gaming Explore v.s. playing

I'm just curious, how many of yall would rather explore the entire map than play the story

By that I mean

1. Discovering easter eggs
2. References
3. And other hidden goodies

If it is a large open world game I love exploring. If it's just another narrow, linear game with some side paths to discover stuff than that's really not my idea of exciting.

Exploring is a lot more fun plus & if I find something that I need to advance the story while I'm looking around then that's a bonus.

I like to do a little bit of both. For example, while playing Ni No Kuni, I play the story until it tells me to go to the next place on the map. Before then, I go out of my way to do every side quest I can find, catch every "familiar" possible and talk to every possible NPC. I love exploring and finding stuff a lot of people wouldn't ever see in a normal playthrough.

I actually am able to do both if that makes sense. I always explore as much as i can of the game while at the same time trying to beat it as fast as possible. After that, I would then dig into the details I might've missed before.

I love they story part of games, but I’m absolutely the type that will search every nook and cranny before I get on with it.

I always explore, as a game developer I want to find how the game works, not necessary play the story as the story is not my job.

It depends on the game, as sometimes exploring is more interesting than the story to me. Normally though, I prefer to do the story first, then explore after I'm done.

I spent 2 weeks exploring Two Worlds on Xbox 360. I opened the entire map before I did many missions so that everyrhing was ready.

Then the save file corrupted.

I don’t really enjoy playing the storylines in video games so I’d far prefer exploring. The most fun is going off on my own and doing my own thing, even if it’s relatively mundane. At least I’m following my own path and not someone else’s. Sometimes the scenery is worth it all by itself.

I like a bit of both really. Some storyline to keeps things interesting/progressing, but also being able to go off on your own and create your own adventures.

I would definitely recommend the game “Eastshade” to anyone who likes exploring and big open environments. The game is super pretty and it’s relaxing to wander around through the landscapes.

I'll usually spend more time exploring, as I tend to find that a lot more interesting than the story. Of course, I like a good story, but exploration can often be much more rewarding.

That depends on the game, really. In games with side quests (Skyrim, for example) you have to explore to find side quests, so I like to get in a little of both that way.

In Destiny and Destiny 2 I actually kind of enjoy exploring, but I don't really do that for finding easter eggs.

Fusionfall is a little different. That game is designed with all sorts of strange and unusual places that you can get to, so I always liked to just climb around on the buildings and see where I could get.

And then there are some games (looking at you, Undertale) where a lot of the easter eggs are difficult or tedious to find, so I leave that to people who care enough to put in the work.

Both tbh. Playing when I feel like getting close to finishing a game exploring when I just want to have more fun.
