(Sisters)

Seemed like he were taking off in quite the hurry... *sigh* Hopefully it were not something she said poorly. She really, truly wished that he would have a good relationship with her sister, and that they'd be happy together. But he had to feel his heart in this too, and not just do it, because he thought it would make her happy. Cause she knew her sister, and while Null would be happy having him there, she wouldn't be happy, about his reasons. She had lived by those same reasons, for most of her life, and knew what misery could come from it. She would not want that for Arcade. She cared too much for him, that were plain to see.

Hopefully the two would open up, and have a talk about this. Love were an awkward, yet magical thing, that one shouldn't shun the chance of pursuing. Advise that many of them, could do well in living by.

She'd smile a little for herself, and follow the path of Arcade and Null, though doing so slowly. She'd give them some time to speak alone.

Unless something happened on Null's end, there would be no more events that night, early the next morning Selena was at their door, "Good morning, and congratulations on the new additions to your family!" If Void wasn't the one who answered the door she'd wait for Void to come to the door before continuing, "I figured you'd appreciate the option, and it's up to you, but I can find someone to sub in for you in regards to your assignment for some of the next few days if your family needs you here, just let me know. We've already vetted a few creatures to serve as official medical personnel and teachers, we're hoping to get them evaluated for placement in school over the next few weeks if you think they'll be up to it."

Nothing would seemingly happen though. Null would greet him as he caught up to her, and unless he addressed it, she'd spend the evening with inner turmoil, whilst she did hers to make sure the foal's room were done. Including with the toys that her and Void had made, or acquired. There were still ample amounts of time for some sleep afterwards, so they'd be fine, when morning began, and a visitor came for them.

Void were indeed the one answering the door, as Null once more, were stubbornly trying not to wake up, and if Arcade were still in bed, would be nibbling softly on his ears, as she were half asleep, unaware of her actions. If he was risen, she'd do so to a pillow instead.

"Goodmorning, Selena. And thank you for the well wishes. The two are still with mom at the hospital, but they're a pair of healthy, adorable little scamps.

But did I hear right? The others go to school? Already? That's surprisingly fast, but I'm sure they'll be thrilled about it. And I wouldn't mind some assistance, but I wouldn't just leave them alone constantly. They're my family, just as mom, dad, Null, and the little new ones, are my family. They all count on me, so I'll just have to share my time between them, as best I can.

Besides, they've told me some things, that makes me even more sure than ever, that I would never want, to make them feel like I were abandoning them. In fact, do you mind if I get to see the ones, who'd be candidates, for helping them? I'd like it if I know, they were in good hooves, the times when I can't be there."

It would mean that she'd need more time, before she could go and talk to Molotov, but if he were worth anything, he'd understand her need for focusing on her family, and those who depended on her, before anything else.

The door opened for her when she knocked, revealing the Consul reclined on the bed as Celestia often did on a couch when relaxing, the chairs in the room not having been built for his alicorn frame. "Queen Bling I presume? I mean no offence, but you are not what I was expecting when I heard that there was a new queen in New Pegasus. Still, let us talk." He gestured to a nearby seat, "Please, make yourself comfortable, as you've already made quite the effort to make me comfortable, an effort I greatly appreciate."

Bling could sure feel him, aye, as should he be able to feel what came from her. Utter awe, and foal-like wonder. It should be rather clear to him, that she had never seen an alicorn before in her life, and were really stricken by the fact she not only saw one now, but that he had actually come to see her. A bit starstruck, one might say.

Even Bruce, stoic as he remained on the outside, did have some awe. Yet also nostalgia, which overtook more, much as he tried to suppress his emotions. He had seen an alicorn before the war began. Not Celestia or Luna though. No, he had managed to catch a glimpse, of her radiance, Princess Arabian Nights, of Saddle Arabia. A mission he had been ordered to accompany some others to, got them accidentally stuck in a container, on a boat, as they were hiding from some guards, and they had to stay in Saddle Arabia for three days, before they could return. Much as they stayed hidden, and he were sure that they had not been seen, he had managed to spot her radiance a single time, as she flew across the skies, to the delight of the masses. She had been such a breathtaking sight to behold, that he could scarcely believe it possible, for anyone to be as her, and it had stayed with him.

The Consul were... Not as impressive, to put it charitably. Yet seeing an alicorn, did give him that nostalgic, melancholic feeling, as he wondered yet again, if her radiance had survived the war. It could not have escaped Saddle Arabia, that were certain, yet they were far from it. Weren't like they heard news from that far away, here in New Las Pegasus. The odds were low though, considering that Illiad had to deal with the sun and moon, and not her, who were more experienced. Then again... He never really did understand, why this tended to be done from Equestria in the first place. Maybe it were regional, to some extend? Had he the time, he would ask it, but now were not it. This were his queen's meeting, and she were about to give her first response, after gaining control of herself, and lessening that starry-eyed, gleeful look on her face.

"Oh, sorry about that. I've just never met an alicorn before. It's a pleasure to have you here, Consul Easle. And you cause no offense. Be it changelings or otherwise, when others hear, that New Las Pegasus have a queen, they do not expect someone like me. But things just sort of evolved rapidly. Used to be that me and my siblings just tried to keep up moralle. Then we began to organize things around our old theater, to provide shelter and food, to the other changelings that came to town. I guess, over the years, the others began to default me as their leader, without me really thinking about it. And for changelings, that's usually given the royal title. It's not what I ever had in mind, but it helps them, to have someone they can look at for leadership, and that's all that matters.

But I don't mean to talk your ear off.

Oh! And I almost forgot, a more proper introduction. As you surmised, I'm Bling, and this here's my bodyguard Bruce. He'll make sure to keep the room secure while we talk."

He'd bow before them, then go and place himself in front of the door as it closed, on the outside, leaving them some privacy to talk. Time where the Consul spoke more, yet she'd wait to answer until the door were closed proper, and she had the chance to go sit on the seat that the consul seemed to want her to use. Seemed a good seat, so she didn't mind.

He adopted a more serious expression, "Now, I can't say I'm too familiar with hoe Hive Cheshire operated previously, but I worked very closely with Hive Permu before everything fell apart. There are still hundreds of changelings within Troy's borders that lack the guidance that a queen provides. It is my hope that we can come to an arrangement that gives you the resources you need to properly care for and support the changelings under my protection, in addition to your own, until Queen Permu returns with the Æther."

"Our mother believed more than anything, that us changelings should live openly, and harmoniously with the ponies of Las Pegasus. She rose us to not only be pacifists, but to harvest emotions in the least intrusive way, by the collection vats, that we might never starve, yet also never harm a soul. Even in the times when changelings had to be hidden in Equestria, we would sneak around, not to seek conquest, but to marvel at the splendor of equine culture, and partake in it, best we could. And after King Thorax's reformation... *sigh* I know many does not agree with what he became, yet his actions still marked the day, when changelings were allowed to stand proud and tall in Equestria again, albeit tentatively.

And Cheshire, she did not squander it. She took us to the mayor of the old Las Pegasus, and presented us, telling him our intentions, and caved to every demand he made of us. We are ever a hive of performers, and so, we were given some shelter in the town, under the condition we'd always open our door for questions, and inspections. Cheshire did not just that, as we began repaitrinf the old theater, but also worked tirelessly, to have us interact with the public, have them see our performances, and send us out, to educate others. Even at the schools, which did turn odd a few times, but we could tell it was helping. Her dream were coming through... Until the crisis came.

We know not what became of her, but we continue her dream, and hope she'll return home to us. That is how I wish to operate too, Consul Easle. With openness, compassion, and joy. That Mr. House so graciously, and unprompted, left this casino to us, meant that we now have the finances needed, to support any changeling we have, or might come to this town. And if there are some in Troy, who yearns for the familiarity of a hive, and their own kin, we will welcome them with open hooves, and no strings. They may stay or leave as they please, though if they wish to stay, we will gladly help them find employment, or purpose. We can offer treatment, mentally or physically too, if needed.

No changelings in Las Pegasus, knew enduring hunger when Cheshire were last here, and I will not allow it either. In fact, I would like to extend an offer of a supply of changeling gel for you to have on your return, if you would have it? I ask for nothing in return, than your word, that it would go to those who needed it. Perhaps I can even find a few volunteers, to accompany you, and help set upo some collection vats? They're utterly harmless, I assure you. I wouldn't want to sully my mothers good name, by taking emotions by force. She always find that the most distasteful of things, and felt sorrowful for any changeling, desperate enough to feel they needed to do so."

It might set back the situation of ascension a week or two at worst, but she cared little, if it meant that there would be food for those who had a need of it, in Troy. As he himself said, there were hundreds there, within their border. Some might be starving, and the mere thought made her heart sink. If she could help, she would do so.

"With more permanent arrangements, I am sure we can come to an agreement, Consul Easle, though I cannot promise I can give you an answer on this day. I am still new to these higher responsibilities, and as such, I have others, more experienced changelings, and New Las Pegasus residents, whose opinions would be greatly appreciated, before making a decision of such potential magnitude.

I am thrilled to hear that Queen Permu will return one day too. We have some here, who speak of her with reverence. I would be a happy changeling, to meet her some day. Though about that, could I ask what you know of The Æther? When it might return? It might soothe some hearts, if you had any inkling of how long it could be."

Okay, so far so good, right? She hadn't embarrassed herself too badly, she were polite, explained things, and offered him help, to the changelings from Troy. That seemed a good start, even though she did feel like she were nervous babbling a little bit. Though in her defense, she were sitting in front of an actual, living legend. The pony that had defeated Discord, and the current raiser of both sun and moon. She never expected to be in the same town, much less same room, as one like him.

He seemed to feel like a genuinely nice pony too. Several layers, of understandable emotions, with none of them seemingly being malice, or spite. That were always a good start, yeah?

He'd lift himself up out of the bed, wiping the drool off of his ear, he sighed, "Well, today's the day we start training Ardee, unless the new foals upset those plans? In either case, we'll need to talk to her. What's the plan for training?"

Selena nodded, "Of course! We're not planning on letting anyone interact with them without the approval of you or Vale, or Ada in the case of Elef. They'll be moving in to the building where the young ponies are in preparation over the next few days, just let me know when you want to meet them and I'll organize a time for you to interact."

Her expression grew a little more concerned, "I've read in Vale's reports that there are plans for Ardee to go off on her own? I'm not opposed to those plans, from what Vale's written it seems to be a good solution for her image issues and I'm sure she'll be in good hooves with Null, I just want to make sure that you are okay with it, and that the other ponies will be able to understand."

But I don't mean to talk your ear off.

The Consul chuckled, "Not at all, you're far from the most talkative creature I've interacted with in recent years, and far more pleasant. You remind me of Queen Delphi before she fully matured. It surprises me though that you've never seen Princesses Celestia or Luna, the Summer Sun Celebration was held in Las Pegasus oh, ten years before the war? Maybe that was before your time. And I know Princess Luna appeared at the Harvest Feast at least once after the war, albeit briefly, maybe you just missed her then." He shrugged, "Nonetheless, I am not something to be worshipped, my power came at great sacrifice, but I am just as fallible as any other creature."

The Consul's expression didn't shift there, but his emotions betrayed that he did.

He didn't interrupt though, and let Bling finish her thoughts before responding.

He nodded once she finished, "I do appreciate your offer of food, but Hive Permu operated under similar practices, and their vats are still fully operational. They luckily do not lack for food, and with moral improving overall they have been getting higher quality food as of late. They've been operating mostly on auto-pilot since Queen Permu left, going through the motions, unable to respond well to changes. All we really ask of you is that you serve to guide them. Help them stay organized and keep them focused. That will likely mean you traveling to and from Troy on occasion. Though, given your stature, they may not accept you as their interim queen."

He thought a minute, "I've heard of an old ritual from Queen Delphi that can convert a pony into a changeling king, perhaps that would help you legitimize your claim?" He shrugged, "Just a thought. You'd need to find a pony that you trusted completely to fill that role."

In regards to the Æther, the Consul nodded, "I know quite a bit about it, my wife was, is, one of its principle designers. It was designed to preserve civilization in the event that Discord managed to completely collapse it. To return once things had sufficiently calmed as to be safe to rebuild. According to the prophecy it will be in about 20 years. But there's no way of knowing until the day it touches down. Many have spotted it in the sky on occasion, usually not for long before it disappears again. Such was it's design to evade Discord, and now it evades us." He sighed, "I don't blame them, they have no way of knowing for sure that this is not a trick by Discord. A trap. Better that they are safe."

He sighed again, "In regards to your Queen... You have my deepest condolences. I hope it will bring you some solace to know that she was judged deserving of a great mercy." He didn't outright say that she was dead, but that much should be obvious.

Null weren't aware what she were doing, before she had been made aware of it. And the last one would see, before she dove under the covers again, were her bright-red face, over what she had just done. Why were this starting to become a habit?!

It'd be a few seconds of her staying under said covers, after he had spoken, before Null responded. Though she were Not getting out from there right now. Way too embarrassing.

"Y-Yeah, we'll... Look into training Ardee, right. Need to ask her how she uh... Feels about wing blades too, and stuff. I'll go home when we uh, have a break or something."

She'd find time to deal with both of them. Might not offer her much sleep, but that was fine. She could deal without sleep for a few days, if it was needed.

(Void)

"It's good to hear our opinions will be weighed in, and for the uh... *sigh* You heard right, and I'm not thrilled about it. I'd want her to stay, where she can be nice and safe. But much as I'd want that for her, I see in her eyes, that she's determined. I can't stop her, nor should I, much as I want to. She wants to find her own path in life, away from here. It's admirable, but so very, very dangerous. So we're gonna help her. Prepare her for the road, you know? Make her some equipment, train her, and everything else needed.

It makes me a little at ease, that her first trip is with Arcade and Null, but after that... *sigh* I get he feeling, that I'll never stop worrying for her.

Uhm... S-Sorry, I didn't mean to uh, r-ramble like that. I guess I've just gotten attached to them all. It pains me to to think what might happen to them out there.

I uhm... Should probably put the cards on the table too. I am not sure if you've met him, but there's a stallion that's come to town. Molotov Boom. He's been very uh... Forthcoming, and I'll probably spend some time when everything's settled, to see what he's like. He's got a big mouth, so if you see him, try to uh..: Try to... Oh boy..."

She'd be trailing off, and her eye go elsewhere, as she spotted something behind Selena. Specifically, something large, shiny, and as it took note of her, now also no longer in motion.

Felicia had been told, that she were allowed in town, so she had figured that this time of day, were perhaps not the most trafficked, and thus, would go in to assess things a little. It had gone fairly well so far. Only been two that had run away from her, and one case of a weapon being raised. She hadn't attacked back, or even threatened. She were well aware, that her permission to enter town, could as easily be taken away, as it could be granted. As thus, she had to be careful, and travel down paths less traversed currently. Which right now, had led her here, after going through an alley, allowing her passage. She had not sought out Void, yet she now saw her, so it seemed proper to raise a leg in greeting. Void would do the same, yet gulp. She knew who this were alright, and hoped this wouldn't cause some sort of disturbance.

Provided nothing happened, Felicia would skitter along soon enough. She weren't headed for the main square today, but were contend having a look around the less important areas, like this. Small steps here.

She also still had the one leg, that were not colored the same. Molotov would need more time, and a proper workshop, before he could properly galvanize a leg in the right way for her, and that'd still take some days.

"The Summer Celebration weren't before my time, but me and my siblings, were very young then, and Cheshire worried about us getting exposed in Las Pegasus, during such an important event. She figured the guards would be extra trigger happy, when the princess were there.

And sadly, before the next event, where Princess Luna might have shown, we had to lay extra low. Curse be Chrysalis, and all of her cruelty... A tiny hive like ours, couldn't take risks, and after we did start to make our mark, I sadly missed the first, and only, celebration I would've had the chance at seeing. Our whole hive had gotten the flu, so we were mostly bedridden for a few days. Go figure, huh?

And please don't misunderstand me Consul Easle. I'm not enticed with all your power, or think your life's easy. The things you did, and the responsibilities you have- I've sent some good wishes your way more than a few times, and hoping you weren't as burdened down with everything, as I worried you might be. I also don't worship others. But seeing an alicorn in the flesh, and especially here to see little ol' me? I have to admit, I feel a little giddy, hehe."

Dangerous things happened, when you viewed others like gods. The dragons could attest to that, though just in general, worshipping others like that, just seemed weird to Bling. Sure the Consul were powerful, immortal, and important, but he were still a living, breathing creature, like the rest of them. He had his ups and downs, like any of them had, and while he should obviously be shown respect, due to his position, it didn't seem right, to view him as some otherworldly creature. Honestly, she felt more sympathetic about his position. She had a taste of what responsibility were, and she certainly felt the pressure every now and again. And his were of way higher importance. Couldn't be easy sometimes, having all of that on his shoulders.

She felt her heart skip a beat, when the mention of the ritual came up, and her mind immediately went towards Rasputin. At this point, news of his presence in New Las Pegasus, had spread here and there, as not all kept their mouths closed. Rumors would inevitably go free, though how much stock others took into those things, were something else entirely. A rumor were one thing, reality another, and seeing how the changelings were shapeshifters, who could even say it was the real, long deceased him, and not just a pretender, or a performance? There'd be healthy skepticism, unless he came out, and revealed himself to the public, by his own volition.

Shed encourage him to go open, but she could understand why he wouldn't be thrilled about it. And why he'd probably appreciate, that she did not breathe a word of him to The Consul. Best to not cause unneeded discourse, yes?

"It's a relief to hear that they're taken care of, though if ever something happens, just send word, and we'll come to help. Be it an influx, or broken vats, we'll lend a hoof.

I've never travelled to Troy before, but if it helps them, then sure, I'd be happy to do that, and try and help what I can. We have some changelings from a lot of various hives here, so perhaps it will ease them a little, if they see how many have rallied around. It's probably the best I can do right now. Even if I did know the ritual you're talking about, I am not sure who I'd offer it to. It's not a choice to be taken lightly, by anyone involved."

She weren't lying. She honestly had no idea how that ritual would work. She hadn't asked Rasputin, since she figured that might be a little private, and she didn't want to risk offending him.

"So upwards of 17 years more then? Or were the three years since the crisis started, not included? It's a long time, but it's still a better answer to offer others, than just telling them to keep up hope, and not worry that it's not coming back at all. I'll keep it to heart, and hope that it eases at least some of those I speak with, for even a little while.

It sounds as if you have family waiting for you on board, Consul Easle? I hope for them to return sooner, rather than later then, and that your reunion will be joyous."

And speaking of family reunions... Now came the one, that many brought up. She knew folks meant well, but it did get taxing, that almost everyone, believed that Cheshire were dead, when there were no proof of that. Still, she'd respectfully answer, as she tended to. Just because the notion tired her some, did not mean that she had to be rude about it. Her mother would not approve.

"Don't underestimate Cheshire, Consul Easle. She might not have had a big hive, but Queen Cheshire ever were, one of the best performers, who ever lived. I know in my heart that she's still out there somewhere, hiding, and biding her time, to come home to her children, and we'll stand with welcome with open hooves, when she does.

I appreciate the kind words though. It is always good to hear from someone, who can yet feel sympathy for those, they have not even met. And I know she'll appreciate the well wishes, when she comes back. It'll probably make her laugh too."

Perhaps the denial were strong. None had seen the queen, in three years after all, but then again, she had always been good at blending in, and hiding. Taking on roles, with incredible efficiency. Without proof, there were little to nothing, that the consul could do, to convince her. And a vision wouldn't do. It had to be more tangible, like physical evidence. Such as a certain changeling, who'd be following the wayward king home, after hearing Hive Cheshire yet stood.

"Anyway, I am sorry to say, that I weren't told a ton about what Mr. House and you were planning, Consul Easle, so might you please share that with me? The other casino heads are worried, and I won't lie, I will have to tell them, what it is you tell me about this. Though I am sure that you're here with good intentions, and some are just worried for nothing.

I look at it, like a new day is dawning, and we'll need to come together, to rebuild all that we've lost. The closer we all get together, instead of being isolated, the better. I am not sure of that were Mr. Houses wish too, but he were an honorable stallion. I feel confident, that he had good intentions, and reached out because he trusted you. I won't taint his memory by going against that, so easily."

(Null)

Arcade has a somewhat amused look on his face as he watched Null hiding under the blanket, deciding to take advantage of her obscured vision to get closer without her noticing. His only warning before drawing her into a surprise hug was a soft, "Sounds good." To give her a bit of warning so she didn't immediately attack him upon being grappled.

He'd hold her like that for only a few moments before letting her go, unless she protested too much then he'd let go immediately.

Once they settled down he'd head over to the door, "Sounds like your sister is talking to someone at the door, I'll go check and make sure everything is alright."

(Void)

Selena looked sympathetic to Void's concerns for Ardee, "The sad truth of the matter is that it's a dangerous world out there, and it will be for a long time. The world is going to need protectors and adventurers, those who are willing to do what is dangerous to keep others safe. It is good to worry, it shows that you care, but I'm confident she'll be alright. She made it this far after all, and kept the others safe until now."

In regards to Molotov, Selena raised an eyebrow, "Really? The two of you? I wouldn't have thought, I guess opposites do attract after all. Still, I hope this won't cause issues with your care for the ponies, given the... incidents... he's been involved with previously I don't think he'll be cleared to interact with them, especially given Vale's misgivings about him. Until that changes, you'll need to keep him separate from them."

Selena didn't react to Void trailing off in regards to Felicia, at least not visibly, she didn't turn to look at the spider-bot, "Oh, that? Don't worry, we're keeping a close eye on her, she hasn't caused any major problems yet, and we hope that none will come up."

That taken care of Selena nodded, "Alright, if there's nothing else you need from me I'll be off. Just let Vale know when you want to meet the candidates and she'll organize it since she lives there already."

He shook his head, "But that's neither here nor there."

There was a distinct sense of pity to the Consul, and as much as he wanted to argue that where Sleipnir and her hundred guards fell, what chance did one minor queen have of surviving, it wasn't in his nature to belittle the grief of others. He hoped that some day soon she would learn and accept the truth.

The Consul shook his head, "I can't say we got beyond the initial stages of negotiation before Mr. House's untimely passing, just enough to establish the embassy in his territory. Technically we do not have the permission to station as many guards here as we have, and as the situation stabilizes we will be withdrawing forces, but we would like to get that permission squared away with you officially. Also, while Las Pegasus was previously part of the Trojan Empire, we have no intention of reintegrating it until the rail lines are re-established and even then only if the citizens agree to it, just as before. For now we are only interested in facilitating trade, such that the free exchange of goods, creatures, and ideas can be maintained. It is in our best interests to cooperate so that we may both flourish."

She wouldn't attack him, when he hugged her under the blanket, per se. She more... Leaned in to him, to accept his attention, though she still weren't getting out. She could just feel how she were brightly red, and she were embarrassing herself enough as it were, in her mind. Gods, she had never been more red in her life, than she had, the short time knowing him. Or at least not in fifteen years time.

Once they settled down he'd head over to the door, "Sounds like your sister is talking to someone at the door, I'll go check and make sure everything is alright."

She didn't protest his attention, but she would slump over, as she hadn't anticipated him walking off already, and thus, as she kept leaning in... Well, her face did not get any less red, that much were certain.

"I'll uh... Be there soon. Just need to freshen up, or something."

It'd be about five minutes, as she also wanted to take a brush through her mane, in which time Arcade had long since gotten down to see Void, likely. Before or after Selena left, she'd probably first address him after, unless he made his presence known. As for how she addressed him? Well, she'd get a small jump scare, then ask him if he had slept well. That seemed as good of an opening question, as any.

"He knows w-where they are. Or where I go, anyway, but it seems he's r-respecting that he shouldn't be there. And I uh... Don't know. It feels kinda nice to be longed for, but I'll h-have to see. There's more important s-stuff to deal with right now."

She didn't know how things might end up, but it had felt pretty nice, to be told that he had been thinking about her for these past three years, and were as fiery in his approach as the day she first met him. Back then, she had been mortified, but now... She weren't sure. She felt a lot calmer these days, than she did back then, and weren't as affected by things. It made her think of a lot of things in different lights.

Molotov were very much but a thought currently, and she would admit, she had some incentive to try and be on his good side currently, due to what he could do. Yet still... He seemed to be a genuinely good stallion, beneath his idiocy, and when she had read the note about what he had done, and from what she had seen, she felt certain that he truly regretted what he had been part of, and wanted to do better. She'd have to see for herself, she supposed, but it would speak well to his character. What came of it beyond that, they'd see.

"A-And you know, there's more to it. He uh... H-His designs I mean, could help us. His wing design is impressive, and could h-help some who need them, yes? A certain uhm, filly in particular..."

Selana would likely know whom she were talking about with that. She'd likely also know that Molotov had willingly given over most of his designs already to the Consul, including those of his newer, less intrusive wings, compared to those she had seen him with when she first saw him. A pair that had a reasonably low, yet still existing, chance of causing complete paralysis, when he had the chip installed on his spine. He'd been fortunate, but it wasn't something that he had wanted widely used. Thus, had he ever strived for better ones. And the consul had his newest, more sensible design. It'd still require a surgeon, but the implant were much safer, and the surgeon were mostly to ensure it stuck properly, and the wound didn't get infected.

Void were not aware, that he had given all those things over, and thus, there weren't theoretically much need for him, to make those. Though it would be hard to argue against, him being the most prominent at making them, seeing how he had made them. For the time being, it'd probably be best for the consul, to find some tech heads, and study the designs in full, before doing anything with them too. Just to make sure they understood all the parts right. Especially the chip. That one could not be made poorly, or there'd be long term consequences. As were written in the schematics, the wings were the easy part.

As Felicia were not further addressed, she assumed that she had intruded upon a time, when the two were busy, and would be on her way again. She believed she heard others, from the direction she had been heading, so she'd turn, and wander down a side path again instead. She'd make herself better known eventually, but small steps, seemed the wisest approach to things.

"Wha- Oh yes, y-yes, of course. I'll talk it over with Vale, and we'll find a time. Have a good day, Selena."

She'd wave, as Selena left. She had nothing else to discuss with the judge currently, beyond some regular chatter, on if she were doing alright, but it seemed she had things to do. Best not to spend too much of her time, right?

"Even if it might be a rocky start, I'd think the important thing, were that they are alive. Not everyone can say that about their family members, unfortunately. And long as they live, there's time to catch up, to reconnect, and to rekindle the spark.

Have faith, Consul Easle. It might take time after they return, but you're still your wife's husband, and your daughters father. I trust they'll want to speak with you.

And who knows? Perhaps even some grandfoals might come along, and I'm sure they'd want to see their grandpapi. Don't you?"

She'd smile, and radiate hope, in nearly visible waves. Not as a sort of manipulative move, but more because she actually, genuinely believed her words, and hoped for a bright future for the consul, when his family would return. And really, she could totally see him, as the dotting grandfather, spoiling his grandfoals rotten with attention and gifts. She were sure that too, would eventually become part of the consul's life. Just a matter of time, and effort, on his behalf, when his family returned. Twenty years were a long time indeed, but if he put in the work, he'd most likely be able to connect with them.

"Sounds reasonable to me. Regarding the guards presence, I've spoken with Peace about some measures that can be taken, and I'm hopeful it will lead to something fruitful. If you want it official, we can work out some papers, and have them signed, so everything's set in writing.

I think there is some fear of... How do I put this... Forced reintegration, into the Trojan Empire. It will take a lot of time, if the opinion of the locals are to be swayed from that, and even then, more might enjoy their independence. But that's for the future, right? For now, we should establish the ground work, and making connections via trade and such. Cause I agree with you, and that's what I've told the others too: We need to cooperate. The world's a lot smaller, and more volatile now, even without the spawn. If we're to flourish properly, we need to find ways to work together, and if there's burned bridges, try and mend them.

What's the old saying... Together we stand, but divided we fall? Something like that."

She'd use her horn, and float a single caramel from the half-eaten bowl over, to chew upon merrily. She didn't plan to do so, but this were going so well, she felt like a minor celebration. It seemed he had still plenty enough, and if need be, they could make some more. She for sure knew of a few chefs at least, that'd be thrilled to know that the consul himself, had eaten, and clearly enjoyed the fruits of their labor.

She'd ask *what could possibly go wrong?* but that just felt like an invitation, for Rasputin to come into the room, so best not to risk it. Though he were probably still far from here.

*sigh* She hoped he were doing well. It felt a little empty around here, without him.

Selena would pause as Arcade entered the area, a concerned look on his face, "What's this about Toupé? They still don't know that they're clones right? Ardee and I agreed with Mistress Gemini that they shouldn't be burdened with that knowledge."

Selena shook her head, "It's not that, and I'm inclined to agree with you that they don't need to know about the circumstances of their conception. No, we're referring to another aspect of Toupé."

Arcade looked concerned, turning to Void, "What's this about?"

(I remember that Void, her mother, and Vale know about it, I don't know if Ardee or Arcade have previously said that they know about it. Has Void mentioned it to Toupé?)

"We... Talked about it, after mom had examined them, and saw her back. We haven't told her anything, and I hope we can avoid the topic of cloning, altogether, but... She's still a pegasus, and I am concerned, if her lacking wings have, or will, cause her some sort of duress. That's one reason why I'm speaking to Molotov. You saw his wings, yes? I know for a fact, that they work. It could be an option. But then would come up, having to explain what she lost... *sigh* It's like we whispered about yesterday. It's not easy.

Maybe it's best to not tell her, but then, what if she does feel it in her bones? She might not have, in facilities, and trying to survive in dungeons, but calm and safe, she might feel it in her, when she sees the big, open sky above her... Null talked about those things a lot, when we were younger, and she only had a single flight. Yet she kept saying that she felt the call, whenever there were some semblance of calm...

Maybe it's best to just wait, and see what happens. If she feels anything, and can't explain it, we might have to tell her something, and offer to help. If not... There's no need to turn her life upside down, if it isn't important."

She had been thinking about this more, since the start, and it may have been a little... Pushy, for her to try and even decide this, in the first place. It wasn't her life, and thus, not her decision. It were Toupé's, and if she didn't feel wrong, then it were perhaps best to not mess with things, by either telling her the truth, or make up a *kind* lie. One could lose ones wings in accidents after all. Null had, for example. They would perhaps do best, in just observing her for now, and see how things would go. Especially once she started in school. That were going to cause a few things to pop up, she could imagine.

"But I haven't forgotten what we talked about, Arcade. I'm not bringing it up to her out of nowhere, nor will I say a word about their origin. It isn't for me to mess up things, by calling this out, and even if I saw something, that I thought warranted the need to maybe take action, I'd bring it past you, and if possible, Ardee, first. You know them, better than any, and have the.. Right context to understand things. You'd know the best how they'd act, and I hope that you believe it, when I say that I don't want to see them hurt."

Bling's hooves got up in front of her mouth as she saw the reaction he had, and gasped, with big eyes, and concern rolling from her.

"I didn't mean to... I'm so sorry, Consul. I was just trying to lift your spirit."

Oh, what had she done? She only wanted to cheer him up, and instead, she had accidentally caused him more duress it appeared. He didn't seem to be angry that she had done so, but she did feel guilty, and sad, that she had caused him to feel worse. She wanted those around her, to be filled with laughter and joy. Not saddened like this. Not thinking about what he missed, rather than what he had left to see forward to. Was strenuous to keep her tone jolly after that, but she had to try. There were other, important things to talk about here, after all, and she needed to keep focus on that. As a leader were supposed to, so she'd continue, as she had before, and forced joy to fill her heart once more.

"I'll have my legal team make some papers, and present them to the ambassador, soon as we can. They'll be far more proficient at wording it correctly, than I am.

But yes, there is something I'd like to discuss, Consul Easle.

I want to ask how you are. I can tell you're trying to hide it, but all that longing, the sadness... Along with all the other things, that must weigh on your shoulders? I'm sorry if it's not my place to say, but it's not in my nature to just ignore these kinds of things. Especially when it's right in my face. So again, I'm sorry if this is inappropriate, but... I just want to know if you're doing okay."

It was in her nature, to care, and nurture others, just as Cheshire had before her. Mostly changelings, but there were a reason, why they had worked so hard, to keep spirits up in town, throughout all the highs and lows alike. One beyond just harvesting emotions. That being, that she had trouble just sitting idly by, when she saw others being miserable. And there had been plenty of those beings, ever since the crisis started. Ponies, dragons, you name it. Most had felt loss, and were scarred, emotionally, and physically, and could do with someone that cared, that they could unburden their worries upon. She and her siblings were not the saviors of the town, by any means, nor the caretakers of the mental health of all. But she felt better, knowing they at least did their part.

Illiad should be able to tell that there were no malice in her intent. There were simply concern. In her eyes, as well as her emotions. Though she'd back off, if he asked her not to delve into this.

If, if, Toupé starts showing signs like you mentioned, then maybe it would be good to tell her, but only if you're sure it will work. We've all had more than our share of broken promises over the years, let's not add to that list if we don't have to."

He looked off into the distance, towards where the young ponies were, "Ardee isn't going to want to come back much once she gets free, we've all been stuck together for so long, so busy caring for each other, that none of us really had the chance to explore ourselves. I hope Teal and Toupé get the chance to discover themselves outside the context of the foals. Family is important, but it isn't everything."

He shook his head, "Sorry, I've been waxing more poetic lately, I've had more time than usual to just think about things. We all have."

Selena would take her leave, leaving Arcade and Void to wait for Null to come down, or Void leaving to prepare the young ponies so Arcade would wait alone for Null.

He could only avoid answering her question for so long though, and so he took a deep breath and let it out slowly, "I... am the unfortunate bearer of many burdens that I was never meant to carry. An overfilled vessel of convenience. I continue because no others exist to carry my burdens, and everything will quite literally fall apart were I to step away. I am working very hard to ensure that when the Æther returns, not only will it be a safe world, but a world that does not need me to keep turning. A world where I can be nothing more than a spectator, and live out however many years my wife has left in peace."

There was a tear in his eye, "She... I met her on a trip I was asked to go on, back before I was even Vice Consul. Were it not for all my burdens I would not have met her, so in a way I am grateful for them, and for the brief time we shared together, before my burdens forced us apart. I miss her every day, because she made me feel like I was a pony, and not just a tool for others to use."

He closed his eyes, and with a glow gradually reduced his form to that of a normal unicorn stallion, "I didn't ask to become an alicorn, and if I had simply died when I defeated Discord I would accept that as well. Maybe from Elysium I'd be able to watch over her." He shook his head, "No, I am not okay. But I'm working hard in the hope that one day, when she returns, that I will be."

When I know more details from Molotov, about how those things even work, and if they could work for... A young mare, who had an unfortunate accident. No revealing details."

But it's a growing experience, and you're right, they'll need it. But at the same time, it's important that they know that they still have their family, and can come back to them, at least now and again.

As for Tel and Toupé... I know it would be good for them, to discover themselves too, but I think it will stress them, if the foals are just taken away, and they won't see them again. Maybe it would be best to just... Start things off softly? They're supposed to start in school soon, but Peal and Piecey, are too young for that. Maybe if I can prove to them then, that I can keep an eye on them, they'll spend some alone time, trying to widen their horizons? I'd be happy to try. They're the most adorable little fillies.

And don't worry about being poetic. I can imagine you have a lot of things to think about. Things you might've never thought, that you'd had to consider."

"What's this about thinking?"

Null got around just at that point, having heard little, of what had been discussed. Her mane were... Tolerable, so she figured it were fine enough. She had never focused much, on making her mane and tail look good, so she always tended to look like a tomcolt. More so these days, when she wasn't wearing her grey hat, really showing off proper, how short her silvery mane were, compared to most mares.

"It's nothing, sis. Just talking about the foals."

"Uhuh."

She were not convinced, but she didn't need to know everything. Like why Selena were here, yet she'd leave shortly after, so it didn't seem like, there were much in the way of chatting the mare up. She were probably busy anyway, being a judge and all that.

"So, what's the talk of the town today?"

"I don't know. I've just been preparing things. Like you should be, with Ardee, right?"

"Won't be long now at least. Soon as Arcade think she's ready, we'll get started. Though we should swing by the hospital first. Make sure mom, and the little ones are okay. Dad's probably half asleep in a chair next to them."

(Bling)

Bling patiently listened to the consul, not interrupting him, as this were clearly something that he needed to get off his chest. And no wonder, with the things he said. A rich journey, but one that as she feared, had a lot of burdens with it, that stacked up on him, bit by bit. There were light moments too, as were seen when he spoke of his wife. It were clear to her, that he truly, genuinely cared about her, and thus, she understood better why he had felt as he did, when he had an emotional spike before. No wonder the mere mention had him feel sorrow, when he missed her so deeply. She were a lucky mare, to haver one that cared so deeply for her. Wherever The Æther were, Bling hoped that the mare were thinking about Illiad too, and looked forward to when they were reunited.

"It's a heavy burden to put on yourself. Trying to make everything work right, so they have a good home to return to, can't be an easy task.

Yet I understand why you're going down this path. It's going to be tough, but your goal is... I can't imagine a better gift, from a loving husband, and father. I guess this is part of why you reached out to Mr. House too then? You wanted to start making things better? I'm still new on the council, and I don't know how much they'll weigh my words yet, but for what it is worth, you have my full support."

maybe there were other words, she could have chosen. Perhaps later, she would ponder this, and find some, but right now, she were just taken in, by his conviction, and strength of character. A burden like that? She hadn't even a hundredth of what he carried, and she felt overwhelmed sometimes. Illiad seemed like he were mostly carrying himself, and shouldering these things, regardless of how heavy that burden must be.

"Something huge like you have in mind? Can't be something you can do all on your own. While I'll do what I can here, I hope you have some in Troy, who have your back, and can help make things feel a little more manageable. I find that it have helped me at least, to have some around me, that I could rely on. Your burden is on such another level, I can barely fathom it, but still, I hope that you have friends to rely on."

Perhaps someday, she'd be counted among those, but for now, she were more than happy, to just do her part, in making things more manageable for him. Which she imagined, would also include making the survivor settlements and towns, come together, and work as a team. She couldn't do much in Troy perhaps, but if that were his goal here, she were more than happy to do her part, in pushing those things along. Also because it would help the town, and the changelings under her care too. After all, she had a lot of changelings, from a lot of broken hives here. Might be there were some in Troy, who were family, they had thought lost. If she could bring them together too, it would be a good thing too.

Arcade nodded, "Sounds like a plan, though it's probably best not to keep Ardee waiting. Frankly I think she's been ready since we left the facility, but wasn't willing until she was sure the others would be cared for."

Arcade would head for the door, "Lets go visit your parents and siblings then. Hopefully they've gotten some rest by now."

The streets were a bit more crowded today compared to last night, but that was to be expected. Nonetheless they made it to the hospital without issue and were shown to the room where their father and mother were resting, their father having been given a cot to rest on instead of being forced to stay in a chair or on the floor all night. The foals weren't there, likely they had been taken to the nursery for the evening to let them all rest comfortably for a time.

Their mother stirred to wakefulness when they entered, "Oh, morning already?" She sat up in bed, chuckling as she saw their still sleeping father, "You all sleep well?"

"I can imagine she's anxious, yes. We'll need to really get some work done on some weapons for her soon, big sis."

"Then try and conserve some energy, and we'll keep the forges hot tonight. We'll live running an all nighter. Been some time since last."

Void would nod, and follow along, as they went towards the hospital. Both her and Null, moving at increased speed, as they neared, anxious if everything were still okay. They knew it had to be, as surely they would've been contacted otherwise, but it were hard to not have the thought. Vague as it might be.

Thankfully, everything seemed to be okay, and they both let out a sigh of relief. Void more openly so, than Null, who instead focused more on getting closer, and checking up on their father. He seemed to just be sleeping, so that were good. Probably exhausted, after last night. Best to just let him rest, and not disturb him.

"Yeah, we did well mom. How about you? Dad sure seems like he didn't get much sleep. And the foals. They're in the  nursery? They're still okay?"

Void did wonder why Null seemed to look away briefly, when asked if she had slept well. Had she had a bad dream? Well, not important, she supposed. What were, were  how mom, dad, and their new siblings were doing.

"Easy sis. Let mom answer one thing at a time. She's probably about as tired as dad is."

"Worry not about that. I've cared for changelings of all sorts, and will continue to do so, queen or not. Cheshire were fond of saying, that petty grievances, or pride, made you blind to those in the shadows. Her way of saying that no matter how much we were ridiculed, or threatened, by bigger and stronger hives, we should never refuse help, if they came asking for it. Because if we did, we'd not punish a prideful queen, but the hungry drones behind her. And that would be unforgivable.

Let them know, that whatever the connection to Hive Cheshire, I will not discriminate against any of them. All will be welcome, all the same, even if they've been those who attacked us in the past."

Naive perhaps, but what were there to gain, from being narrowminded, and petty about things? It were a broken world, that they wandered upon. It did not need to get harder, by some stumbling and falling, and others just walking along, leaving them behind. Been a fair few just the last year in fact, that she should realistically not trust, or show kindness to, for various reasons, who turned out to be good changelings, when offered kindness, and patience. Bruce being one, but not the only one, and he were by far not the worst. He had nearly put her in a cast yes, but he had been in pain, and delusional. Holding that against him, would be ridiculous.

"Oh, I could recommend several things. I'd even be willing to show you around, if you'd like? Or find another, if you think it'd be too suspicious, that it's me doing it. Less than a half dozen, know that you're here, and they're expecting the whole alicorn presentation. You wouldn't get noticed like this.

...Well, maybe you should stay clear of the theater. Hizu's preparing his show, and he's a perceptive zebra. I wouldn't be surprised if he saw through your disguise."

She'd mention a few places, that he could go, if he preferred not having an escort. Or even where he could go with one, if he'd like one showing him around. New Las Pegasus were perhaps not as full of splendor as its old self, but it still had several things to show for itself. Among them, the delightful market, the various attractions of the casinos, or gaming centers, and the great view, from the tallest, publicly accessible building in town. Among with smaller things, that she found important. Like the local orphanage, the hospital, or the various places, were those injured physically, and/or mentally, by war, congregated. Bling considered those important, because they served as reminders, of not just what the price for all of these years were, but also to remember that there were always some, who had it worse, that could use help. Some she offered when possible, in whatever way she could.

The orphanage for example, had a foal, and a young griffon, adopted a few weeks ago, by a couple of changelings. Some others, who had reached adulthood, she helped get in contact with places, they could seek work, so they'd avoid ending up in gangs, or worse. Few times in the past, her brother had helped as a bartender, to some of the veterans gatherings, and Gloop had done hers too, as changeling goo, wasn't all she knew how to cook. Might be they weren't changelings, but some had it harder than others, and could use a helping hoof, all the same. Plus the couple who got the two orphans, were just adorable. They weren't partaking in the efforts, that had been set up by Rasputin's instructions, but it weren't forced either. They had their lives, and a lot to do in it as it were. She couldn't just demand they tossed that aside.

Their mother yawned, "You know, I think that was the best sleep I've had in months, and that I probably will have in the next few months." She chuckled, "It's just... they're here! And they're healthy, everything I was worried about is resolved, and now we have a whole new adventure to begin. But right now, everything is perfect."

Their father started to stir to wakefulness with them talking around him, "Hmm...? Is it morning already?"

Their mother continued, "Yes, your siblings are in the nursery, the doctors wanted to be able to keep a close eye on them over night just in case. They should be bringing them back soon so I can feed them."

No sooner did she mention that then the door opened, revealing a diamond dog in a medical outfit pushing a cart on top of which sat their two swaddled siblings in a bassinet. "Good morning! These two were absolute angels, and perfectly healthy too. You're all cleared to leave with a clean bill of health, you should expect the your parent package within the next few days once we get their birth certificates filed." She gently passed the swaddled foals over to their mother's embrace.

"Thank you."

The dog nodded, "I'll leave you all to it then." And with that she left just as quickly as she had entered, leaving them the bassinet to help carry the foals home in when they were ready to leave.

He raised an eyebrow at that, "He was in Troy before, right? I remember hearing about him there. I'm glad to hear that he's done well for himself. Still though, it would likely be best if I went without an escort. I can take care of myself fine, and I'd rather draw as little attention as possible. But I do appreciate your offer."

He listened intently to what she suggested, "I'll have to try and visit as many of those places as I can. Thank you again. While we might not meet again in person, I am glad to have met you, and I look forward to working with you in the future."

(I think that's it for this storyline until Null and company arrive. Rasputin will come back once Null is done with the Scout.)

The sisters felt relieved to hear that everything were okay, with their parents. They were gonna ask more in to the foals, but timing would have it, that just as they were about to, the two newborns would be entering the room. Seemed perfectly healthy, just as the diamond dog said. Rather quiet though. They had both sorta expected them to be crying a fair bit, but then, they knew little about infants, beyond the few interactions in the past, and some second hoof information. They sorta just expected the screaming, but no. Right now, they seemed awake, yet merry, well behaved, and oh so adorable.

Void openly showed that, letting out an *Aaaawh* sound, and nearly glittering from her eyes, as she saw them. Null were more reserved, though she did feel her heart skip a beat, and a smile creeping on to her face. Though she'd force it down, before it became too big. Force of habit.

"Just look at them. Just as precious and adorable as I remember them."

"Good to hear they're healthy. Looked like it before, but good to be sure."

They'd both come over, and look at the foals. Void from a better vantage point, yet still, the oldest sister got a good, up close look all the same too. Both enough close, if possible, that the foals might reach out and touch them, if they so wished to. Though right now, they were probably mostly just hungry. And if it were feeding time, the wouldn't get too close. That'd be awkward.

"How long are they gonna keep you all in here, before you can go home then? Things are fine back home, far as we know, but just curious."

"Sounded like they could go home today."

"Seems soon, but what do I know?

So... What's the plan? I don't really know what happens next."

(Bling)

"Have a good trip, Consul Easle. I'm sure we'll meet again someday."

Bling would wave him off, then not long after he left, she'd call a changeling, and ask them to follow him for a bit, and just make sure that he didn't get lost, or something like that. She wouldn't say who he were of course. Just that he were a friend, from long ago, that she worried might get into trouble.

He'd probably notice them, but they'd keep their distance, and not interact with him directly. Just be in the general area. He could probably shake them off well enough, at which point they'd just get back to the casino after a bit, and inform Bling, that he seemed able to handle things himself. They'd just do that regardless after an hour or so anyway, once it seemed like he'd do fine on his own.

He would give them some time to ogle them before stepping in to lift them, very gently, out of the bassinet and unswaddling them before passing them over to their mother so she could feed them.

Things have calmed down enough that we'll be able to take a few weeks uninterrupted to care for and bond with them before I need to come back to work, and your mother will get to stay full time with them until they're old enough to be weaned. At that point, who knows? The world will be a different place then."

He turned to his daughters and brought them into a hug, "I'm glad you two were here to see it, that we could all be together, but I know you've both got important things to do today, and we won't keep you from it. We'll see you at home tonight, alright? Though... we wouldn't say no if you wanted to wait and walk home with us."

If they decided to wait it would only be about an hour until they were ready to travel, and the walk home would be peppered with congratulations, well-wishers, and a number of their parents friends stopping to see the foals for themselves, so the relatively short walk would end up taking longer than usual.

*That makes one of us.*

Such were the thought that Null had in her head, when their father mentioned adorableness, and which pair of foals, had been the cutest. She did not say so out loud however, and would actually smirk, as their mother gave him a glare, more or less. This wasn't a place to air her internal self-loathing. Nor the time. This were about their parents, and the foals.

"Oh... Oh, I f- S-Sorry."

"Go take care of them. I'll keep an eye on them. Who knows? Maybe you'll make it back, before they're ready."

Void were not pleased, but Null were right. There were others, who needed to be fed, and everything seems safe here, right? Nothing to worry about. Maybe she could make the trip, and be back.

So she would wander off, and go fetch the bread and assorted toppings, such as marmelade, that would need to go with it, and scurry off to the where her own darlings were. Maybe if nothing went wrong there, they would allow her to wander off for a bit, in about half an hour, meaning she'd make it back 50 minutes from when she left the hospital. If things did require her to remain though, she'd do so. She wouldn't leave them behind, and there were still plenty of time to focus on the foals, some other time, if it were. Though she hoped she could go with them, on the trip back. Vale could easily handle them, while she were away. She just didn't know if Vale could handle cooking, or feeding the foals. Especially, as Void tended to keep the food for the next day, at herself. Maybe it'd be better, to have some in a cabinet over there? Something simple. She needed to talk to Vale about that, when she had the chance.

If she made it back or not though, Null (and likely Arcade) would remain, and keep a good eye on the foals. If Arcade kept a good eye on Null, he might notice her facade slipping sometimes, showing a glimpse of worry, hope, longing, or tenderness. Primarily in her eyes. She wouldn't speak of it, nor really say anything else, unless asked, to allow some time for the foals and her parents, to relatively uninterrupted, interact. Gave her the chance to ponder a few things too.

A fascinating sight, the walk home. For Null (and Void, if she had made it back). Neither really had a scale of how many friends, or just folks that generally appreciated them, there were. Yet this were giving an insight, and it certainly wasn't a small number. Made sense really. They had helped a fair bit of others, and the sight of new life, after how things had been now, for several years, were likely uplifting for a fair few folks. Helped things not look so grim and dark.

She still kept an eye on those, getting closest, and just doing sweeping gazes in general, paranoid that someone here, were planning on doing something gruesome. And if she got the idea they were... Gods have mercy upon them, for she would not. She'd fling at them, and pound their faces in, if that's what it took. Though she were more than likely, just being paranoid here again. Though really, could you blame her? Not been long, since they had a griffon, from Tartarus, try and cause harm. Who knew who - or what - else might be out there, just waiting for the right moment to strike?

(Void)

By the time Void arrived at the apartment Vale already had breakfast in full swing, having served them some more of the bread she had introduced to them earlier along with some mild cheeses and butter, they all turned when Void entered, their expressions a mix of surprise and excitement as some of them set down their food to approach before Vale stopped them, "Now now, no need to rush her, you can talk to her fine while you eat."

They settled back down, Ardee looked somewhat disappointed that Void had come alone, but the others maintained their interest, Toupé speaking up, "Miss Vale told us that you have new siblings now, like Peal and Piecey, are they going to come here too?"

Vale came over to Void, "Selena mentioned that you might be late getting here today, so I took care of breakfast today and told them what happened, and that you might be here less often for a bit going forward. But they are very interested in knowing why if you want to explain to them what's going on?"

The foals would likely have a series of questions for Void, so she would be delayed at least an hour there, but she would be able to get back to her parents soon after they got home.

(Null)

More than a few of the well wishers would turn their attention towards Null and Arcade after they said their pieces to her parents. The comments were mostly congratulatory as well as a few comments indicating that her parents were lucky to have an older sister around to help take care of the new foals. A few were more jealous that Null would get to spend so much time with them while the rest of the town would only get to see them in passing, but none of the comments were disparaging nor did they indicate any hint of danger.

Still, they would arrive home without incident, the foals eager to stretch their legs and explore, eyes wide to all the new sights as they went.

(My research on horses indicate that they are moving on their own within minutes of birth, so for ponies I think it makes sense for them to be ambulatory within a day)

Once in the home their mother would lay down on a rug in the living room to give the foals easy access to her as their father set about un wrapping them from their blankets so they could start to explore their new environment under the watchful eyes of their family.

(Void)

Void were relieved, to find that when she showed up, things seemed to be looking good. Vale had seemingly been tipped off about the birth, and thus, had been prepared, and busy, making sure the younglings were fed. And thank the heavens for that. She did not want the poor little things to starve after all, or be worried where she had been. Worry wasn't top of their list here either it seemed. Rather it were curiosity, and some degree of excitement. Bless their little hearts.

The excitement in the air, seemed to be affection her little pet too, whom she had picked up back home, when she had picked up the things she thought she'd need for their breakfast. Now those things would be lunch instead, more than likely, so they weren't going to waste. As for how Lacuni were affected? He were scurrying up and down Void's back, letting out a series of bird-chips. Like a morning song, used to greet all of the lively ponies, that he had recently got to know, day by day.

"Easy now. One thing at a time.

First off, I'd like to thank you Vale, for making sure they got fed this morning. I completely sweat it out, with the hospital visit, and had to be reminded by Null. I got worried they might've not gotten breakfast yet, and it's nice to see that you took care of that.

Now then, to your question: The new infants are born, and they're thankfully at good health. Null is helping mom and dad, to get them home soon, where the little ones will probably begin to crawl around and explore to their hearts contend.

You might see them eventually, but it won't be for at least some weeks. They'll need to bond with mom and dad, best they can, and get a rhythm where not too many things change. But perhaps once everything's nice and calm, we can look into having them come around for a visit. Just be very careful, okay? They're even tinier than Peal and Piecey, so you need to be gentle around them.

Maybe I can look into getting some pictures of them actually... I'll look into that, okay? I promise.

And I will have some times, when I'm not here as much, but I'll use as much time as I can here still. You don't have to worry that I pick them over you. I love my new little siblings, but that doesn't make me love any of you, any less."

She assumed they might be worried by that outcome, since she now had more family to attend, so she wanted to make sure, that they were all understanding that she wouldn't do that to them.

She'd answer every question they had, as best she could, and explain that she had to go and visit her parents again quickly, just to make sure that they had gotten home safely. She'd also say to Ardee, that when she got back, she wanted to talk to her, if she had the time. She'd probably know what that was in reference to, to some degree. The training. Maybe not the measurement of her wings, but she'd make sure when she brought that up, that Ardee understood, it were just to try and make her some wing blades, and not for anything nefarious.

She'd get to the hospital when it were, and find out her parents were no longer there, then rush home, to see how things were doing.

She mostly just nodded, and said thanks, when others came up to her. She weren't sure how to react to this sort of thing, so she'd go with just... Somewhat kind neutral, she supposed were a good way of putting it? Or polite, as you could also call it. Not causing a fuss, not looking to do anything of the sort, just accepting things, and moving along, to try and make it as little awkward as possible.

This wasn't her usual sort of social interaction. She still weren't sure how to deal with positive attention sometimes, and this were strange and odd, as well as overwhelming. Made her also focus on just being able to feel things around her at the same time, which she otherwise were doing better at just sort of accepting/ignoring. It were not helping things, and honestly, made her want to just get away from things, all that much faster.

Felt like ages, but eventually, they'd finally get home, and could put the horde of other creatures behind them. Something that made her let out a long, drawn out sigh.

(they have been shown to stumble around as tiny ones in the show, sorta like young kittens)

She'd watch the two of them just stumble around, exploring this fresh new world they had entered. She'd make sure to keep a very close eye on them, as to insure they did not get out of sight. Her expression neutral, which to others, did sometimes seem a little hard, as her neutral expression were rather stern. But at least it wasn't her more or less visually growling. That wasn't how she wanted her little siblings to remember her, when she were on the road. She wanted them to remember her as somepony they could if not physically, then at least mentally look up to. Sure they were smaller than her now but give it about ten years. They'd get there. At least she hoped so. She did not wish for them to go through the social aspects, of being short like Arcade and her were.

Wasn't long after, that Void would show up, panting slightly, with Lacuni hanging on to the underside of her neck, head turned to better look around. She'd go in, and close the door quickly behind her. If either of the small ones tried to get over there, she'd grab hold of them gently, and make sure they didn't escape the room.

"Sorry I'm late. The others were really curious about the little ones. Very excited too, it sounded like. I promised I'd try and get some pictures of them one of these days, so they could see what they looked like.

What did I miss here? Is everything okay?"

"Yeah, it's fine. They're just out and exploring. And you just missed a lot of well wished. A lot of folks, wanted to congratulate them, on the little new ones."

Lacuni would skitter down to the floor, and head towards the closest of the foals, about this time, but Void would grab hold of his tail, and lift him back up. An action that made the cackler, let out a few confused yelps, as he looked at her, upside down.

"Sorry, but they're smaller than Piecey and Peal, and would probably try and put you in their mouths. You'll get to say hi to them properly later.

Don't worry about him. He's as harmless as any cackler, but him and the other foals, are getting along very well. He just get very enthusiastic.

They're pretty cute, roaming around like that. I hope they'll be excited about their room too."

They looked disappointed by the news, but ultimately took it well, turning their attention back to the task at hand, which was breakfast, while Vale prepared to teach them something. Given the diagrams it looked like a lesson on the different creatures that lived in Troy, probably in preparation for being introduced to some new creatures in the coming few days.

She'd also say to Ardee, that when she got back, she wanted to talk to her, if she had the time.

Ardee simply sighed and muttered that it was fine. It was obvious that she was rather disappointed that Null and Arcade had not come to take her for training as they had promised.

Their parents smiled at that, "They're very precious, the two of you weren't much older when you were first entrusted to us, seeing them play reminds us quite a bit of how things were, all those years ago."

The newborns would return to where their mother was every so often to be fed again, and after a few hours of rambunctious exploring of everywhere they could get to, which included a good amount of nomming on their sisters' legs, they were tired to the point where they could be swaddled again and taken gently up to their room with the specially designed crib, and to give their mother time to rest and recover.

(It's been a long time since I last had to care for a baby, or since there was a baby in my house, so I am ignorant to most of what goes on in that department. Unless you have some specific aspects that you want to look into, we can just gloss over the time they spend at home going forward.)

Void were not ignorant, of the fact that they had promised to train with her today, but things had suddenly changed out of her control, after last night. They would get started today though. She just needed to get back home for a bit more, and then she'd be back. It were probably best to get the training done before dinner anyway.

She would hopefully not be long.

Though just to make sure she did not feel like they were neglecting her, before she left, Void would lean in close, and give Ardee a hug. Whilst doing so, she'd say quietly in her ear, to get ready for practice when she came back. She'd make sure to smile at Ardee, as she pulled back, with a bit of a glimmer in her eye. As well as a tinge of worry, as the thought again rose up, of Ardee, going out into the world. It were still something she were... Less than enthusiastic about, but she had given her word, and she'd own up to it.

"Earliest I remember, were riding around on your back, while mom poked you with a wooden spoon. I'm guessing to get us out of the kitchen. It's gotten hard to remember the good moments, sometimes..."

She'd look down, as a certain little rascal were thinking that her ultimate fate, were as foal food. Made a little smile spread on her face, as she just let the little rascal do their thing. Wasn't like it'd hurt her, right? Even if they did have teeth, it'd be some time, before they got enough chomping power to really make her wince.

"It's good we're adding new ones."

Those old memories were faded anyway. She had glimpses of the times, before the accident, but it were a haze to remember all of it. Memories of her parents were most of her early memories, and as she had felt like she had killed them, the guilt made her try and not focus on memories that included them. It just made her feel worse. Guess it now came back to bite her in the flank, but life wasn't over, right? There were still plenty of time to make some new, and potentially better memories, that were gonna stick. This being one of them.

It were still odd to her to sometimes look back though, and remember when Void and her, were the same height. Right up until her sister had her growth spurt, and Null very much did not.

"It is. May their lives be as full of good memories, and promising futures, as they can possibly get."

Void would not stand tall, but would lay down, so that the little ones could come over and have a good, close look of her. She were much too tall, to give them a great vantage point for that normally, so they wouldn't get as much from this, as they did with Null, if she stood tall. She'd probably have her face booped, drooled on, and her mane tussled around, among other things, but she took the experiences with a laugh, and great joy. All part of the magical time, of innocence and wonder, that their new little siblings had. How could anyone get annoyed by that?

Lacuni would keep trying to go over to say hi, but Void had to be cautious. He weren't a danger, but he would probably present himself, as an interesting thing to nom on, for the little ones. Best to avoid that, and then gradually introduce them more to him.

After about an hour, Null would leave though. As she'd explain, she had to go and prepare the training area for Ardee, and a few practice weapons. The location would be roughly where she had gotten her flight training, as it were nice and remote, and she'd want a remote location for this sort of thing, to not cause some sort of unwanted attention.

Void would be there until the little ones fell asleep though, and when it were, would rise up, and stretch her legs.

"Seems they're all tired out.

You should probably sleep too, while you have the chance. I'll go and to Ardee and the others, and then probably be back later tonight. Please don't overexert yourselves too much, okay? I love you."

If there were nothing else, she'd be on her way. She just had to pick up the things for dinner from her workshop, and then straight over to the others again. Some busy days ahead of her, but it were okay. She'd make sure to share her time and affection, to all of the beloved ponies in her life.

==========================================================================

(The Clones)

"Hi, I'm back. Sorry for the delay. The little ones were very energetic. A lot like Piecey and Peal, but less mobile, and trying to chew on everything."

She'd go and put down her saddlebag in the kitchen, then go and wash her face again, just in case, before rejoining the others. And her first target, would be Ardee.

"Are you ready hun? Have you gotten lunch yet? I think you'll be out for some time, so it'd be best if you had something to eat first."

Void returned to the apartment just as Vale was starting to prepare the next meal. Ardee was once again visibly disappointed to see that Void had come alone. but she hid it from the others who were just excited to see Void again.

Null had gotten her flight training in the ruins of the Trojan stadium, which when she returned to it she'd find that it were undergoing renovations, it looked like the guard were starting to repurpose it into a base of operations and more official training ground. A step up from the collection of tents and impermanent structures around the city.

They would not escape the notice of a certain pegasus mare, who would wing over towards them before they could get too close to the stadium. "You've returned, I see the weight you previously carried is alleviated, partially. Did you come for more training?"

It was, of course, the Spartratian mare who had trained her how to use the wing blades before she first left for New Pegasus.

Void would lean down, and look at Ardee, face to face.

"We wouldn't do that to you. I know it's been delayed, but with the foals coming... Things went a little off rails.

Null went to prepare a training area. She should be here soon, to take you there. She can start you off on her own, while I stay here a bit, okay? We gave you our word, and we'll keep it."

She spoke softly, and kept eye contact with Ardee. She tended to believe that you could see it on someone's face, if they lied to you, so she hoped that this would help Ardee grasp that she wasn't lying. Things had just derailed some, for a bit.

"Now, did you eat yet hon? You might need some strength for practice."

About fifteen minutes after she said this, there would in fact, be a knock at the door. A certain diminutive mare, had shown up to do her part.

(as Null left an hour earlier, it will all fit, with her having prepped things, regardless of how the parts with her goes below for now)

(Null)

Seeing the construction going on, Null would let out a few curse words, under her breath. Of course nothing could just be bloody easy, could it? Bah. She had to think of another area then, cause this wasn't gonna be worth anything. Too many eyes here, and the construction would make things messy. Well, where else could she go for? The workshop were an option, but there were gonna be a fair few things she needed to move then, and the forge might make things ugly still...

She were thinking on these things, when she got approached.

Null per instinct, took one step back, and tensed up, when they were approached, but eased up when she saw who it were. A familiar face, and one that granted, were a better combat instructor than her... Maybe this wasn't the worst place to have gone after all.

"Didn't think I'd run into you again here of all places, ma'am. I didn't even consider looking you up actually. Been some hectic days, but have a companion that's wanting to toughen up, so I went looking for a place to run her through some basics. I figured this area were still quiet. Guess I were wrong.

And this ain't the one I'm talking about. He's my uh...

A-Anyway, if this here area's off limits, we'll be off, without causing issue. Though you got any ideas on where to go? We probably only got around a week or so, so we need to get moving soon. Don't wanna risk her getting into things, without at least a chance.

...Though y'know, if that question about training, could extend to them, that might do us all some good, for the road. Can't say I've met another mare before, that so effortlessly could beat the snot out of me, as you, and I was planning on using the program you gave me the last time, when it came to her too.

Also, how did you know 'bout that weight? I ain't feeling like I'm looking any different."

She hated asking for help, but for the sake of Ardee, it might be for the best. This mare could beat the snot out of the three of them, at the same time, so they could frankly all do well with a bit of a rough coursing from her. Though she were probably busy. Seemed like there were something being build here, and she were likely here for a reason. She'd just forced herself to ask, since it were worth a shot, in her opinion. Worst case, she'd be told off, and they were back at square one. Was fine if it were. Just that this one could likely do with her general training session in a week, what Null were able to, in about six months, even if she used the same pointers given to her. And that were just the general training. More focused stuff, Null wouldn't have a chance to ever compare to. The difference between a warrior, and a survivor, were quite notable here.

"Right. Arcade? This Spartration helped me when I got my artificial wing. A rough time, but well worth it. Try not getting on her bad side."

Ardee seemed to gain some confidence in Void's response, but it was evident that she was still prepared for an eventual disappointment.

It was about then that Vale had lunch ready for everyone to come over, and Ardee would be just finishing when Null arrived.

All of the young ponies were happy to see Arcade again, though it wasn't very rambunctious as they had seen him the day before, still, he would draw the others' attention while Null was approached by Ardee, "So, I'm ready then, let's go."

"I know, the week's not long, but things are just speeding along faster than I thought. And tomorrow's good. Means there's time to craft her something sharp."

That was a relief. She were willing to train, and frankly, Null would be joining too, since she could use more. She might be distracted, but her not noticing the Spartration earlier, and a few less than stellar examples, from her former trip, told her clearly, that she could do with some more too. Never hurt to be more prepared, right?

"Fair points. I guess I'm mellowing, or something. Anyway, I'll bring her along soon, then get to the forge. She's skilled with her wings, so she'll probably take quicker to the windblade training than I did.

Thanks for the help ma'am."

She'd bow to the mare, then be on her way back to town. She still had a bit of time to prepare something actually, now she were thinking about it... Aye, might as well get the basics prepared, back at the workshop. Wasn't too hard. Just make sure the forge were clean, prepare the right tools, and then bring forth a tape measure, a pen, and a notebook, for the one thing she had to get sorted with Ardee, regarding the wing blades. She'd need to work on a bow too, so she made sure that she had some proper wood to work with. Wouldn't be Ironwood, but it'd do. Wouldn't be the first bow she made either.

Making sure everything were sorted, would only take about twenty minutes or so. Void made sure the forge were clean, and ready for use, even if she didn't have the time to make a lot the last few days.

=====================================================================

(Sisters)

When they entered, Null would stay near the door, waiting for Ardee to get closer, whilst Void would focus on Arcade too, just like the younglings did.

"Yeah, let's go."

She'd start walking out, though before they got too far, she'd turn and look up at Ardee.

"Just two quick things: First off, I didn't know the context yesterday, so... Sorry 'bout pushing you, about flying. It won't happen again.

Second off, I'm gonna have to measure your wings, before today's over. It'll help making sure, that what Null and I craft, fits you. Especially the wing blades. I figure you're dexterous enough to make good use of those."

She'd spread her own wings, showing those that she had. It should give Ardee an idea of what she were thinking about.

"We can do it after we've been off, back at the workshop."

She'd lead Ardee out, and towards the outskirts. She didn't really much care, if Ardee were covered up, to stop others from looking, and making od connections, between her and Rainbow Dash. That were up to her. She were fine just walking along with purpose, heading for the most direct route, out of town, towards their goal. Ideally with some side paths, to avoid too many prying eyes. She'd speak a bit more on that, before they reached the area though. When they were in a more isolated side street, near the edge.

"I planned on running you through training myself, but ran into someone out there. The one who ran me through the ringer, before I went to New Las Pegasus. She'll be helping us both, and way more efficiently, than I'd be able to. She's a tough one though. Try not to get discouraged."

Wouldn't belong after that, that they'd be there. Now it were just to find the Spartration.

...Honestly, she should probably try and figure out what her name were, one of these days.

Ardee, for once, looked genuinely excited, like she had half expected, leading up to this, that this was all a trick. She bid farewell to the others and left quickly with Null and Arcade. She put on the cloak she had worn on her way in and when they had gone out to the wall, but she left the hood down.

She nodded at that as she looked over Null's wings, "I'm okay with that."

As they traveled Ardee looked every way that she could, seeing everything for the first time in the daylight. "There's... so many creatures here. I didn't think there were this many in the whole world, much less one city..." She commented quietly to herself.

Arcade responded, "Well, from what I've heard, this city has about half of everyone that is left, or it did before everyone started to move away, starting to resettle the land."

That wouldn't be an issue, as the Spartratian would be the one finding them again, this time taking them a bit more by surprise as she simply landed behind them. Arcade and Ardee spun to face her just about as soon as she landed, Ardee only relaxing once she saw that the other two did. The Spartratian nodded, "Good, I didn't take you entirely by surprise."

She visually appraised Ardee as she had Arcade, "I presume you are the one I've been asked to train? There is much fire in you, much potential."

She stepped back from the trio and motioned for Ardee to step forward, "Now, I would like to see you in flight. Go ahead and-"

"No."

The Spartratian stooped, an eyebrow raised as she approached Ardee, who did not shrink from the mare's hard gaze. "What did you say?"

"No. I don't fly."

The two maintained eye contact for several uncomfortable moments before the Spartratian nodded, "Understood. If we had more time I'd make an effort to work you through your trauma, but for now we'll focus on other things."

She stepped back again, and Ardee let out the breath she had been holding, looking shaken from the experience. The Spartratian gave her a moment to recover before continuing, "Your wings are nonetheless strong, tell me, what can you do with them?"

"W-well... I am good at fine manipulation, and strong lateral motion."

She nodded, "Demonstrate, try and mirror my movements."

The Spartratian would start to move her wings, slowly at first, using the tips of her feathers to trace lines in the sand, before moving on to snap movements, quick strikes forward and backward with her wings. Ardee started off a bit shaky, but soon was mirroring the Spartratian rather well.

(Void)

Once Ardee left with Arcade and Null, the other young ponies turned to Void, "Miss Vale mentioned that we'll be meeting some new creatures soon. Creatures to teach us more about the world. They're... They're not going to replace you are they?"

(You mentioned previously having some potential teachers in mind. If you have some characters that you'd like to have be some of their new teachers you can mention them in the OOC so I can add them to the lineup)

"I've been a lot of places. What's left here, ain't anything, compared to most other places, before the crisis. Gonna take a long time, for things to get back to how they were.

Least most here are friendly."

She had only met a few unpleasant ones actually, since they got to this town. It seemed like most, had changed attitudes on things, after the horrors of the last few years. Hard to keep latching on to petty old grudges, when your life had fallen apart, she supposed. For some. She still had quite a few, that she were stubbornly latching on to.

"Ain't always gonna be the case out there. You'll need to be ready for that."

Honestly, she weren't sure how many bad ones were left, but she would assume that only the worst remained. The ones that had no qualms doing whatever it took, to survive. Those tended to fair better, in a ruined world, rather than the nice sweet ones, who'd be polished off rather easily, by the aforementioned cruel ones.

Not saying there weren't likely a fair bit of good, or repenting creatures out there. But she were not naive. There were monsters, and if Ardee were going out there, she had to be ready. Guess they didn't have the time to train her proper though, if she remained eager, but at least they could get her prepared for some of what she could expect, from the world at large. Or they were lucky, and she stayed, to get more training, though Null doubted that.

Things had been a little... Shaky for a bit, but there seemed to be a degree of understanding for now, so that were good. The less issues the better.

So first off, Ardee seemed to be tested with her wing dexterity. An exercise she certainly did better than Null had, no surprise. Should be a good start. If it had been possible, she would've borrowed the young mare her own wing blades, so she could test the sort of thing out, that would be asked, if she were to use those, but they were too small for Ardee. She had to wait, until she had crafted something, with Void. Hopefully overnight, they could get something done, long as nothing got in the way, and they didn't sleep.

"So, what're your thoughts? Looks to me like you've got more to work with here, than you did with me. Least with the wings."

"Of course we're not gonna be replaced, sweetie. The teachers are gonna be extra helpers. I promise you, that I'm not just gonna go away, and not come back. You're all too important to me."

She'd go down on a knee as she said this, to get more in eye height with the young ponies. Poor things must be getting worried, with Ardee now wandering. Same with Elef being away for long periods, and hearing that there'd be others... No wonder they were concerned that the ones they had bonded with, might be going away.

Well, they wouldn't have to worry about that with her. She wouldn't leave them, unless they wanted her to. And even then, she'd make sure that they knew, that they'd always be able to reach out to her, if they needed something.

"Who knows? I might even know one or two of those teachers you're gonna have. I've met a very nice lady, who is a botanist, for instance. Could well be that you'd have her for biology classes."

Granted, it were a bit of an odd one, considering dragons weren't usually well known for being interested in plants, but the dragoness had seemingly found a calling for it, and been voraciously devouring any knowledge she could of it, and passed it on, for a fair few years.

Of course, as she were a dragon, she were a little... Taller, than a normal classroom would allow, but outdoor studies were not hard to accommodate. And it had the added benefit, of some nice sunlight, to freshen up the spirit.

As for how she knew her? One of those, who had needed a replacement part. Not an eye though. She had lost teeth, during the crisis, and had her jaw damaged by an odd weapon, impeding her normal tooth grow. It'd heal up proper, and get normal again in a few years, or decades at worst probably, but she still felt off, not having them until then. Had she been smaller, it might have been different, but due to her size, fixing some metal teeth, hadn't been too hard. How she got them fixed in place though... Void had not asked, but she assumed there were a dentist somewhere in town.

Same dragoness also told her, that she wasn't the only draconic teacher in the area, but she hadn't specified a lot. Could be anyone really, and the one in question, might already have moved on, now that it were safer to go out in the world again.
