Background ponies

Do people actually care about the background ponies that aren't Octavia, Lyra, Bon Bon, Vinyl Scratch, Dr. Whooves, or Derpy? "Slice of Life" was an episode that many praised for these guys getting prominence in it, but at the end, Mayor Mare also mentioned that :" it's not just the main characters in our stories that make life so rich! It's everypony – those who play big parts and those who play small." Everypony means much more than "the secondary six" or whatever fans call them, and this is clear from the stories at actually go on in the background with some of the lesser idolized background characters. Take Cloudchaser, for instance. She was seen being quite the acrobat from her debut as a filly (in the flashback of "Pinkie Pride"). She then goes on to become a Wonderbolt trainee after the events of "Hurricane Fluttershy" (possibly having been scouted by Spitfire, who was there at those events, to see her potential), and from there, actually becomes a Wonderbolt, as seen in "Party Pooped". There are many ponies who have snippets of screen time in the background that- when pieced together- makes for their own interesting stories and cases of development.

But do fans actually care about these non-idolized 'secondary six' ponies?

Ya people care, at least the people here do. Twinkleshine and Roseluck have their fans or people like them. I’m partial to Amythest and Sea Swirl myself. You won’t hear them mentioned as much for logical reasons related to communication. Forum posts and blogs have a certain structure and even a paragraph that is thoughtfully constructed takes time. I like Amythest fine, but as she isn’t my favorite. I suspect that most people will always focus on the higher order characters that they prefer which leads to a stronger general conversation about those particular characters. Yet they still enjoy others and won’t creat content surrounding them. A lack of discussion doesn’t mean a character is disliked or unappreciated.

See, we both like Dolphin Pone!

I've wondered about SS on and off for a few years actually. Her Euro Blind bag card blurb mentions that she loves the sea, while her U.S. card states that she loves swimming in the ocean. In the Gameloft app MLP game, it's mentioned that she loves watching dolphins at play. But here's the thing....in "For Whom the Sweetie Belle toils", Sapphire Shores mentions that dolphins are her favorite (and lucky) animal and that "they swim with her in her dreams". It's be interesting, given hr name, if she had some kind of relation to Sea Swirl....maybe an Aunt or something?

I'm pretty sure that are plenty of fans that do care about background ponies! (of course excluding Lyra, Sweetie Drops, Octavia, etc.)

My favorites are Amethyst Star, Sea Swirl, Cloud Kicker, and White Lightning.

As a big background ponies fan, I like a lot of non-BG6 ponies: Cherry Berry, Moonlight Raven (and all the other goth ponies), Fresh Coat, Mint Condition, Blossomforth, Minty Bugglegum (I was so glad she got a line in Best Gift Ever) and many others.

There are a few obscure pones relevant to my interests.

I like Dr. Caballeron and the three goons. I've even given them names before they got them from Berrow. Not that much has changed. Her names for them are shit.

Then there's the nameless shopkeeper pony from Canterlot people call Curio. I mean, who else has dangerous artifacts just lying around their store? That time scroll, he probably sold that too. Nothing like a good honest business.

It's funny that you mentioned Cloudchaser because she is the expect character I was thinking about upon seeing this question. I have always been pretty interested in her character and I wish she got more screen time. Some others are Flitter, Cloudkicker, Thunderlane, and Blossomforth. Don't get me wrong, I like the secondary six but I really like other BG characters too.

They each seem to have their own fanbase that inspires the creation of various fan work. I like that dedication, as it adds a lot more depth to something that some may easily gloss over.

At first I rejected the zero, but that was because I simply didn't understand it. Now I do.

I care about them, even more than the background six (because I like to give other Ponies also attention than the usually used Ponies by the majority of the fandom). I often make vectors of "not often used background ponies". My favorites are the Canterlot Unicorn Girls from Canterlot Boutique, but I also love the Backgroundponies from Las pegasus or from manehattan. The mane reason are that most of them have unique and amazing designs. I also like older backgroundponies like Amethyst Star or Minuette, but when I have to chose between the older one and the newer one, I take the newer one.

I have noticed that there's a far less interest in new background ponies than before tho :mlp_huh:

Yeah, I also realised this. Maybe a reason is that a lot of the new backgroundponies are connected with a town and have usually only appearences when the town is showed and maybe in some group pictures. Or short, their appearences are very rare. And I guess the big number of new ponies with new desigs is also a reason. To much ponies to get attention with often to smal appearences.

I do!

I have several favorites and i find it very delightful whenever i see them in the background going on about their lives or reacting to certain world events :D

I don't remember names or don't know their names but for example Twisty, the balloon pony, is so cute! he's in love with Rarity and i just want to hug him! or Note Worthy was one of the first ones i put my eyes on to see where else could i spot him, along with Comet Tail (is mostly stallions as you can see :v ), also the one with the green pixeled gems as cutiemark (i just looked up his name, is Rare Find <3), he even has a voiced part in the series! I love my background ponies :)

just look at them!

In these months I've been a part of this fandom I've seen enough evidence to say the people / fandom cares for these non secondary six ponies too.

For me being in my second watch of the show at the moment  I have not completely reached that point of liking background which are not the secondary six. But this more due to time reason and there are some really interesting not too well known background ponies. As of right now I can tell you already some background ponies which has stucked out to me like Flitter or Sweet Biscuit. Give me a little more time I'm sure I have also a list of those ones too :)
