Hierok 11,833 January 11, 2018 Share January 11, 2018 No, I would not like to live there. It's not bad, but I would not feel save with Erdogan, Assad, IS and more around there. MontagnaMagica 307 January 11, 2018 Share January 11, 2018 Yes, in very specific areas, I would! I was contacted by a recruiter for an amusement park in Qatar, and send in my CV and application. Never got the interview though. I'm also looking into some of the new projects in the United Arab Emirates. So, no, I'm not afraid to move to the middle east, but there are only a couple of countries I would consider. As much as I love Persians, for instance, I wouldn't be safe in Iran. 1 Roller Coaster Count: 143 Favorite Roller Coaster: Tatsu Best Pony: Starlight Glimmer (Background Pony: Saffron Masala) Best Episode: Twilight's Kingdom (Single Episode: All Bottled Up) "The earth is but one country, and mankind its citizens" -Bahá'u'lláh
Prospekt 11,034 January 11, 2018 Share January 11, 2018 (edited) I would be fine in the United Arab Emirates, maybe somewhere like Dubai or Abu Dhabi. Apart of that country, though, I would stay away from the Middle East entirely. Too dangerous with wars and whatnot, too much corruption, too much instability, and too hostile to Americans like myself because we've been bombing those countries for decades. Oh, and it's tough being openly Christian in much of the region, apart from Israel and parts of Palestine. Churches get bombed by ISIS, the Taliban, and whatnot. Religious persecution runs rampant. You can even be a Muslim in a Muslim-majority Middle Eastern country and still be persecuted because of the particular sect you belong to. Or your ethnicity. SparklingSwirls 21,511 January 11, 2018 Share January 11, 2018 Oh no it's way too hot . Also yeah, it's pretty dangerous as some others have said. ... I'm reminded of a joke: What's the difference between people in Dubai and people in Abu Dhabi? Castle Bleck 19,440 January 11, 2018 Share January 11, 2018 While I do like the deserts, views, etc., the pros are still heavily outweighed by the cons (e.g.: dictators, terrorists, warzones, etc.). Subscriber Denim&Venöm 20,310 January 11, 2018 Subscriber Share January 11, 2018 Funnily enough, my family and I almost moved to Kuwait. My dad got a big job offer there. But then things like having to get rid of our dog and not getting to eat bacon convinced us not to. As of right now? nope. Terrorism, poverty, political corruption, religious bigotry, extreme gender inequality, rampant crime, multiple on going conflicts and, barring Israel, some of the most incompetent military forces of the 21st century. Oh, and it's too damn hot. Heck, travel.state.gov lists Afghanistan, Iran, Iraq and Syria as Level 4: Do Not Travel.

Guest January 11, 2018 Share January 11, 2018 (edited) Depends, in countries like saudi arabia, UAE, Qatar I would be privileged because I'm a male and as far as I know men have more rights than women in that area, the countries are preety rich so I would pick UAE because of abu dhabi and Dubai. Now I also have Levant, I don't really wanna live there, the whole situation what's happening there, america's aggresion, ISIS and shit like that is distracting me to live there, plus as an conservative european I'm really sceptic about the whole "refugee crysis", but religion wouldn't really matter to me since I'm not a theist and besides that, that's the place where culture and some advanced sciences began to spread and develop, like my favourite science. What I got left is Iran, it's was a beautiful and a peaceful country before the whole situation with ISIS and Obama's policy started to ruin the country and the people. GiFTGewEhrSCHutzen-4 8,833 January 11, 2018 Share January 11, 2018 Maybe back then when I was a kid, from the middle 80s to the early 90s in Saudi Arabia. I enjoyed staying there with my family, just living a normal life there. My Dad was working there for a Lumber Wood company, while my 2 siblings and me studied there at an International School. Of course, we weren’t near a war zone or anything. But as for today, I don’t know if I ever want to live there again. 1 "I'm the Messiah the gnashing of teeth, no one meets death until they see me, I am the Alpha and Omega..." -King
Rhythm Red 6,485 January 11, 2018 Share January 11, 2018 There are places where it would be nice. Certain countries are relatively safe, and those would be fine (though it may be a little hot for me). However, most of the Middle East is fairly dangerous, with all the violence and radical groups and whatnot. 1 MLP Forums' own PUNK ROCK pony! Envy 6,357 January 11, 2018 Share January 11, 2018 No. Not just no, but HELL NO. Can not think of even one good thing about living there, if I was even allowed to 'live' there. You know, the region does not take kindly to people like me. Feminists, atheists, homosexuals, LGBT rights activists, etc. When I say they don't take kindly, I mean I could be executed on top of being treated like dirt. Then there's how dangerous the area is in general. And then there's the fact that the climate would be straight-up intolerable. Can't think of ANY reason I would ever want to live there. The history nerd in me really would like to see the ancient Mesopotamian towns and relics, but... It's too dangerous to even do that. 2 Everything needs more woodwind! Jeric 46,878 January 12, 2018 Share January 12, 2018 Visit? Yes. Live? Not interested at all. All it takes is one strong negative to keep me from living somewhere, and some of those are personal preferences that range from climate to a sense of peace and calm. This is one of my non negotiable opinions. No way in hell would I live in a Middle East county.
King of Canterlot 9,605 January 12, 2018 Share January 12, 2018 No because that part of the world always seems to be in some sort of conflict, plus I always hear about religious persecution of some of the minority religions. I'm not willing to endanger myself by moving out there and risk getting killed on my way to church or killed in some mass civil war/riot. 2 RA RA RASPUTIN
Thuja 3,664 January 12, 2018 Share January 12, 2018 Nope, not really for me. I would like to visit there someday, maybe if they ever improve how they treat LGBT+ people which is probably not in my lifetime.
Snow Frostflame 3,568 January 22, 2018 Share January 22, 2018 America has plenty of deserts so I'm good there. Though I'd pass all together, they aren't fond of gays, they treat women like property, they're extremely religious, ect. The middle east is the last place on earth I'd ever want to visit, I'd more than likely be killed, arrested, or worse. I've seen documentaries of people living there (Sadia Arabia to be exact), and they describe how its nice at first, then it slowly becomes a hell hole. I'd much rather stay here in America, where we have our problems, but they're just minor complaints compared to what they've got going on.
Victoria Sponge 1,019 January 22, 2018 Share January 22, 2018 Even in the places that are safe from warfare it is too hot. Invincible 2,092 January 25, 2018 Share January 25, 2018 Actually, I already DO live there. I live in Israel. Do I want to live here? Usually, it's a yes from me. It's a beautiful country, with a colorful people. Lots of other countries are, around here. I do notice lots of fear in this thread regarding terrorism (not unjustifiable) and violence in the main reasoning to not wanting to live here, and what's really scary to me is that it's practically every day occurrence here, so most people deal with it differently than foreigners. I think the middle East is in a state of healing. The younger generation of the leaders of the countries around here is more progressive and open to new ideas. Take Saudi Arabia for instance, they did establish more laws allowing equal rights towards women, such as with driving, only recently. While I dislike the government corruption the same as everyone, I think that nowadays, corruption happens in most governments, so it's a "non-issue" (in the sense of comparison). Narcissus 356 March 26, 2018 Share March 26, 2018 I wouldn't want the violence and all that, but the desert scenery is amazingly beautiful. I wouldn't want to try living there though, it's not worth it.
