Pegasi cant carry a lot of supplies and soldiers with them

 

They probably have Pegasi carriers, I'm sure Pegasi get tired in flying great distances, and it's nice to have a home base on the sea

If we assume that the pegasi air force can all perform sonic rainbooms, they should still have a good chance at getting to the enemy ships before being shot down.

tanks are 20th century, and rainbbow dash mentioned them, which means at lease WW1 or WW2 era destroyers or something of that nature could possibly be in equestria, but thats just me

The show goes really traditional with the military (note the guards wearing knight's armor) I would think if there was a Navy, it would have masted ships with sails, and would be made of wood, and armed with cannons. Then again, I always imagine Equestria as a landlocked state. Having no access to the ocean at all. So the military would have traditional knight's armor IMO.

Oh and I should've mentioned, ponies can't drive, so tanks are useless if you can't operate it!

I Just have a nagging feeling that Equestria isn't landlocked

 

A. Are there other pony countries in the way?

 

B. i don't think they would be as prosperous without a sea

 

C. I have a feeling that the writers aren't making a landlocked country (why would they? It's more fun to have a beach episode a backup)

 

D. Can you name another show this detailed were they didn't have an ocean? (probably...bad example)

I think what we are really seeing in MLP is an Honor Guard that is more for ceremony, but can use force if they have to. (like the vatican swiss guard, i think)

Well Earth Ponies outnumber the other two kinds (I think) so I'd think the Earth Ponies would make up the backbone of the force while unicorns would be mixed in as specialty, or "heavy" units (maybe one or more per squad) and Pegasi would be scouts / air support. Navy would probably just be ponies with ships.

I know we all say the pegasi would be great for the air force, but and actual pegasi can only carry so much equipment (missiles, bombs, supplies). Don't you think equestrian military might hire Dragon Mercenaries (random thought) to carry everything and to be more "heavy aircraft"

I don't think they have full on wars with each other, but I do believe that there is some sort of protection for equestria, similar to the royal guards.
