It's not the BronyCon staff's fault, per se. If anyone is at fault, it is the Meadowlands Exposition Center for not properly maintaining the bulbs. I would only highlight that way too many people were packed into too small a space, enhacning the hazard of a fire. Con traffic was an enormous problem.

 

But this was in New Jersey, so I'm not terribly surprised by the mess.

I was sitting a few rows forward and to the right of the fire when it broke out. Took a surprisingly long time before I was able to smell it.

 

This fire caused me to lose my best chance at obtaining autographs.

I got a little more than half-way through a massive line for Tara before a security lady told us she had to catch a plane. It took so long to get that far...

When they first began clearing the lines, we just kept our heads low and pretended we didn't hear the con staff. It wasn't until they announced an evacuation that we took our leave. I definitely know that feel, bro.

This was my first BronyCon, so I am not intimately familiar with the previous venues. As I understood it, those venues were far smaller and were only rented for an afternoon. The BronyCon prior to this one hosted about 800 attendees; this one had 4,000. It was an enormous jump. The previous BronyCons were also held in New York City proper (Manhattan).

I love the ladders. It's like, somebody got one, and was like "hey, it's not high enough!" and some other guy was came up and said "don't worry, I have a taller one!" and set it up, and then realized it was only like 2 feet taller, so everybody just kinda went "oh, well... hmm..." and walked away.

 

What were they going to do with the ladders anyway? Get a closer look at the fire? I mean, yeah the obvious thing would be to use a fire extinguisher, but I never saw anybody getting one...
