gaming Nintendo thread

As it's already stated on my profile's Interest's section, Nintendo is my most favourite video game company of all time. :D

However, even though I am happy with my Gaming Laptop PC and Wii U combo for the 8th generation, I am disappointed with the fact that Nintendo did a bad job with their marketing strategy for the Wii U. And because of that, the Wii U is not selling well.

Despite the Wii U not selling well, it does have great exclusive games for it. :)

Been a fan since I was a little kid. I'm really liking the direction Nintendo is taking the Switch in, but there is definitely a lot of room for improvement.

At first I rejected the zero, but that was because I simply didn't understand it. Now I do.

I'll never understand why you got a bone to pick with the Wii. Its motion controls and simple gameplay help get non-gamers involved in the fun.

"Games are supposed to be fun. Fun for everyone" As the late Satouri Iwata said.

Not necessarily technologically superior to their competitors.

Games are supposed to be fun. WII games weren’t in comparison. It was never about technology

Wii has No More Heroes 1 and 2. It’s cool as far as I’m concerned

And Fire Emblem Radiant Dawn, but a handful of excellent games will never make-up for comparatively inferior games

They were fun to a lot of people, despite inferior technology. Which in my book is far more impressive than systems like PlayStation where you EXPECT the technology to be superior.

Wii Games were fun enough to get a lot of people OUTSIDE the usual democratic to join in and have fun such as grandparents and retired people. Not to mention having health benefits with physical therapy with some games like Wii Fit and Wii Sports. Simple as that.

Again, it’s not the inferior technology, it’s how soulless the games were in comparison

Cool, but it came at the expense of the games every Nintendo fan was actually excited to own. Metroid Prime 3 wasn’t better than Echoes, much less the first Prime. Same case with Super Paper Mario with it’s predecessors. Mario Galaxy was fun, but got undermined with notorious flaws, and Galaxy 2 accentuated them. Not to mention, little support. I remember well how small were the shelves in GameStop dedicated to WII. It was depressing

Sigh. They weren't soulless to me. It's simply a matter of opinion.

The Super Mario Galaxy games were freaking awesome and challenging and it was a high point in my gaming career when I got EVERY SINGLE STAR. in Both Games in the Summer of 2012.

@Will Guide I feel like the Wii was either a hit or miss with some people. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed it. I loved both Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2 - not to mention the introduction of the Virtual Console. I guess people may have felt that it strayed away from what they were used to, or that it was too gimmicky. Maybe I'm wrong.

And to those people who felt it was too gimmicky, I say, "What's wrong with trying new ways of playing." It gave the system more of an identity. Microsoft and Sony tried to follow the leader with Microsoft Kinect and PlayStation Move but couldn't beat Nintendo at their own game.

It's the reason I love Nintendo Labo. They let people come up with ways of programing their little "cardboard" toy-cons. While I'm not a big programer, I love the discovery of how much things function.

The Switch is great, there hasn't been another console I wanted to buy so many games on it. So far I'm interested in trying out Breath of the Wild, Luigi's Mansion 3 and Yoshi's Crafted World. :kindness:

To be fair, I get why people would say that. I'll admit that the style didn't work well with some games, but when it did, it worked pretty well. I will gave major props to Nintendo for trying something new, since that is never easy.

Nintendo has been in the video game business longer than Sony and Microsoft, and that's no small feat, despite what critics like to call, for kids only, company, despite the fact their products appeal to ANY age group. Nintendo is like the Disney of the Video Game Industry

Fine by you, but I’ve grown up with Nintendo since I was in diapers. And I was born in 91, but was one of the lucky few who had NES-owning parents, yes THE EN-E-ESS ITSELF, and owned every single Nintendo console other than WIIU. So yeah, got a lifetime of happy memories brought by it to see Nintendo to not see it anymore in the WII for me. You can’t imagine how joyful I was when I’ve realized the Switch is it’s great triumphant return. In fact, if it where for me, I’ll demand Switch’s name to be changed to: “NINTENDO IS BACK B14TCH35 :yay:

Well, those people who claim it was too gimmicky, I’ll give them a point from the perspective of third parties, as I believe it’s one of the main reasons for it’s lack of support. As a gamer however... not sure if I’m quick to adapt, but I have yet to find a controller uncomfortable enough to notice. The Nunchuck is no exception. Never had a problem with it

For me, a system's primary identity comes from the quality and number of good, memorable games available on it. Anything else is just fluff, and when that fluff gets in the way of games being good or being able to enjoy the system then that fluff becomes a complete nuisance that has no place being there. For me, that is exactly what happened with the Wii. Not only did the Wii not have too many good, memorable games, but the games and system were held back by the forced motion controls.

For example, Animal Crossing was my top favorite game on the GCN. On the Wii... well, things went south. Not only was the game obviously very uninspired, which led to a poor product altogether, but the forced motion controls ruined certain features. The pattern making feature being one. While I'm not saying the traditional controller method of making patterns in Animal Crossing is amazing or anything (it's very arduous), the Wii made it impossible for me, since in order to make patterns you had to use the Wii Remote's motion control to point and fill in the pattern. I don't have stable enough hands to be able to manage that. If they wanted to make that optional for people who find that more intuitive, fine, but no, nothing on the Wii was ever optional (save for a select few games like Super Smash Bros Brawl and Mario Kart Wii). It was always adapt to this messy, flawed new motion control gimmickry, or you don't get to play.

On top of that, the menu could only be used with the Wii Remote. That may not sound like a big deal, but it was for me when the flimsy wire that connected the sensor got slightly scratched and it no longer worked and we couldn't afford to get me a new one. I couldn't even get into GCN games or other games that didn't require motion control just because the menu required pointing and pressing with the Wii Remote.

Nintendo has come a long way since those days and everything is much better for it. The Wii is the lowest point in Nintendo's history for me (I don't count VB, since it barely even existed for long).

I personally didn’t find any issues with the motion controls, but then again, I can only speak for myself. At most I thought it was just innofensive. However, and I’m repeating myself here, those controls DID get in the way in third party support however.

And I agree, in a commercial standpoint, it was a great success, but for me it was Nintendo lowest point as well. I don’t play for gimmicks, I play for game quality

There are crazy rumors about Nintendo around. I hope the legit new Paper Mario is real

Me, too.

But Nintendo won't give us a Direct to give us any answers on anything and it's getting really frustrating!
