Honestly? Being behind only matters so much when one can utilize a gimmick that enough people are fond of... which seems to be working like a charm so far. Sure, they may struggle to entice more dedicated gamers... but in truth, serious gamers are a minority when compared to the casual audience. Hell, it can be argued that Nintendo's properties alone can entice the more hardcore gaming crowd... which is certainly true. Either way, Nintendo isn't exactly struggling right now, so even though they may be behind in terms of hardware, and certain games due to that... they're clearly doing something correctly.

As for myself? I'm honestly not terribly interested in any of Nintendo's franchises these days... but that's just me; I'm clearly in the minority.

On topic though, I haven't really been paying attention to Nintendo for the past decade. The last nintendo console I ever used was the Wii many years ago. I wish I could say more about Nintendo being behind and such but I'm not the kind of person who can do that.

Yes, and Nintendo does some pretty dark stuff too. Take Kirby for example, he’s all cute and cuddly and stuff but the final boss of that game is always a really freaky Hellspawn. There was also the shadow temple and the Kakariko well, the Shroobs and the Underwhere.

I am quite annoyed at the areas that Nintendo is behind on, especially in light of the fact that they're going to start charging us for their shoddy online services that are so behind everyone else that they still use flipping Friend Codes. (The Wii U actually moved away from Friend Codes, but it seems like Nintendo always takes the wrong lessons and then makes a fortune with something subpar and forgets about the good they did. I can't imagine how they could possibly think that FCs would fly again, though. Jesus)

With that said, I take a look at your topic and wonder what you're even aiming for here- Is it genuine curiosity or are you just wanting to starting another Nintendo hating topic? There was practically no substance to your first post, so I can't help but think it is the latter.

As a PC hardware nerd, I can pretty confidently say Nintendo has been behind for at least a decade or two. There's no question.

But that's just what they do. They're neither a cutting-edge hardware company like Sony, nor a cutting-edge software company like Microsoft. Nintendo is really their own thing. It's probably true that Nintendo won't present the first console to feature true 4K 60 FPS gaming, real-time ray tracing, high-resolution VR, or anything else that I'd like to see. But that's clearly not their goal.

Nintendo is Nintendo, and they're not really behind because they're not really even in the race at all.

Yup. When the game first came out in 2000, it scared me as a kid, then 5 years later I finally got my own copy and even today, it's still my most Zelda Game of all time. Even its 3DS made some great improvements to the gameplay.

I like both. I never play video games outside of my house though, so on TV console is probably better for me because bigger screen. Then again, the Switch is both, so no worries there!

Yeah the other big companies havent really shown much either, I was mainly talking about indie games, and other not so well known and more obscure games They to me at least have the most to show for in the new innovative ideas department, but maybe that isn't a fair comparison.

yeah i never touched those games either I mean it is a decent concept but i think it has blown out of proportion a bit.  I think Nintendo games have more substance than those shooters which I dont think really have much depth in them at all. I would play Nintendo game any day over them.

While Nintendo has been slower than their competitors on some things, it really doesn't bother me. Yes, they've done a few things that have left me confused, but the quality of their games usually makes up for it.

One area Nintendo is behind in is how they see people posting gameplay videos. Remember the creators program and it's set of rules that people had to abide by? To give an example of how bass ackwards this is, EA, fucking EA, doesn't care if anyone posts videos. They see it as free advertisement, which is exactly what it is. But no, Nintendo has to control what is shown and what the person who made the video says.

Oh, and requiring an app just to be able to use voice chat? Fuck off with that.

Nintendo is better than they have been. They finally got rid of region locking with the Switch, they have successful mobile games, and allow cross-play with Microsoft.

Also, the Switch has a share button.
