movies/tv Is Pixar trying to forget A Bug's Life?

IIRC "A Bug's Life" is generally regarded as among the lesser movies of Pxar's roster. Not saying it's bad, but generally people don't hold in the same regard as they do Toy Story, Incredibles, Finding Nemo, etc. As such it easily forgotten.

And this is coming from someone who loves that film. :3

A Bug's Life, Wall-E, and The Good Dinosaur are usually not talked about anywhere near as much as other Pixar films. Same with Ratatouille, which is one of my all-time favorites by any animation studio. I guess some of the movies are just more suitable for a big money making franchise in the eyes of the Disney executives. Doesn't mean the rest aren't worth watching, though.

Wall-E is still by and large regarded as one of their greater masterpieces. It still commands a lot of respect among animation fans and critics and usually makes top 5 on critics' Pixar lists. It is sitting at a very commendable 96% on rotten tomatoes -- and Slash recently ranked it at #4 (higher than Toy Story 3).

Bugs Life is good, but like Toy Story, Pixar was still trying to change things up from Disney's traditional story telling, when they just got so good at crafting a decent story that it was eventually overshadowed.

Cars ... heh. Give that one another five years. It's actually a fondly enjoyed film by a certain age bracket, a merchandise juggernaut, and has the perfect conditions that set up future nostalgia. Wait until some kids born about 2006-2010 find out it isn't appreciated when they get to a specific age. Bet you anything some of the Cars films get a larger voice online in due time.

And yes Ratatouille was phenomenal.

Bug's Life is a respectable movie but not a blow-away. This hasn't made any difference with things like Cars, but since Cars make a bundle on merchandising I guess that's the prime directive in Disney board rooms. It doesn't hurt either that Cars is John Lasseter's personal favorite. Being the head of the company has its perks I guess. I still wouldn't be surprised if they came up with another installment of Bug's Life at some point. Look at how long it took to get a sequel going to their masterpiece The Incredibles? I wouldn't rank A Bug's Life as low as The Good Dinosaur, but I don't think it's at the top of anyone's list of priorities either, so it would likely be much later than sooner. But I still wouldn't write it off as a possibility, especially if Pixar sticks to their sequel-crazy policy.

Joe Ranft, one of the VA for A Bug's Life ( heimlich the caterpillar) passed away years ago and Cars 1 was dedicated to him! Unless, they find a good replacement to voice the spirit of the Joe, I doubt we'll see a sequel!

Besides, we still have "A Bug's Land" at California Adventure in Anaheim, California.

I thought it was a good movie. Not every film needs a sequel. Some are good stand-alone films. some of the greatest movies don't have sequels (albeit not Pixar or Disney), like CasaBlanca or Titanic... Though I guess both are based on a true story and couldn't really have a sequel.

I don't remember anything about it, since I think I was really young when I last saw it. That being said, I don't remember anything about Antz either, for the same exact reason(I might not have even seen that one). I'll have to rewatch it, and see what I think of it.

I always liked that movie and I'm sure loads of others do too. :rarity: I don't know if they're ignoring it, they just tend to focus on the movies that have more of a following and although Bug's Life is very good, I don't think it has that as much as Monsters Inc or Toy Story. :dash: While we're on the subject, does anypony remember the Bug's Life PC game?  There were two of them, one just being the movie's plot, the other was a midway kind of game where you go around the town and collect things. The latter I used to play all the time. :squee:

It seems to be one of those forgotten movies. We could hope for a sequel but most kids these days probably haven’t seen it.

I had the ps1 game, don’t know if it was the same.

I don't think Pixar is TRYING to forget it, I think the Pixar audience already has. There's no money in making a sequel to one of the least popular Pixar films.

There are popular films that was made by Pixar, or Disney, yet never bothered to make a sequel at all despite huge successes.

That's a totally different incomparable thing. Just because there IS money in an idea doesn't mean it will happen or has to happen.

Pixar is moving away from sequels, and for good reason, they've made entirely too many mediocre sequels over the past decade to the point where their audience is largely getting sick of them and critical of Pixar for making them. And of all the Pixar properties to make a sequel out of, a Bug's Life is by far the least popular, more people would want a sequel to Wall-E or Inside Out, and if ANY sequels are going to be made it's probably gonna be one of those. The source material is one of Pixar's least interesting movies and there's no room for a good sequel to work with. Honestly I'm confident if they tried it'd be their worst sequel to date. There's honestly just a multitude of reasons why a sequel will never happen.
