to get the axe. These two shifty salesponies had their chance to shine in their first episode, played a satisfactory role, and then reappeared a couple seasons later having learnt nothing from their bitter failure in Ponyville... and unapologetically deserted the scene again after being exposed as frauds.

Viva Las Pegasus is actually a decent episode for me, and it's nice seeing them having changed a bit, but I just don't see anything about them that makes a fourth episode worthwhile. I would honestly rather see somepony like Zephyr Breeze again instead.

That second outing almost ruined the characters for me. Their first appearance they were focused on profit and achieving a sales goal absent empathy. They had a product that worked when quality ingredients were used. That is far more nuanced and less devious than taking advantage of sick ponies and putting their lives in danger.

I can still see a use for the characters, but the writers have to understand that crafty and manipulative is a different trait than out and out fraud.

Going by the exact spirit of the question, which is to say you will remove the character from continuity but you are not changing the past... they just literally will never be seen again... I think it is cheating to get rid of a character that has only appeared in one episode and has a high potential to never appear again. It is the same thing as choosing not to choose. I hate Zephyr... like a lot. However, there is a fair chance he will never be seen again anyway... except maybe in the background walking by or something. I would choose Snips & Snails since I detest the characters but they more than likely will appear again in the future. Dishonorable mention goes to Daring Do since although I actually adore her as a fictional idea and a character, I just don't like her in the cartoon as it stands currently and just find her a silly inclusion.

Of course if you could not only remove the character but make it so they never appeared to begin with Zephyr all the way.

For those who hate Zephyr Breeze: I now wouldn't mind if he didn't appear in future episodes anyway, but I still don't find it tolerable to insult a character's personality.

Like must we have him have his episodes all the time? :eww:

You have a point! It would be better if he had a little less screentime in his episodes and he plays a role in episodes which aren't about him. And he must have more episodes about him! :orly:

That's the point. He is so annoying and boring I even forget his name.

Can't believe I'm the first to say this, but Starlight. She's yet to prove herself as anything other than an unnecessary addition to the show.

I promise that you are not the first to say that, not even in this thread.

I wouldn't get rid of any character, but I would definitely get rid of random Pinkie Pie appearances that give no substance at all.

Example of bad random use of PP: in Honest Apple being a captain obvious and just passing the ball between protagonists without anything else to offer. She seems to have been used in the episode just because she's Pinkie and they needed some silly comedy.

@Jeric, @Whompy Whomperson @Jaspers, @Driverscissors, and all Zephyr Breeze haters

I feel I should apologize  to all of you for 2 angry posts I originally posted here on around June 26th; about how I took great offense to those of you who bashed Zephyr Breeze. It made me really upset to see people act like there's absolutely nothing good about a character and that said character deserves to be thrown in the fire.

I was just upset that you couldn't acknowledged the softer side of Zephyr Breeze that I could relate to in the last 3rd of the episode. But it was unfair of me to call you all hypocrites back then. I am so sorry for that! You can hate him all you want, but it doesn't change how I feel about him.

He may have been a jerk for most of his episode, but in all honesty, he was just scared of failure so much to the point of not even trying; something I can identify and sympathize with! All he needed was a push in the right direction from his sister and one-sided crush to turn his life around. In the end, he finally succeeded in graduating from his calling of Mane Therapy. I ultimately managed to graduate from University myself, thanks to this episode and a surprisingly relatable character!

In short, haters are going to hate/ but to me, doesn't make him less great!

If I had to choose one, I guess it would be either Snails or Snips. They are completely unnecessary.

Or Angel. I'm pretty sure that out of all of the animals Fluttershy has who could be her main pet, she can find one that is a lot more respectable to her and anyone else.

If i can get rid of one of characters of the show... What a terrifying power. Of course we get rid of character we hated, let see, which character i want to erase the most... No one. I cant erase anypony in the show, anypony in this show can be a good character in the future, even Snail is suprising likable in Buckball Season. I have my least favorite character but i will save my power for more terrible upcoming character...
