Removing One of the Mane 6?

I'm not sure I would want to remove any of them. Even if it didn't effect the plot it still wouldn't be worth it and I'm not so sure the show would be worth watching anymore if even one of them was removed.

I guess this really depends on what perspective you look at the issue. If you base off of character than Fluttershy would be the one two remove, as she brings very little to the team and it takes more energy just to motivate than she saves by helping out. Not to mention whenever she isn't being useless she's an all-out bitch, I mean really, there is no middle ground.

 

If you look at it by the element each character element represents, then Twilight would be the the best choice. I mean even though magic is a main theme of the show, it really has no place when compared to the others.

They're really all top important and lovable to get rid of. I would say Rainbow Dash prior to season 3 but now she's a stable. I even like Rarity even though she is a snob and Twilight's a bit too focused on sometimes.

I would remove none of them because while I have my preferences they are important in their own ways so there really is no way you could remove one of them without it affecting the plot for the worst.

Fluttershy could be "demoted to extra" without much problem(already being the least prominent mane 6 member, and the one most often relegated to a "cheerleader" role. In terms of the more adventure style stories, she's also the only one that has to shoehorn the story just to be useful), as could Pinkie(comedic relief without that much character development- compared to the others, that is). The rest... not quite as much(though RD would suffer the most from the removal of either one).

Removing any of them without affecting the plot is impossible. All of them are required. They are the elements of harmony. They have a powerful connection that allows the most powerful magic in Equestria to emerge. Its a connection they've had since before they even met. How in the world can you get rid of one of them without severely effecting the plot and dynamic of the entire show.

To be honest even if it could be done I don't think I could decide. I like all of the characters and when matched together the have great chemestry which is a huge part of what makes the show great.

Applejack trusted Twilight first in Episode 2 and saved her life. In Season 3, she saved Spike's life and was by far the most competent member of the Mane 6 in The Cyrstal Empire. She has the responsibility of a whole family on her hands, and in the episodes where she goes AOL, she is second only to Twilight in the amount of chaos she causes, just by her not being that pillar of stability. Speaking of which, she has 3 episodes devoted entirely to her, and shares the spotlight in at least 4 more, depending on how you count. 

 

She was the only member of the Mane 6, including Twilight, to have a relevant speaking role in every episode in Season 3. 

 

While I respect that others don't like Applejack as much, to say that she is unimportant would be false. Even though I personally don't care for Fluttershy all that much, she definitely has an impact on the show and the characters around her.

First of all, how is kindness the most important element of all? You're free to hold that as an opinion, but I don't think you can prove that as a fact.

 

Applejack has zero episodes? I guess you missed all seven of these:

 

- Applebuck Season

- Look Before You Sleep

- Fall Weather Friends

- The Last Roundup

- The Super Speedy Cider Squeezy 6000

- Apple Family Reunion

- Spike At Your Service

 

Like them or not, they're ALL Applejack episodes. You can whine and moan about Derpy stealing spotlight, or how AJ co-starred in a few of those episodes, or how the Cider episode didn't "feel" like an AJ episode, but rest assured, they're all Applejack episodes.

 

Never does anything important?

 

- Saved Twilight in the second episode.

- Saved Ponyville from a stampede in Applebuck Season.

- Helped Fluttershy around the mountain in Dragonshy. Did the other ponies offer her any help? No, Applejack did. Then she went on to SAVE Twilight's hide from an avalanche which Fluttershy caused.

- She rounded up the parasprites and sent them away, which would have been all that was needed if a certain pony didn't hide some in her cottage. Who was that? Oh yeah, it was Fluttershy.

- Was the first one to go and check on Fluttershy in Feeling Pinkie Keen, showing what a caring friend she is.

- Loaned the Cutier Mark Crusaders her clubhouse, and acted as a chaperone to them on more than one occasion.

- Knew how to kick the Diamond Dogs away.

- Used her lasso to catch discorded Rainbow Dash in the Return of Harmony. Who else would have been able to catch her?

- Helped show Princess Luna how to have fun on Nightmare Night.

- Taught Rarity to be more like "apple pie" and give in to her sister. She selflessly gave up her spot in the Sisterhooves Social just so Rarity could run the race with Sweetie Belle and rekindle their sisterly love.

- Stopping the carriage bus as Mare Do Well.

- Was the only one who gathered up any useful information about the crystal ponies and the crystal fair.

- Was competent enough to guard the fake crystal heart for a good while.

- Gathered up all of the Pinkie clones so Twilight could figure out who the real Pinkie was.

- Was the only pony to show concern for Scootaloo in Sleepless. Not to mention her camping skills as a whole. She was the one starting up the fires.

- Saved Spike from Timberwolves.

 

I'm just saying, it's asinine to even think that she does nothing important. That's like saying Rainbow Dash, Rarity, Fluttershy, and Pinkie Pie do nothing important. You know, because they are all important! And that's why this thread is ridiculous. The show would go down the sink so hard if any one of these amazing characters got written off. I don't want any of them going anywhere. And seriously, what's with the AJ and Rarity hatred in this thread? I guess that's why those two are always last in merchandise if they get included at all. Some bronies just...

 

I'm not picking on you or anything, and I do respect all opinions, love and tolerance and whatnot, but what you said was just silly.

Most shows would have gone and made her into one of two things:  A Diamond Tiara like bitch, or some vapid, silly girl who's into dressup.  But no, Lauren Faust was clever enough to make her into an intelligent and hardworking *artist* that designs clothes and wants to not only live a high class life, but also share that class with others. 

 

I think Rarity is the one that made me realize that this show is not going to be like other "girly" shows.

It's sad to say, the answer is Rarity. Rarity is definately one of my favorite characters, but without affecting the plot of the show, it would have to be her. She isn't the most important character, but I still love her.
