This will date me in the extreme.  Astro Boy.

I thought it was my first also, but I remembered that I watched 'Gekko Kamen' first, aired as 'Capitán Centella' in Mexico at the end of the 80's.

Hmm, I guess pokemon, but I don't want that to count. I didn't even know Pokemon wasn't American when I was a kid.

It was a friend who got me into manga, and I was really into that for a good while before I found out about anime streaming services, even then I stuck with dubs. So the first anime I watched after getting into that stuff was either Chobits, Kill Me Baby or Lucky Star. I don't know which. I have a strong feeling it was Chobits though. Loved that anime, I've been through both the manga and the show multiple times and I binge each time I go through.

I know for a fact that the first anime I watched subbed was Angel Beats. I was always making excuses to not watched subs and I preferred to go with dubs or manga if I couldn't stand the voice acting. This was the first one that I wanted to watch enough that I stopped making excuses. Didn't look back after that, though I do remember it taking a few episodes to get used to reading subs, I was fine and crying like a little kid by the end. Damn that ending is sad.

Asstroboy was created by Osamu Tezuka in the 1950's.:fluttershy:  The anime started airing on television in 1962(?).

Sure, but I only started watching it when I was in elementary school (early 90's).

I'd say, the first anime I watched being aware that it was an anime (as in japanese animation show) was Saint Seiya.

I think the very first anime I ever watched was Sailor Moon, ended up liking it a lot mainly because of the pretty colors and scenes. :P Then came the Pokemon anime (which is a terrible show in retrospect) and Dragon Ball Z. So fairly mainstream stuff, but it makes sense for the time. I also remember watching Princess Mononoke back in the day, that was my first Anime film I believe and that film disturbed me when I was young. It honestly is pretty messed up, surprised it isn't rated R.

When I was a little tiny kid I had no idea what anime was but I watched Voltron, which is a repackaged anime kind of the way Power Rangers is a repackaged Super Sentai.

Then much later I started watching Adult Swim anime, first Fullmetal Alchemist and Neon Genesis Evangelion. From then on I was hooked.
