animation Worst Disney movies.

Even Disney has made some stinkers. So, in your opinion, what are the worst movies in the Disney canon?

ONLY animated Disney feature films. Otherwise, this topic would just be about the bad straight to DVD sequels.

Chicken Little in 2005. Disney was just getting started doing computer animation films on their own without Pixar.  But hey you got to start somewhere.

Also here's a link to a list of all the official Disney Animated films. So look through that list for the ones you consider the worst

Chicken Little

It feels like more of a Dreamworks movie, and a bad one at that. It's too weird and surreal; the plot is just nonsensical. And many of the characters are super mean-spirited and unlikable.

I'd argue that the 2000s was mostly a bad time for Disney in general, save for some good films like The Emperor's New Groove and Bolt. The departure from 2D animation was saddening. And all of those Disney sequels ranged from serviceable to downright bad.

Look at most of their animated sequel movies. Most of them are garbage (Brother Bear 2, Cinderella 2 and 3), Aladdin 2, Bambi 2, etc.)

I actually didn't mind Bambi 2. It was inoffensive film and didn't do anything to tarnish the original film. I'd say that Bambi 2, The Lion King 2 and Aladdin 3 were among the best of the Disney sequels.

I think the worst was probably The Hunchback of Notredame 2. It completely undermined the original film, the animation was terrible and the story was painfully bad.

Ok, Bambi 2 wasn't as bad as some of the others. Patrick Stewart gives a great performance as the Great Prince and some of the songs are good. But a lot of those sequels were misses than hits.

Mulan, Pocahontas, Hunchback of Notre Dame, and Brave are low points for me.

Mulan, Brave and Pocahontas shove their annoying (and cliche) messages down the viewer's throat, and that always kills a movie for me. Hunchback was all formula and little else. It's terrible to see great animation go to waste when they don't even have a good script to start with.

Not counting the atrocious sequels (except for The Lion King 2, that one's not bad), I have never been a fan of Chicken Little, Brave, Bolt, and Wreck-it Ralph. Outside of Pixar, Disney's 3D animation hasn't been consistently good. There are a few hits, but there are also some misses.

That's easy.

open-uri20150422-12561-19l35dh_b44edd2e.

A needlessly mean-spirited atmosphere and one of the most unlikable fathers in Western animation with jokes that make no sense.

Most of Diney's animated films are good, outside of the 'quels. (Politically, no argument against Disney's treatment of its them park employees, but that's another thread.)

Pocahontas has a much bigger flaw than the formulaic message. It uses a real-life setting and whitewashes it to fit a fictional romantic narrative.

Hunchback is way better than that. The characters themselves feel fully dimensional, especially Frollo, the best and most vile Disney villain. It balances out its serious ton with comedy in betweens so it doesn't feel so heavy. Quasimodo doesn't get the girl, but his story works better that way, because it's about him realizing there's more to his world than being forced to ring the bells and watch his life go by.

As awful as THoND2 is, there's debate whether Mulan 2 is the worst Disney 'quel or film outside of Home on the Range or Chicken Little, too. They got a good case here, TBH.

I remember hating Home on the Range as a kid when it first came out, thinking it was incredibly lame and a terrible final outing for 2D Disney(since this was before we got Princess and the Frog came out). At least CL got a few laughs out of me

Too bad Princess and the Frog and Winnie the Pooh underperformed, or Disney would keep making 2D movies.

I could argue that Cinderella 3 was still a low point, but far better than the second :dash:. Hunchback 2 was horrid, all the bad secuels are master pieces compared to that. I'd rather watch a lame series of mini stories, a lame gourney to a foreigh country with a bad everybody gets married plot, a boring Christmas interquel, and a movie whose only good highlight is having Twilight Sparkle as a mermaid rather than that crap :eww:

Disregarding the straight to DVD movies(cause lets be frank, they were straight to DVD for a reason.), Moana was by far the most horribly executed and made movie to date. So many things politically incorrect in that movie. Animation reminded me of Toy Story. While being a good movie for its time, 90s era CGI is best left in the 90s.

Chicken Little for me. It just boggles me that such a mean-spirited film exists. It's literally hard for me to watch it without shutting it off.

Closest to that would be the Black Cauldron for the annoying lead characters and that nothing interesting happens; outside of the Horned King. He is the only interesting thing in the film for me.

  • Chicken Little. The animation was absolutely terrible, and most of it seemed to be the emotional equivalent of Chicken Little torture porn, and otherwise it had nothing there.
  • Mulan 2. Not as bad as Chicken Little, but it has similar problems with mean-spirited characters and a more than lackluster plot.
  • Home on the Range. Boring and unmemorable, and probably one of 2D Disney's ugliest movies (even being one of its last).
  • Pocahontas. Just, yuck. I didn't think it was too bad as a kid, but when I think about it now, I'm disgusted.

I generally don't have the greatest opinion of Disney. The only movies of theirs (not counting Pixar, of course) that I watched and I really liked were Lilo and Stitch, Emperor's New Groove, and the first Mulan movie. It isn't mostly that though, but it is a contributing factor. Most of the ones I remember watching suffer from being unmemorable in my mind. I remember watching a lot of the movies, but not how good they were.

I give the film credit for trying something different at least. I do want to see the original cut since it may have added some additional Horned King scenes. Also, poor Princess Eilonwy. The only Disney Princess not treated as an actual Princess. :(

Don't forget Princess Kida...which kinda escalates that point for the both of them.

Chicken Little. Unlikable Townspeople, Buck Cluck is more interested in his reputation than his son (until the climax), and Runt of the Litter keeps Foxy Loxy brain-scrambled simply because she can sing 'Lollipop'. It could be better. Otherwise...

Two things:

1. Why do you think Zootopia was almost a flop?

2. Why would box office performance be a determination on entertainment value for you personally?

Why do you think Zootopia flopped? With a budget of $150 million, it made over $1 billion worldwide and won an Oscar last year for best animated film. If you just didn’t like the movie, then that’s fine but to say that is flopped does not hold up.
