Many people one encounters over the internet have/use online personas.

Persona :

the

mask

or façade presented to satisfy the demands of the situation or the

environment

and not representing the inner personality ofthe individual;

And if you've ever made a friend on the internet and then met them irl (in real life), you sometimes find you don't get a long with them as well because they are different in person.

I'm just wondering if anypony uses an online persona and to what extent :) ~

Not sure if it's an online Persona that to myself I sound more 'mature' online, when I'm actually pretty childish in real life XD, but most of the time I'm myself when I say something online (like for example the beginning of this post seemed to serious for me to handle irl)

Eh, not really. How I am online is pretty much the same IRL. Just that I'm much more open about being a brony online than I am in person lol.

The way I talk in real life is essentially identical to way I talk online, except with a very uncultured Australian accent. :P

haha, well irl you might be surrounded with younger and less mature people, so your brain isn't forced to think about mature situations and topics.

Although online when you are dealing with older people and more mature discussion, the mature side of your brains becomes active.

This could be wrong, but we often adapt our personalities depending on environment ~

I'm HEAPS different, on the internet, I'm like crazy and stuff, but IRL I like could go a week with out talking to anyone at all, and I have a soft voice.

Internet flare = pinkie pie

IRL flare = fluttershy.

Well many Ponies will have a "Ponysona" or Pony Persona which will be themselves Ponyfied.

While other's take it a little further with me being known on the Internet as whatever alias I'm using.

I'm currently using the alias Colon Leftbracket (or Stachioed for Steam and Xbox Live) on most other sites! (The logo in my sig is my "Stachioed Studios" which is used on anything under the Colon Leftbracket particular alias) I made Colton Manestache as a Ponysona for my Persona (Persona-ception?) because I simply wanted to be a Pony on Pony Forums!

It's not like I'm ashamed of my identity and I want to cover it up! I'm open that I'm Dylan Yocca, 17, lives in Pennsylvania, and whatnot, but I choose to have an alias or persona because it's just more interesting to me!

Colton Manestache is Colon Leftbracket ponyfied! Colon Leftbracket is Dylan Yocca personified!

Though I will say that my alias does give me a slight boost of confidence, but it's just a name and a logo really!

Well on the internet for me, I'm able to pick around with what I'm about to post to make sure what I typed doesn't sound too immature.

IRL, at least for me, it's all about responding before the conversation gets stale (which is less than a second after the other person finishes talking.) , so I end up slipping up more often and making myself look like an annoying 12 year old -.-

So to answer your question, No, I don't have an online persona, I just have more time to think about what I'm going to "say".

the comparison to ponies greatly aided my understanding of the difference ;p lol ~

Couldn't one argue that what comes first to your mind, is who you really are? ~

There are three different versions of "me" on these forums. First, there is Slendermane, the dark, malevolent, enigmatic entity. Second is Autumn Breeze, my ponified self that I use in RPs. He is close to myself, but a little braver and more heroic. Last is just me being myself. I usually am myself, unless I am playing around.

Well in that case, I should be a MLP hater instead of a Brony.

In other words, I don't agree with that statement.

The main reason I look back on my posts is to make sure they make sense and keep the readers attention. It looking like it came from an undergrown person would surely drive off most readers would'nt it?

When I'm online, I'm not afraid to unleash my inner geek.

I will speak my mind.

I will play Wii...a lot of it.

I will (definitely) watch ponies.

I won't treat anypony like trash.

I won't act like a total d-bag to pick up chicks.

And I will enjoy it all.

Also when online... I tend to be a bit more poetic (if that's the right term...) So If I randomly burst out into iambic pentameter... :P

In RL, I'm just that stupid kid with no friends or special talent; left to live on with life as a useless husk of what could have been but never was.

Really the main difference between the two, is that my online persona is what I WISH I could be in RL. (I just don't go overboard...)

haha I usually read everyone's post as long as it isn't a novel ;p haha ~

I'm not trying to attack/offend you :)

just wondering ~

In serious threads, I act like myself.

In RPs, I have a myriad of characters, and often come up with new ones for each RP.

On this particular board, I am also Evilshy, fluttershy's evil twin sister.

On the golden sun dark dawn board on GameFAQs, I'm Sveta's loving and devoted husband, also a powerful wind adept and blue/red planeswalker (magic: the gathering), and use my immense power to severly punish anyone who dares look at her the wrong way. Generally by reality warping them to a different planet and then blowing it up. then a ninetailed fox came and created an alternate universe with a slightly different sveta that he got with. It's kinda awkward when we meet at inter-universal parties and such.

Signature now 99% less edgy!

awwh,

I'm happy that you're not a d-bag and such,

but I don't think you're untalented or friendless :)

we're all your friends and everyone has a special talent :) (your own cutie mark)

~

you CAN be anypony you wish to be :)

you're internet self is just waiting to burst out into RL ~

you just need some confidence

so let me the first to tell you

that you are a likeable wonderful person :)

Here, I sound more intelligient because I have more time to process my answers.

IRL, I'm a bit nervous around certain things, and I have trouble speaking to people in a manner they would understand, because my thoughts don't make sense apparently. Also, I come off as a bit of an unintentional dick sometimes, out of bad habit.

Yeah... I think I kinda let my RL hopeless side leak into my online persona.

I have tons of friends online (which really sounds depressing if you think about it...:D) That's why I love the pony community so much. Everypony loves and tolerates you, no matter how messed up you are! :P

I haven't found my cutie mark yet... But I still have four volumes of Encyclopedia to go through. :)

I'm a Christian and all... But I've been meaning to look into Buddhism. It's not like I'm planning on converting or anything, but the way I see it, is that every religion has its strong points, and it's weaker points. If I want to adapt in some positive culture from other religions, sounds like fun!

Friends are friends no matter where they are :) . ~

I'm a Christian too, but I took a course in world religions

and found some of the teachings interesting.

I enjoy to arm myself with knowledge, and like you I had no desire to convert, but I enjoy opening my mind to new ways of thinking :) ~

Sometimes I put myself in situations which are far from desirable. If I do so online, I can walk away unscathed. But if I put myself in trouble in real life, I'll be damaged both emotionally and mentally for extremely long periods of time. Somethings, I still can't get over.

So in real-life, I am MUCH more conservative, in an attempt to avoid negativity. While online, I feel free to be myself, with no long-term worries weighing me down.

The internet is my outlet. My pain-free, peaceful outlet.

I don't know is this means I have multiple personas, though.

I know you weren't trying to attack/offend. Actually that first line was supposed to be more of a joke.
